Have heard from my dad. Anshuman Gaekwad was one of the most gutsy players ever to play the game.
Privileged to have played with Anshuman Gaekwad at Goa for the All- India Arlem Trophy in 1984..Was unlucky not to get his Wicket, a missed chance by Shivlal Yadav..I had represented Combined Syndicate Bank ..We had players like VijayKrishna, AV Jayprakash, K Sainath , Sadanand Vishwanath, Shivlal Yadav , Jugal Kishore, Chamundeshwaranath. They had GR Vishwanth, Balwinder Singh Sandhu , Sharad Pednekar and Namdev Phadev
Great to know that sir, with all due respect how was AV jayaprakash as a player? Coz when he started his cricket academy it was very difficult for him to command respect, and the reason we were told was he was never a good enough player.
@hellsagent25 AV Jayprakash was a good All- Rounder and represented his State ( Karnataka) and South Zone as well..He was a Medium Pacer and opening bat as well ..Later on he became an Umpire and officiated in the match when Kumble took all 10 wickets against Pakistan...Some decisions were a bit controversial..I am not sure about his personal life , as I have migrated to Melbourne, Australia

Who is the big name player who disappeared and Arun lal , ravi shastri fronted up ? This is a typically dodgy comment without basis from this petty man Manjrekar. Is he referring to Gavaskar because He was the only big name player at the top of the indian batting order then ? If so its a ridiculous statement as Gavaskar as any Fast bowler of that era would say was the greatest opening batsman and he played without a helmet and his courage was unparalleled. Compare that courage to this nobody who thinks he is an expert 😂 but ran away from patrick Patterson in his debut series . Anyone who talks about Gaekwad opening for India , cannot not talk about Gavaskar as Anshu played 49 of his 50 test innings with Sunny at the other end . However Dumbrekar avoided mentioning Sunny but took the names of Arun lal and Shastri 🙃. Clearly dumbrekar has an axe to grind with sunny . Espn cricinfo must be crazy to employ a petty clown like dumbrekar as an "expert"
