The Stars and Stripes Forever march by John Philip Sousa performed by the phenomenal thumb-picking guitarist Richard Smith in Chattanooga, TN on Feb.3, 2023
I've seen a few great players play this but amazed at Guy Van Dueser for hearing this played by a marching band and thinking, hey, I can play this on guitar. Truly awesome what the human brain can do.
That's so great! I'm also looking forward to seeing him with Tommy Emmanuel in the summer, he told me they have a couple of dates planned in my city. 🥳
@@PaulStrizhevsky , oh yessir - you'll be on guitar OVERLOAD!!! I saw TE with Gareth back in Jan. & 😮!! He had a younger guy named Gareth Pearson with him. I was pretty skeptical; Richard is THE MAN, but yeah. He was AMAZING, & come to find out, "the Welsh Tornado" as he's appropriately known by folks in the know, is super good friends with Sir Richard - so it's a WIN-WIN to me!! But yessir, it's hard for me to believe more people don't know how AMAZING these guys are, & what a LEGACY OF THUMB-PICKING" they display in EVERY SONG they perform... oh well, WE DO!!!!! 🤟🥰🤟 Brooks Robertson... THAT GUY is right up there with 'em!!! Got the pleasure of seeing him perform in Little Rock, & 😮!!! ALL these HOSSES make me just wanna burn my guitar!! 🔥 🤣!!!!
Well done, Richard. One of just a few guitarists who can play this piece solo on guitar as cleanly and precisely as the versions by either Guy Van Duser or Chet Atkins. Wonder how many hours Richard spent slaving away practicing to be able to play it?
Great rendition!!! Richard is using the same amp I use, a 30 watt Acoustic. I paid $144 for mine about 7 or 8 years ago as a clearance item at GC. A great sounding amp and not expensive at all.
The clarity of every note is pretty astonishing even for someone who doesn't play guitar and can't truly appreciate the technical difficulty of these pieces
@@PaulStrizhevsky .. He performed with 2 other guitarists, Joscho Stephan and Rory Hoffman. Unfortunately he didn't play the Entertainer. But he said he will do solo soon. He let me take a picture with him though :).
I believe this video is overdubbed at least 5 times to get the piccolos, sousaphones, trumpets, trombones and drums all in. I mean, come on, you don’t really believe that’s just 10 fingers in real time, do you?
Ça, c’est vrai, mais il faut se rappeler que cela n’a pas été enregistré dans les conditions idéales d’un studio. La meilleure performance de cette pièce est toujours celle de Guy Van Duser, l’arrangeur original."
Even did the piccolo solo, Richard always amazes me
Guy van Duser, Forever!!!!
WOW! WOW!! WOW!!! Amazing picking - thank you for sharing Richard.

Gotta love Richard Smith!
An amazing guitar wizard for sure.👍👍
Smiling at the first note, grinning all through! Wishing I could join in
Amazing sound.. perfect performance. This guy should be more famous.
He absolutely should!
True, but he's as famous as a fingerstyle guitarist can get. Those of us in this genre are in awe of him.
Great playing Richard. You're in a league of your own.
Incredible!
So happy that he is coming to MY TOWN in a couple months... simply the BEST there is!!!! 🤟
That's so great!

BRAVO Richard. You can play anything.
Just amazing!
FANTASTIC!!!
I played this in Marching Band,..still know my part, too..this is sweet.
Untouchable!
Heard this with Chet first, Guy second, and you now. What a great trio of performances.

Wow… amazing…
Bravo!

👍👏👏👏👏👏
"See if I can get thru it"...! If anyone can do it, it's Richard Smith.

I enjoyed his concert tonight in Mission Viejo, California. Indeed, Richard is the finger style genius.
He absolutely is! Did he play this piece or The Entertainer at your concert?

Not so clean, but sounding SO GREAT. It's phenomenal. He stated he just picked it up and blasted right of the mind into audience!
Richard. Would you please play the combination of ,the battle hyme of the republis and Dixie
Truly amazing it looks impossible but you make it look so easy .
Onether great

Haha, I probably wouldn't if I wasn't there right in the front row to see it.
Seen him play it all live.. only a few people can pull this off
The piccolo parts rule
Super picker 101
И это всё из семи нот?...
И бесконечного множества гармоник?....
It's like there's an entire band playing! But it's just one 6-string guitar.
Зажигай Рича, задорный у тебя композиции , могу подъиграть на ложка.
Richard Smith joue très bien mais le jeu et le son sur ce morceau de Chet Atkins étaient vraiment meilleur.

like Guy Van Duser arrangement isn't hard enough---you add a couple of new twists.
Amazing, but he needs to care for his health better or else he won't be able to be amazing for much longer.
