- After having watched his 2018 performance of this timeless Scott Joplin piece on RUclips about a million times, I was fortunate to have the front row seat for this one in Chattanooga on Feb.3, 2023. What a master! You have to come see him play.
Most underrated guitarist of all time
I live in the UK and I consider my-self very lucky because I have seen him play on six occasions. Talk about hard work and dedication.
I know he has played since early childhood, but to me, this level of skill and consistency is still astonishing.
You are very lucky indeed. I will continue to monitor his schedule and will try to see as many as I can.
He makes it look effortless. What a fantastic player.
Hands down the greatest guitar player on the planet
I certainly have never seen a better one.
@Heikki Pankki As a big fan of Richard, you're right. Apples and oranges
To change chord like that is incredible, have seen Richard play live and he’s an amazing guitarist while being very modest..
So tommy emmanuel is a lamppost?
This is a good example of what can be done with a guitar in the right hands. I'd never heard this piece on the guitar. Really nice. I also like how he didn't put in a lot of embellishments since ragtime music is typically played "note for note" as written.
Great point!
He does play this and other Joplin pieces as "note for note" as humanly possible with the guitar. Even from the way he talks about each piece of his repertoire, you can tell how much respect he has for the composers.
Chet Atkins does a pretty good version too
@@davidwake6886 Chet Atkins version of everything was first rate. Stevie Ray Vaughan even played a short Chet Atkins riff buried in one of his songs to honor him.
I was able to see him play last year. And was fortunate enough to chat with him. Incredible musician, great guy too, very personable and generous. I will remember it always.❤
100%. Funny, down to earth guy, sells his own merch at intermission and signs anything you want him to.
Very nice Mr. Richard. I am from Brasil and I love your performances. Very well executed. Thank you so much
Richard Smith should be a household name! I was lucky to spend 4 or 5 days with this guy at one of Tommy Emmanuel's guitar camps a few years back (along with Frank Vignola, Vinny Raniolo and John Knowles CGP). A fabulous experience and watching Richard play individually and in combinations with the other world class players there, was the musical highlight of my life.
Wow, I can only imagine what a thrill that was. What a great group of guys!
The finest rendition of The Entertainer on guitar, hands down.
absolutely beautiful! sounds like a full band.
My late son could play this on guitar and piano when he was 11.My wife and I were amazed. He would never play being watched. We had to sneak up to door and listen.
Magnifique. I love Scott Joplin's music. When I was young I played some guitar fingerstyle.....but was never able ( not good enough) to do music from this great musician. What a pleasure it is to listen to your fine performance. Bravo: Big like.
It wasn't even intended to be a guitar piece, that's what makes these arrangements and performances even more mind-blowing. I can play The Entertainer on my piano, but Richard's play sounds a million times better.
The man is astounding!
This is what 100K+ hours of practice paired with amazing talent and love can produce
@@PaulStrizhevsky A musical savant!
Cantante napoletano
Now that's some great talent!
He makes the guitar talk, wonderful. When I took up guitar many many many years ago I started with finger stile, wish I had persevered now !!!
Thankfully I don't even dabble with guitar, so I'll never know the depth of the abyss between Richard and myself 😆
beautiful
Simply wonderful!!!
amazing!
Extremely gifted 💯❤️😎
Great ❤
Unglaublich! Bravo, Maestro!
Wow..!!!
I know, right?
A monster !
Lovley.
Desde Bogotá Colombia admirando su espectacular talento mil felicitaciones
Bravissimo. I've a guitar signed by Richard, Tommy, Muriel Anderson, Tom Bresh and Doyle.
Congratulations from France.
Very nice!
Bravo !! Muy bien interpretado !!!
Phenomenal ability!
I’ve always loved this version of this song. Thank you for uploading!
Thanks for watching, very glad so many people are enjoying it.
Great!
Jaw Jopling!
Yikes! Brilliant!
令人敬佩的演奏家😊😊😊
I've heard him play it better with a lot less buzz. Way huge respect regardless, amazing rendition of a piano piece played on guitar.
No doubt. I could listen to him perform it endlessly, noticing subtle differences. You can find at least a half dozen of these recordings on RUclips.
Show demais 🇧🇷👌👌
I like you very much!
you nice play !!!!
nice play !!!!!
Amo esa melodía ❤️
You probably know it was written for the piano, right? :) Makes it all the more incredible to hear it sound this good on Richard's guitar.
Chet Atkins version and this One are wonderful 🙏

Legend playing guv
👍👍
What is it called when you play the bass and melody simultaniously on guitar?
There is some jokes from his previous video comment.. Got me everytime.. "I can't play like him but I look like him"
"he made me give up playing guitar!"😅
"Now Richard is going to play something hard!"
I love it! Even better, I think, than Chet Adkins version.
I would agree. Richard's is more technically advanced, and the arrangement is a definite step up from how Chet played it.
@@PaulStrizhevsky Richard’s version reminds me of the original music, in The Sting by Joplin
¡Impresionante, Richard!
Me atrevo a sugerirte esta otra versión de la pieza con arreglos de la propia artista por si acaso no la conoces, se trata de Paola Hermosín:

Es una versión bastante diferente a la tuya, pero también muy, muy buena.
Gracias.
Impressive Richard!
I dare to suggest this other version of the piece with arrangements by the artist herself in case you don't know her, it's about Paola Hermosín:
ruclips.net/video/oJiT5N79KBQ/видео.html
It's quite a different version than yours, but also very, very good.
Thank you.
Always thought Leo wijnkamp jr arranged this tune for the guitar; any credits?
I wish I knew for sure. Most of Richard's arrangements of famous pieces are done by him, so I don't know if this is any different.
Does anyone have a tab by chance?
Lol
yeeheii
Couldn't contain myself 😆
Frankly... I'm struggling to see what Lineker has supposedly done wrong.
He made an observerion that was true when Eric Blair made note of it under his pseudonym of George Orwell....
How did he do that?
If only I knew, I'd be playing it just as well
Top draw.
Oh dear, I think it should have been "top drawer". What I meant was that's shit hot mate, perfect playing.
Absolutely outstanding but he is not Chet Atkins
I would say he is even more advanced from the technical standpoint. Things like charisma and likeability are highly subjective.
His other videonway better. This one sounds seems off and tempo sounds a tad too fast.
He spent all his guitar money on CHICKEN NUGGETS
Sounds better on the piano.
Not when I play it. 😆 Richard's performance sounds very much like the piece was meant for guitar.
But yeah, piano was absolutely Joplin's intended instrument for this piece.
Браво!!!!!!
