For the people that don't get it: he's comparing being on a plane to zooming out of our everyday lives and looking at the bigger picture. The part where he says "no plane has ever crashed from turbulence" is reference to the fact that sometimes life gets hard, we just give in too soon to see our troubles end. When he says that on the ground he hardly ever thinks of even flying, he means he is so absorbed in his daily routine that the doesn't stop to think about his life as a whole.
Original Rakesh A lot of people said they don’t get it so he’s explaining it. What in the world did he say that makes him a ”boomer”? Do you not like his explanation?
Nosh The Unicorn he means that a lot of people quit things because things get difficult /turbulent and if only they knew that they would get past it then they wouldn't quit
What do u get from this? For me it's talking about opportunities re-presenting themselves, but I don't think that's the case, because they often don't and this poem isn't talking about taking opportunities, it's about sticking thru hard times
“We all have to claim our baggage before we move on” 😢 My interpretation: The idea that our problems, our family, friends and relationships issues, death eventually no matter who you those burdens will hold anyone back, it will drag you and keep you from being your true self, It’s up to you to step up accept what you can and cannot change move on to the next chapter of your life, not forgetting but using those bad memories as learning experiences. These words pull me through every day. Just buckle up, hold on, and stay strong. Keep breathing, the 'turbulence' will end soon and it won't matter after that.
The road part and the baggage part was so deep. Life isn’t that great right now, so thank you. Now I know that I just can’t see it yet, or what I have refused to do before, will come back around again, later in life.
I just want to say that I am so grateful for this poem. It grounds my thoughts. I listen to this poem over and over again and it gives me the understanding I need of my own negative thought and feelings when I myself cannot understand them. This poem reminds me to take a flight and look down, noticing that my thoughts and suffering are so small, and very much temporary and passing. This poem reminds me to not react to my loud negative thoughts or negative emotions and to look at myself and acknowledge my own contributions to the conflicts and suffering and be conscious of it. I give others the empathy and understanding, I get a break from my own pain and choose to see their pain. The more and more I listen to it, the more I get out of it. Thank you.

For a person that once wanted to end it all this really spoke to me a lot. Self hatered, comparing myself to others and the fear of letting others down are still unfortunately stuck with me but I’m fighting. The line that spoke to me the most was “how many of us would stick around if we knew that was was turbulent was ultimately harmless?” This is so deep and moving and I hope more people that are currently suffering can find out about you and find some peace and closure from your poems and videos.

When he talks about being able to see the end of the road but the cars can’t, he’s saying that life can seem so difficult, that this hard ship that your going through is never ending, but just by looking at your life as a whole you can see that it’s almost over, you just can’t see it. When he talks about how turbulence never killed anybody, he’s saying that this pain your going through is temporary, you just need to get through so that you can get to where you’d going, in other words, be the person you want to be. To finalise, it’s all a matter of patience.
I literally have always had this feeling. I am near crying because I never could put that feeling into quite the perfect words. You are so incredibly talented to be able to use metaphor and word play like you did!!! That was truly a blessing I will never forget I’m so emotional right now. This is exactly what goes through my mind with this experience.
May 19,2017 was my first time boarding on an airplane. I was 21. When I've seen the view of the ocean and the green mountainous side of the Philippines, I've just said, "Can I stay above here for a while?" Thanks for this video Jon. I hope you can have wings to fly. 😊😊😊😊 God bless you.
This poem saved my life 2 years ago, thank u for posting it. And is anyone is having a bad year just remember that "what is turbulance is ultimately harmless" is similar to what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Both are true.

Your storytelling is amazing!! You take us on a journey with words that brings your message so clearly! This is truly a gift from God! Keep doing what your doing!
Wait hold on So he said if he misses a swimming pool, he loses. He said he lost once? If he didn’t count it, how did he know it was there? This is why Thanos snapped.
Wow wait I needed this. I’ve been struggling with depression and anxiety for a long time now and it’s starting to get worse. This was actually inspirational!!!
Life is like a luggage, you take it with you to your destination. Wherever you go, you add things to your luggage. You take things out to make room. You organize, and you lose. But most importantly at the airport you claim it, because it's your life, your past, your wealth, your aspirations. It is you, where ever you go, learn to love, cherish, understand, and don't deny it because it'll keep coming back.
this was so good. all i’ve been hearing is things about waiting on God, wading through the challenges, and just believing God to do greater things beyond our imagination to achieve the dreams we want plus more. this really did help me look at life in another perspective once again. thank you for giving out what God has given you to us
If you don’t understand : He’s talking about how even though life gets hard you can’t just run away like when he said “the luggage is just gonna keep coming around and around until you claim it “ it means how if you don’t face your problems they are just gonna keep coming back.

Each and everyone of us are brilliantly equipped and gifted, and are eminently a mastermind of our own future, if only we knew how mighty and potent we are.
Amen. We are the only ones stopping ourselves. We can see others’ potential (when we are flying above them) but we can’t see our own (when we are on the ground and others in the plane.) We need to trust that we will eventually get there. 👌🏻

I listen to this every time I feel like I'm never gonna be able to move in life but I just remember I can't right that letter yet. I'm still super young and I just have to remember how much I would lose if I quit so thank you. Thank you so much for reminding me
Take aways: “turbulence” does not mean harm. It’s just a little trouble that would go away eventually W/ the bag on the carousel: your great destiny is already there just waiting on you to actually grab it
I love the way in which you contrasted between the different situations..This poem allows us to visualize &think. Lovely Poem💖 Share the love. Looking forward to listening more of your poems.

Jon I’m seeing a lot of people not understanding this but this is art, well done. Perspective for life is beautiful and I think you’ve captured it, be proud of this creation
I keep watching this and I finally understand... wow... I can't even describe.. how meaningful that is..I... The part when he said "And I think a city is perhaps a synapse of God's brain. That explains why most of the earth below is so.. pitch.. black.." and when he said "if we knew that what is turbulent is ultimately harmless, don't you think most passengers would give up before it ended" those two hit me hard
turbulent times aren't always harmless. things that cause trouble in life (& reasons for most suicides) are mental health illnesses. we are not machines, we are people, & no matter what you are feeling, it is valid.
True, but when it’s in the context of the poem, he’s referring that there will ultimately be an end to it, making the turbulence harmless at the end when the plane lands, if that makes any sense. Hehehe ||-//❤️
I'm seeing so many "I came across this video for a reason" comments, and let me just add to that bunch. THIS was very much needed. Never stop creating. -poet to poet (:
I love this!!! Thanks for sharing! I had to watch this multiple times! Im an actress and I want to speak and do poetry, I have a few poems on my page and self published my first book of poems this year but I essentially want to do what you do for a living, speaking, writing and creating art that glorifies our God. Thanks for this incredible piece! Absolutely sublime, such an inspiration and so encouraging! Sending you bucket loads of high fives!

i think the baggage part was really relatable because, you never really understand what you're doing or what you were doing wrong until you take the blame for that situation. that situation that you haven't stepped up too and took the blame for will only come back again and again until you finally realize that you didn't something wrong, and i find that as such a big thing people these days fail to remember to do. :) great poem, i loved it.

Yes, I know God lives in the believer in Jesus, but I also like to playfully think His perspective on things are so different from man's, just because He sits above all.😀 You just have to see things differently when you rise above immediate circumstances. Awesome God, the Most High.
that was brilliant ... a higher perspective .... in times of stress and uncertainty i go in my mind to the moon and look down from there and the uncertainty and stress just fade away as the bigger picture comes into view ... I loved your poem and thank you for sharing
This is powerful in soo many ways and you realise that soo many things are small in comparison to that big picture that we just cant see yet, not if we let the fear of being a bit uncomfortable stop us from getting to where we need to be.
The line about how your suitcase keeps coming back to you until you grab it really shook me, so true don't ever be afraid to own what's yours for you never know where it will take you as long as you grip that baggage tight and fall in love with your dreams it's only a matter of time till what makes you anxious is simply what.. seems.. to be.. not what's reality..
The part about divorce papers actually really annoyed me because sometimes divorce is definitely for the better. If you can’t trust or love your partner anymore than there’s no point to the relationship.
Wrigley Sings it's called marriage for a reason for better or for worse that's why people say take your time before you get married don't rush into puppy love
@@tithokozebanda9929 but it's not always puppy love. Sometimes 2 people fall in love, but then they fall out of it. Maybe one of them became abusive, or maybe they felt forced into a marriage they didn't want. There's so much going on behind the scenes than just "oh it was puppy love".. Sometimes divorce is the best option
It's about accepting the struggles with face in life as part of our growth, and trusting that God is always in control and sovereign over our lives as He sees the hardships we will face and has already planned how we will overcome them, even though we can't see them.

Because there is so much hate it the comments it just goes to show how quality it is as a poem , so controversial with so many alternative interpretations . I love it . It says it how it is ,it’s put life in a whole new perspective and that’s why I think this poem is so good because it means something different to every individual that reads it.
"From up there I can see where roads begin and end and I want to cheer on the cars.. your almost there its just around the corner you just... can't see it yet". 1:27
"The turnstile of life keeps kicking back what you refuse to pick up, in other words, we all have to claim our baggage." So true. I found tears in my eyes after this :')

I love this poem and its reminders about perseverance and perspective!!!! I shared it with my AP Literature teacher for an extra credit assignment to help her find more 21st century poetry. She loved it and showed this video to all 3 periods of her class, and had us discuss our thoughts about it afterwards!!

Then, you break free from that circle. Make your own way.
“How many of us would stick around if we knew that what is turbulent is ultimately harmless?”
That hit hard
"No plane has crashed from turbulence."
May 19,2017 was my first time boarding on an airplane. I was 21. When I've seen the view of the ocean and the green mountainous side of the Philippines, I've just said, "Can I stay above here for a while?"
Thanks for this video Jon. I hope you can have wings to fly. 😊😊😊😊
God bless you.
hallee young oh wow. 😍
This poem saved my life 2 years ago, thank u for posting it. And is anyone is having a bad year just remember that "what is turbulance is ultimately harmless" is similar to what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Both are true.

Wait hold on
So he said if he misses a swimming pool, he loses. He said he lost once?
If he didn’t count it, how did he know it was there?
This is why Thanos snapped.
omg genius
😂😂😂😂😂
Maybe there were too many... so he could see them but couldn't count them all in time. Also that's probably not the main point of the poem 😅
I think it’s about he didn’t even try to count the swimming pools?
Ember Iris I think he meant he stopped counting like he had out grown it
"We all have to claim our baggage before we can move on"
Wow wait I needed this.
It is you, where ever you go, learn to love, cherish, understand, and don't deny it because it'll keep coming back.
this was so good. all i’ve been hearing is things about waiting on God, wading through the challenges, and just believing God to do greater things beyond our imagination to achieve the dreams we want plus more. this really did help me look at life in another perspective once again. thank you for giving out what God has given you to us
If you don’t understand :
He’s talking about how even though life gets hard you can’t just run away like when he said “the luggage is just gonna keep coming around and around until you claim it “ it means how if you don’t face your problems they are just gonna keep coming back.
Literally. Lucy I hope you don’t take any offense to the graphic things said in this poem 👉🏽ruclips.net/video/OJJZYsY9v5s/видео.html

everyone is chasing the dreams, and away from home, difficulties and past, I am one of them, and I miss home. Thank you for the beautiful poem!
Each and everyone of us are brilliantly equipped and gifted, and are eminently a mastermind of our own future, if only we knew how mighty and potent we are.
Amen.
We are the only ones stopping ourselves. We can see others’ potential (when we are flying above them) but we can’t see our own (when we are on the ground and others in the plane.)
We need to trust that we will eventually get there. 👌🏻

I listen to this every time I feel like I'm never gonna be able to move in life but I just remember I can't right that letter yet. I'm still super young and I just have to remember how much I would lose if I quit so thank you. Thank you so much for reminding me
Yo. This. Right. Here. I've been trying to find a way to put how flying feels and this is IT. Its magnificent. Im in tears.
“We all have to claim our baggage before we can move on” 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I have always loved flying but i have never seen the world through his eyes. This was beautiful and powerful.
Take aways: “turbulence” does not mean harm. It’s just a little trouble that would go away eventually
W/ the bag on the carousel: your great destiny is already there just waiting on you to actually grab it

This is a really simple poem about flying and yet? There are tears in my eyes?
It is really amazing how you managed to explain life through the airport , i never thought of that before.
turbulent times aren't always harmless. things that cause trouble in life (& reasons for most suicides) are mental health illnesses. we are not machines, we are people, & no matter what you are feeling, it is valid.
Exactly. That's what makes this metaphor a bit weird when you think about what Jon didn't mention in the poem.
True, but when it’s in the context of the poem, he’s referring that there will ultimately be an end to it, making the turbulence harmless at the end when the plane lands, if that makes any sense.
Hehehe ||-//❤️

“when i turned 21 i flew to Los Angeles” that was so deep 😔
Can you explain this sentence plz
Woody here didn’t say anything profound. He’s either trying to be funny or mean. There is nothing deeper about the sentence.

i think the baggage part was really relatable because, you never really understand what you're doing or what you were doing wrong until you take the blame for that situation. that situation that you haven't stepped up too and took the blame for will only come back again and again until you finally realize that you didn't something wrong, and i find that as such a big thing people these days fail to remember to do. :) great poem, i loved it.

Every english teacher: The deeper meaning behind flying on a plane
The video’s title has me determined not to change my perspective

The line about how your suitcase keeps coming back to you until you grab it really shook me, so true don't ever be afraid to own what's yours for you never know where it will take you as long as you grip that baggage tight and fall in love with your dreams it's only a matter of time till what makes you anxious is simply what.. seems.. to be.. not what's reality..
Being a person who flys all the time and also being super spiritual this hit really hard, thank you 🙏
The part about divorce papers actually really annoyed me because sometimes divorce is definitely for the better. If you can’t trust or love your partner anymore than there’s no point to the relationship.
*say it louder for the people in the back!!*
Him: but what you don’t understand is...
Me: ... anything he is saying
It's about accepting the struggles with face in life as part of our growth, and trusting that God is always in control and sovereign over our lives as He sees the hardships we will face and has already planned how we will overcome them, even though we can't see them.
Love it man! The visuals, the music and your poem all tie in so nicely! Keep sharing :)

Because there is so much hate it the comments it just goes to show how quality it is as a poem , so controversial with so many alternative interpretations . I love it . Yep, sometimes all we need is to take a break and look at the bigger picture.
