I’ve got a Nikon 995 in 2001. I really enjoyed using it and got some great photos. It retired when I got my first DSLR, a D200, but I held on to it and continued to use it when not wanting to carry a DSLR. The downside is it’s shutter lag and slow write times CF cards. As a result it’s best suited to static and slow moving subjects.
Great camera, own three of them, one converted to infrared and made some of my favorite IR images ever, better than from my Fuji IS1. I guess I’ll have to dig them out from storage and use them again. Thanks for review.
I once found 5 at one time at a thrift store in a really rural area. Sadly none of them worked. I bought 3 out of the 5. It seems like the LCD screen fails over time. Love your channel and reviews. Seriously awesome stuff!
Legend 💪 there’s something about this old tech, it was so outlandish and memorable. Unfortunately now everything has become conformist - every camera looks like the next one… cars have become that way too… but I’m sure it will swing the other way in the future 🤙

I had a 950 and loved it to bits, took so many sharp flower macros with it… and then for some reason decided I need a Real Camera, and was never satisfied with anything else due to the the quality vs weight, battery, giant lens for macro etc trade offs for the next 10 years. The CoolPix 9xx series punched so far above their weight can’t wait to see what you do next!
just bought one from thift market. had no idea what it was but it felt premium so i bit the bullet (3€ lol) feels really solid and i like how it operates! feels like a future classic i’m also really impressed that it can accept 2CR5 even when it has a proprietary lithium battery!
I have the coolpix 990, and for about two weeks now I have been buying and returning compact flash cards because they are either too new or too big, do you recommend any brands to buy for the camera?
I'm sure you're the only guy on the 'Tube making reviews of these early digital cameras.....there may be a reason for that 🤔.....but now I want one 👍 Early digital is kinda like the early years of carbon fibre bicycle design, it was a brave new world where anything was possible.... designers went a bit nuts, but damn it was fun !
I couldn’t agree more! That’s the whole point is that their fun and gives you a glimpse into a time when a technology was new and experimental 👌 love the reference to early carbon bike frame, I completely agree 🙏
hey! i dont know if anyone will ever find my comment, but i have this camera. it's so nice, but now it won't turn on? i have two extra batteries and tried them (they're charged) but it still won't turn on? anyone know what could be wring with my camera?

Trying again: I was given a Coolpix 995 was given to me in 2006 together with a bunch of point & shoot film cameras, as an extra thank-you from a photographer for translating some stuff for him. But it came without battery and charger. I forgot about it and it stayed in a box for several years. Lately I found it again while looking for a completely different thing. So I decided to get a couple of batteries and a charger off eBay, and I managed to revive it. I'm surprised by the results from this 20-year-old camera, and also its macro performance is still respectable. Cheers! Rick
