I have the P7100. I bought it brand new in 2012 and it's still going strong. Same lens and sensor as the 7000. I find the tilt out lcd very handy. I often use it like a waist level finder.
I don't find noise to be an issue on older CCD cameras anymore now Lightroom has its ridiculously good AI denoiser, as long as I shoot in RAW. It can even get eerily clean while staying sharp, which is a bit too much, but somewhere between 30 and 40 seems to be the sweet spot. Gives older cameras a bit more flexibility than having to permanently stick to base ISO
I recently bought the p7800 because i didnt find the p7100. I really want the CCD over CMOS but, the p7800 seems to be "better" (sorry my bad english).

Yep, got one of these from Japan, complete with immaculate black leather fitted case. I use the half case and only keep the camera in the full case. Super cool, and a great camera.
Brilliant overview of the Nikon p7000. Lovely results and such a great looking camera! Love that style of grab and run cameras. Thanks for sharing and providing great content.
My elder daughter passed hers on to her little girl (7) recently, and she has been having fun with it. I have just moved into MFT, so I am very camera focussed just now, and I had been thinking that the Nikon is a great camera for your kind of usage, which is similar to hers. I think the threaded ring is a great idea -- in fact, I think that any camera with a range of controls (shooting mode, exposure commpensation etc and RAW) should have a filter ring as a matter of course. My first couple of digital cameras had them and I had some Nikon 1s which, of course, had them on the interchangeable lenses. I bought my first Nikon 1 after my DSLR went down while I was on an overseas holiday, so I wasn't rushing into lens purchases when I got home, and made do with a screw on 2x converter for a couple of months, giving me the standard 28-80 (equiv) range, plus an extension up to 160 mm, and got quite acceptable photos. I'll try to get my granddaughter out on a photography day soon.
I was looking for a small camera for daily use, but not had enough money. My friend, who is a pro photographer, recommended me to look for this camera. In my region it costs around $70-100 in good condition, but even this was too expensive for me to buy it. And then he sends me a link to this camera but only $20 because lens wasn't working. I brought it and got it just few hours ago from post. It looks much smaller than i thought (before it i owned only d3000), yesterday i'll meet my friend to give him this camera for repair, because he knows how to fix it. Looking forward to get more shots of my city and nature of my country.
@@snappiness so, many days of repairing appeared few sad news: camera kinda works, but buttons and lenses mechanism broken. Very nice overview of the camera, thank you. I like the build quality of this series of old Nikon cameras, they feel very well made, have some quality feel. My favorite compact camera that I still regularly use is the Olympus XZ2. It features a fast zoom lens, very good optical stabilization and can take an electronic viewfinder.
Nice video and excellent photos! I picked up a P7000 because of this video. I'm very happy with the colors and feel of the camera. It makes for a nice every day camera. Firmware v1.2 from Nikon gives the camera more than decent auto focus. RAW write times are still on the slow side, but not bothersome to me.
Thanks for the video. I've been using the P7000 on overseas vacations for the last 13 years. I like taking pictures of my wife, and she taking pictures of me at various places around the world, And I like taking pictures of friends at dinners at night. The P7000 is superior by far to my Nikon A900 and Sony RX100 MkIV because unlike them, it has a decent internal flash - essential for fill-flash when my wife or I are back-lit, or at night. I did buy a sceond P7000, but unfortunately, the internal battery on both cameras died, and repair cost was quoted at A$175 (US$114) each. So I went and bought a P7800 for that amount. But I still use the cameras, despite the nuisance of having to enter the date and settings whenever I charge the battery. Despite having used the P7000 for so long, until I saw your video, I was unaware that it had an internal ND filter! Not sure how that escaped my attention, but thanks for letting me know. Regards.
My never leave home without camera is the Panasonic ZS100 (well it will be again when I am done with my 2024 project of carrying a different camera every week) It's the perfect Jack of All Master of none camera that can do a bit of everything in a small pocket able package. On the flip side it doesn't excel at anything. The 10x zoom on the ZS100 is a nice range but can come up short at times. It's either this or the Olympus XZ-1 if I want something with the CCD more retro feel.
I am looking for a compact camera, but this is probly not the camera for me, but still enjoyable to watch yr video cos of the charming and beautiful images. Thks.
These images look great and the cam's industrial design looks like it could have been made yesterday by Fuji. A new version with fast responses would be awesome.
What a cool little camera. I always loved Nikon's digital offerings, from their point n shoots to the bridges. And it even has a viewfinder! I just wish it wasn't so dang pricey. That goes for nigh every 2010s digital camera, why are they so expensive on the used market anyway? Oh and great photos btw. It really is the photographer that makes the photo, God knows what I'd do with a 10mp small sensor 😅
Picked one up at a great price in great condition and I have to agree with you. It is a really nice little camera. What thumb rest do you have on it and where did you get it? I have big hands and it looks like a nice addition. I'm really a Pentax guy but this little Nikon is really sweet.
I got an old Canon G10 that is basically the equivalent to the Nikon you’re reviewing. Unfortunately mine has been heavily used and has a lot of dust inside the lens which shows up in the sky!
The Canon G cameras up to the G7 were a little bricklike (but still, take good photos in good light), but the G7 introduced a COOL look that continued right 'til the end of the G line. I didn't know until this video that Nikon had a very similar-looking offering. Looks like there was some design borrowing by one side or the other.
Heyo!! First want to thank you for introducing me to this camera found one on eBay for $70!! And loving it so far. So I did find the Filter Ring on Aliexpress where did you get the ND filters though?!
Bought the P7000 after seeing your reel on instagram and have taken it everywhere since. Now “upgraded” to the p7100 since the other had some issues. So much fun for €50 ❤️
I briedly acquired a Nikon P5000, and what immediately leapt out at me, like the P7000 here, was how slow it was in every way. I got rid as soon as I could.
lot of cool features I was using a Canon PowerShot S120 then & loved it. I still carry it for its compact size. It was the low light mini monster of its day of compacts. But I always like and use Nikon for my big stuff.
I have the P7100. Same body, sensor & lens as the P7000 but with a tilt display, faster buffer & shooting times, and an extra control dial. Unfortunately the autofocus is about the same as the P7000. It's iffy even for video, and will eventually lose focus on a static subject. Bare in mind there are some things you should be aware of with both the P7000 & P7100. The lens covers can start to stick snd won't open entirely, and the LCD display can develop dead lines of pixels from heat (but eventually they will recover). As with any nikon camera I've ever used, they can freeze at any moment so keep that in mind and reinsert the battery to restore normal operation.
Interesting issues that can happen - mine already does have a semi-sticky lens cover (not all the time). The tilt screen on the 7100 is a worthy upgrade! That would be useful.
@@snappiness My P7100 thankfully does not have a sticky Lens cover, although I did get it hardly used with the original box. It did develop dead pixels on the LCD display but that happened when I was in 90°+ desert heat, and as I learned it did eventually fully recover over the span of a couple weeks when I returned home in the PNW. The tilt display is an awesome feature. You can shoot at waist level or over your head to get the composition you want.
I've had that camera for 10 years, bringing it to my hikes, but the last few years I seldom use it because I find it too heavy and a hassle to shoot while climbing so I bought a lightweight action camera Insta360 go3 just weeks ago. Thinking I might finally retire it, I came across this video. Maybe I didn't really appreciate it because I am no photographer and didn't realize its power since I never really dabbled into it other than put it into auto picture and video mode.
@@snappiness So far, a perfect action cam for an introvert with extroverted activities. Very subtle but crafty. Less rugged than the other action cameras but still fitting for the outdoors.
Based on Snap's previous short about this camera, I picked one up from eBay, and I love it. The P7000 has a great feel to it. Mine doesn't have the thumb grip, unfortunately.
I wonder if at some stage, you could possibly do a post on the wonderful and unusual Fujifilm x-S1 bridge camera. I would be most interested to hear your views on this anomaly in the Fuji x series lineup. They are still reasonably priced and provide excellent value for money in my opinion. Even though the X-S1 came out in 2012, it has all the ingredients for classic status. The manual zoom function is a real plus and harkens back to another age.
great review, thanks. I have a LX1, I love the pictures that it takes, but I find it almost unusable. The LCD is tiny and it's too slow for me. This Nikon sounds very slow, too, but how about the lcd sensor? Any advice on a similar sized, "cheap" cameras a little more responsive?
If you liked the P7000 then you should try the Canon G-series which Nikon "copied" with the P7000 - with some improvements but also some disadvantages. I liked the G11/G12 a lot with it's adjustable LCD. It also had a 10MP CCD sensor, but you could also take a look at the newer G15 or G16 if you're OK with CMOS sensors.
Hi there, I'm a photographer working in South Korea. I’m currently using a Nikon P7100 and a Canon G10, both of which I’m really drawn to because they're As I mentioned earlier, I'm a commercial photographer, and I’d like to use these cameras for my commercial work. Recently, I tried doing a flash sync test because I wanted to use studio flashes with Godox triggers (X2T, X3) and a couple of universal triggers. Surprisingly, the G10 worked just fine, but the P7100 just wouldn’t sync I thought my P7100 might be faulty, so I bought another one of the same model. Now I have two P7100s, but strangely, the new one works perfectly fine with the flash sync! So, I’m really curious-when you use external triggers or speedlights, do you have any issues with the sync not working, like I did? (Oh, and by the way, I can use optical sync with the built-in flash, but I really don’t want to do that. I only want to rely on triggers for my studio lighting setup.) I’m not trying to push too hard to test something that might not be relevant if you don’t normally use triggers or speedlights. I’m just asking out of curiosity because, with it being such an old model and not widely used, I couldn’t find much information about it. I even contacted the Nikon service center in Korea, but they didn’t really have a helpful response and were quite skeptical about the triggers working with the P7100. Thanks so much for reading this, and I really appreciate any insight you might have! I hope only good things come your way, and thanks again for the wonderful conversations and advice!
Those are absolute gorgeous photos. CCD was such a great thing ... until you needed a bit more high ISO ... Still fondly using my Epson R-D1s from time to time ... but yeah, high ISO is useless
"I never leave home without this camera" - neither do I. I've been biking/hiking with the P7000 since the camera was released in 2010. I always shoot RAW and edit in ON1 Photo Raw, which cleans up the image nicely with NoNoise AI. I recently bought a second P7000 from a photographer friend for $50, which I "loaned" to my daughter for a hiking trip in the Canadian Rockies. She loves the colours, and the zoom gives her extended range over her iPhone. The macro setting is great for closeup work.
Congrats on 30k subs! I'd love to try this camera out even though it seems to be a near duplicate of the Canon PowerShot G series - I have the G11 and love it and "Canon G11" is the main search term driving views to my channel. Haha. Biggest difference I can tell between the cameras is the screen - Canon opted for the smaller flip-out screen. But this camera is definitely on my list for one to showcase on the channel (and most likely keep in my growing collection).
Thank you! And I'm subscribed to your channel as well. Happy to have more people interested in this stuff publishing content. I'll try the G series at some point, I've had friends offer to lend me theirs. I'm interested which is the better camera. But without a doubt this one is good!
It was a high end piece of kit and still is. The build is excellent and the lens and colours are superb. Loads of features, raw images and a hot shoe. I think the viewfinder is useful. It also ties in with the camera's classic feel and look. There were packed sensors in 2010. Nikon decided to give it a modest pixel count and to break from the absurd pixel chasing which was about at the time..
I like these as a budget option for pocket camera or street photos. But, seems a little pricey for the category? A quick check showed prices close to $200. Quite a few other comparable options in different brands closer to $100
I looked up the prise history, that was a cheap camera, ended up being dirt cheap. But I've never seen these used in Norway and no longer in retailer stock. But better than a smartphone camera. For the price it's not bad. Very compact indeed.
I bought a really beaten up p7000 for € 50,- it has two things that bug me. First the internal battery is empty, so everytime you take the battery out it looses all settings and second the not completely opening lens cover ... but the pictures are great and i always carry it with me in my bag
If you want a cheap but very fun camera, try the Canon SX40. SOOC JPEGs are...saturated but fun/sexy. Larger than life is a polite way to put it. Depth of field is excellent if you know where to put yourself (easier/more forgiving than you'd think). I recently pulled mine apart to remove the IR filter. Be warned, it doesn't have a proper filter thread so IR pass filters require some creative mounting. CHDK is your friend.
It's a bit like the Canon G16 .. I love my G16, but did have my eye on the Nikon A, and just because Mattias Burling made it sound so good ... I have resisted so far. I do think my GAS problem has gotten worse than @one month two cameras.
a camera i recomend for you that shoots incredible photos for the price is the sister of ricoh gr the ricoh caplio gx100 or 200 and the funky accesories with it like lenbs and step up yoom packed with features and for the price is a steal also its made in japan
can u do a video review about lumix lx3? Its a pretty little camera with a Leica Lens, I bought mine for 50$. I think its very interesting to know what you think about. Great video btw ❤
Man.. This video might be an answer for me.. I've been thinking about what camera should i get to documenting my journey on bicycle.. Anyway, do u have any suggestions on how u carry ur camera on bicycle?
I have a top tube bag that I'm enjoying. You can buy them to attach to any frame (just get the strap kind not the bolt kind). Put some padding at the bottom so if you run over bumps the camera isn't smacking the top tube. I've also used a peak design capture clip for small cameras on the strap of my water bladder bag. Works really nicely for quick access on small cameras. Got large cameras I use and osprey raptor bag. The thing about a bike specific backpack is that it's just super comfy and secure, even when I'm mountain biking. But for road biking you wouldn't need something so intense.
You are one of the few creators that shows an abundance of pictures from each camera you test.

Picked one up at a great price in great condition and I have to agree with you. It is a really nice little camera. What thumb rest do you have on it and where did you get it? I have big hands and it looks like a nice addition. I'm really a Pentax guy but this little Nikon is really sweet.
I have a Canon g11 and g16. These cameras are such powerhouses.
Awesome. I want to try a Canon G series more after trying this camera.
@@snappiness they’re a lot a like. Best part is the write speeds of the later models.
So much fun for €50 ❤️
I haven't looked into what the later models bring to the table, but I imagine they're good as well!
Were you using it with the 1.2 firmware? I'm considering this camera but this slow workflow seems like a bummer to me:(
Great review of the camera. Great everyday carry, compact camera that you can easily bring it with you.
I love pocket cameras for that reason :)
This camera looks EXTREMELY similar to a Fujifilm X-Pro3!!!
I used to have one. I wish i never sold it. I loved it dearly.
I briedly acquired a Nikon P5000, and what immediately leapt out at me, like the P7000 here, was how slow it was in every way. I got rid as soon as I could.
It takes photographs and that's about all a camera needs to do.
Beautiful photos 👌🏽
Lovely video and gorgeous shots!! Thank you!!
Love how you can add a polarizer on such a compact camera!
It's a great little unlock to add more functionality :)
Those jpegs looks AWESOME
For my EX1 I just slap on some colour noise removal and it looks great, almost like film grain
Awesome video and really cool camera! Was pleased to see that thumb grip on there :D Used the same thing on my Canon G1X while I had it.
lot of cool features I was using a Canon PowerShot S120 then & loved it. I still carry it for its compact size. It was the low light mini monster of its day of compacts. But I always like and use Nikon for my big stuff.
You've inspired me, bidding on a few P7000 & 7100 on Buyee now! haha
I do enjoy action cameras for quick videos. I have the Go 2 and really love it. How's the Go 3?
@@snappiness So far, a perfect action cam for an introvert with extroverted activities. Very subtle but crafty. Less rugged than the other action cameras but still fitting for the outdoors.
Based on Snap's previous short about this camera, I picked one up from eBay, and I love it. The P7000 has a great feel to it. Mine doesn't have the thumb grip, unfortunately.
Awesome stuff, glad you're enjoying it too
for how much? I got some deals in my local store but still I want to know what exact price this thing worth
I always leave home without that camera.
I keep a nikon1 V3 with me all the time. Love to mount F glass on it.
That's super cool. What a neat system
That looks great. I am currently shooting with the older Fuji bridge camera, the S200EXR and enjoying it.
I need a bag like that on my bike for compact cameras!
Yeah it's great! It's a top tube bag, you can Google that and come up with a bunch. Get the Velcro kind if you bike doesn't have top tube mounts.
I’ve been wanting to pick up this camera to compare to my Fuji X10. I like more of the physical dial control on the Nikon
this is one of the best Nikon Coolpix cameras out there, the 7100 is a bit better even, for example because of it's tilting lcd screen 🙂
Fantastic, I have one at home bought in 2011❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
great review, thanks. I have a LX1, I love the pictures that it takes, but I find it almost unusable. The LCD is tiny and it's too slow for me. This Nikon sounds very slow, too, but how about the lcd sensor? Any advice on a similar sized, "cheap" cameras a little more responsive?
I really like the Nikon P7000. I alternate between it and the Canon G10 on a regular basis.
If you liked the P7000 then you should try the Canon G-series which Nikon "copied" with the P7000 - with some improvements but also some disadvantages. I liked the G11/G12 a lot with it's adjustable LCD. It also had a 10MP CCD sensor, but you could also take a look at the newer G15 or G16 if you're OK with CMOS sensors.
my thoughts too, my canon G10 looks almost the same ! all manual knobs and features... looks like a copy of the G series idd
Whenever Nikon makes something, there's likely someone else with a similar product prior to Nikon.
Nikon have introduced their share of unique products, but not many compact models except for the Coolpix 9xx-series
Hi there, I'm a photographer working in South Korea. I’m currently using a Nikon P7100 and a Canon G10, both of which I’m really drawn to because they're
As I mentioned earlier, I'm a commercial photographer, and I’d like to use these cameras for my commercial work. Recently, I tried doing a flash sync test because I wanted to use studio flashes with Godox triggers (X2T, X3) and a couple of universal triggers. Surprisingly, the G10 worked just fine, but the P7100 just wouldn’t sync
I thought my P7100 might be faulty, so I bought another one of the same model.
I only want to rely on triggers for my studio lighting setup.)
I’m not trying to push too hard to test something that might not be relevant if you don’t normally use triggers or speedlights.
What are you setting on this?
I have just bought it for 57 usd 😀 Thanks to you.
I really like your videos. I wish you would review a modern compact like Canon G5 X Mark II. Not Sony RX100 series tho.
Those are absolute gorgeous photos. CCD was such a great thing ... until you needed a bit more high ISO ... Still fondly using my Epson R-D1s from time to time ... but yeah, high ISO is useless
You have an Epson R-D1s!! What a camera. Keep using it :)
@@snappiness oh I will!
Are you interested in trying the Panasonic DMC-FZ10? From 2003, 4/3 sensor, and built in Leica lens
Fantastic!
@@snappiness Appreciate you subscribing! 🙌
OK got myself one. Was "lightly used" but turned out to be "new" 😁
I like these as a budget option for pocket camera or street photos. But, seems a little pricey for the category? A quick check showed prices close to $200. Quite a few other comparable options in different brands closer to $100
That's a good thing to look out for then, I'm not up-to-date with the prices on all the competitors from the era.
Ah yes, happens to me too. Both.
Thanks for the tip! I've used CHDK before on other Canons. Would be fun to do it again.
My edc is my grd from Ricoh! Love it
I want to get into old Ricohs :) (just picked up a cheap gx200 to play with)
Love P7000 coolpix
Cool camera. Do you have any experience using Samsung EX2F?
I don't. I really enjoyed the EX1 though.
What are the settings? and how do you edit the photos?
It's a bit like the Canon G16 .. I love my G16, but did have my eye on the Nikon A, and just because Mattias Burling made it sound so good ... I have resisted so far. I do think my GAS problem has gotten worse than @one month two cameras.
One thing is missing on it is the APS-C
a camera i recomend for you that shoots incredible photos for the price is the sister of ricoh gr the ricoh caplio gx100 or 200 and the funky accesories with it like lenbs and step up yoom packed with features and for the price is a steal also its made in japan
I just picked up a GX200! Great minds think alike ;)
can u do a video review about lumix lx3? Its a pretty little camera with a Leica Lens, I bought mine for 50$. I think its very interesting to know what you think about. Great video btw ❤
Maybe one day! We'll see. :)
