Easy cleaning tip! When wiping stuff off of counters, like dirt, debris, napkins, food particles, I sweep them onto my dust pan. I save more paper towels that way, and it's easier to steer toward the trash can.
Great tip, now where’s my dust pan? I don’t own one so I didn’t even think of that. I don’t always remember but, like you, I prefer to use something reusable over single use.

That can be rinsed and washed, instead of going through so many paper towels. That is so inefficient and with our paper product shortage, probably not the best way to go... Also the rags give you more scrubbing power... Some even more absorbency also. Also the dishes you tossed, could have been saved/cleaned... Not the first two pans, but the others, elbow grease, brillo pad and dawn would have done the trick and they could have been donated to new family just starting out or a family in need that cannot afford to buy dishes... Just a thought...
We usually use clothes but honestly they get so gross when it’s this much. I usually end up tossing them at the end. I could go through several. The homeowner made the call on the dishes. We honored what she wanted. Some of the dishes and silverware were very rusty. We tried cleaning some of it but it was not coming clean. Not like popping into the dishwasher. I don’t think a thrift store would’ve taken it.
Soapy water vs. paper, a conundrum that disturbed me so much I asked a few ecological non-profits which was better. This was around 2010. Most of them wouldn't commit to an answer. One said they didn't know (respect) and one definitively said paper over cloths. Reasoning that once water is soapy, it's always soapy. Cloths need to be washed. Trees grown by paper companies are renewable, water isn't. There's only so much water. I hadn't thought of it in those terms and now I see why most of them said it was a personal choice. This also impacts my need to rinse everything with water. Just using paper towels to clean up the cleaning product and calling it done doesn't do it for me. Thought food, right?
And in this and many other situations there are heavy emotions including shame attached to the mess. We didn’t show the tears from her or from us. She did know how to clean, she was totally overwhelmed by the mess…thank you for your kind comment.
I handwash dishes/pots as I go. Wait until later when I'm not so tired is the DEATH KNELL of MAINTAINING clean and tidy. I view it as Spa time for my arthritic painful hands. I call it Hot Water Therapy.....just like my late Mum used to. You guys are wonderful.

Dawn dish soap and white vinegar. Mix 50/50 in spray bottle. Spray on everything (dishes too) let soak at least one hour in this case... wipe clean with paper towels. Use scrubby pad and Bar Keeper's friend (powdered abrasive like Comet)...I could go in and on with cleaning arsenal. You ladies did an incredible job, see if you like above mix!
p.s. For normal dirt, above mix, one quarter dawn to three quarters vinegar...can use vinegar and water for quick wipe if already clean. These mixes have saved me hours for stoves, grease, counters, showers. Never use vinegar on marble. test small spot first...
Great tips! I was really hoping the Dawn dish spray would work. But next time I’d try your suggestion. We had only 6 hours to do as much as we could. Seems like a lot but there was so much to go through. I’m not sure anything would’ve worked on the trust with the time we had to do it. Thank you!
YES!! "Bar Keepers Friend" I was surprised it hadn't been mentioned yet. It's been my "go to" for many years, and it's so inexpensive. A disagree a tiny bit on one point; B. Friend is powdered like Comet, but it doesn't scratch and can be used on so many surfaces. Sometimes I'll have a stain on my formica countertop, and just wetting and scrubbing doesn't get it all out. Then I make a paste, paint it on, and leave it for a couple of hours. Also it doesn't smell bad - always helps!

After deciding what to keep, and washing everything, I would have put some of the dishes in the sink and poured boiling water over them, since the dishwasher is broken. Then I would have continued to do that until all of the dishes had been covered in boiling water. Back in the day (60’s) before we had a dishwasher. We would do that. My mom didn’t feel they were clean until she had used boiling water on them.

Mom and I are concerned about your breathing with the cleansers and the dirt you are exposed to. A mask? Wonderful how you motivated the homeowner and got her back on track psychologically to take over! Well done!
Just make sure you are always spraying bleach or lysol on mouse droppings, even if you don't live in an area that is known for hantavirus, just to be sure. Also those caked on pans are totally salvageable, scrape off what you can with a metal scraper and spray on oven cleaner and let it sit. Then if there is still some stuck on after the oven cleaner you can remove scrub daddy's power paste, it removes just about everything.

Oh no! My OCD couldn't handle living around a kitchen like that. Dishwasher broken or not.....I don't even have a dishwasher and my kitchen isn't like this. I know sometimes people have different reasons as to why their situation ends up like this...such as sickness, limited mobility, depression, etc. Sending prayers for the ppl who own this kitchen that things don't get this bad for them again in the future. 🙏🙂💙
When I finally stopped being hospitalized and having surgeries, I’m just now getting my house on track. My husband got severely depressed and he was in and out of the hospital with me surgery after surgery. It was crazy. I can’t clean like I used to so I have to pick 1 day to clean and have 2 days to literally rest. I wash dishes by hand even though we have a working dishwasher. It’s just habit from growing up and we had a dishwasher when I was growing up.
Have you tried the Scrubbing Bubbles for cleaning the shower? It does WONDERS!! for cleaning grease and especially pots and pans that have the burnt grease crud!! Really recommend 👍🏼👍🏼

The way they carry themselves you would never think or believe they live that way
For cleaning the microwave. Pour a cup of white cleaning vinegar into the microwave. Remove the dish first and set the microwave for five minutes. Afterwards take a micro fiber rag and wipe the inside of the microwave. It will come out looking new.
Lemon, vinegar, soda, wipe cupboards with lemon, mice hate, so do ants, must bow to you both, you both have done an excellent job, 👍🙌🙌🙌 (greetings) from France 🇫🇷😄
Aw sad to see so much that was thrown away! If you encounter a similar kitchen again please bring oven cleaner! You could have saved all of those pans and silver at least!
Besides the owner asking them to toss what was really bad, there was a time element that day and even after they soaked, it would most likely take quite a while to get them thoroughly clean.
Didn’t need to throw all those dishes away. Could’ve been cleaned. Use oven cleaner on the baking sheets. Soak the other dishes in hot water. Would’ve still been useable. Enjoyed watching. ❤
Powdered old fashioned cleanser. Ajax is a brand that comes to mind. Bleach & White vinegar works wonders. And slightly used foil, can work better than brilow like scrubbing. Crumble it up(reg foil, not heavy duty) does wonders. Dish soap w shaker powdered cleaner. Cuts grease very well.
Isn't it great? I use it on almost everything, inside and outside. Not such a fan of the liquid scrub B.K. Friend tho, hard to get it completely rinsed off.
That looks like a beautiful home, how in the world would they let it get that way?! There's sooo many people having such a hard time finding affordable housing, and I find it so Disrespectful to let it get that Filthy!!
She approved everything we threw away and she are more apt to say yes to tossing things than we were. But yes some serious depression but just that she let us come clean is a HUGE step.
@fairy wishes As someone with severe depression, we almost always get into the mentality when it gets really bad to just throw most of it away. I’ve already thrown away plates and utensils twice in my own apartment and replaced them
I love Auri, but I don't think she would want us going to other cleaner's videos and being kind of disparaging. She's such a sweetheart I just don't think she would recommend that. And these ladies are nice and work hard too.
You don't actually need to throw away any super badly burnt dishes as they did at 7:15. They can be saved, and it is pretty easy. Use an oven cleaner, put a cling foil on top of the dish so that the oven cleaner does not dry out - and let it sit for an hour or two. And voila! The dish should be very easy to clean now, as the oven cleaner has dissolved all the burnt grease. If needed, use a scraper meant for scraping glass stove tops, and scrape off all the burnt residue. Then the dish will be like new.
An idea for a wash-up such as this would be to put all the items in their groups in a hot bucket of water with a bit of ammonia in the hot water. Soak these items in their buckets until you are ready to clean them. You could even put the hot water buckets on the floor, clean the counter tops in their entirety and then do the wash-up, bucket by bucket.
We’ve never cleaned dishes that rusted and so we tried Dawn Powerwash. Didn’t work and ran out of time. The homeowner chose to toss and get new rather than keep trying…
For newbies; make sure you never mix ammonia with any chlorine bleach product like comet, soft scrub, dishwasher gel/powder. Inhaling the gases can make you pass out.

No thx toss em!
@@CleanFreakGermaphobe Just an FYI Barkeepers Friend is the bomb for rust!
sometimes it's just better to use a 1 and done type product.
I can so relate to what you guys are all about. I love to clean, some people just become overwhelmed because they do not knowhow to clean!
And in this and many other situations there are heavy emotions including shame attached to the mess. We didn’t show the tears from her or from us.
She did know how to clean, she was totally overwhelmed by the mess…thank you for your kind comment.
You need to watch Aurikatarina clean with scrub daddy and steel daddy and oven cleaner and dish soap
Three words: plastic razor blades. They work SO well for scraping stuff off counters, and around the edges of the sink, etc.
Didn't imagine there was such a thing. I ordered some! Thanks.
Plastic drywall knife from hardware store. ;)
I use my pampered chef pizza stone scrapers. They sell them separately now and they last forever.
I use them too, time savers and they do an amazing job!
This video and her daughters room are my favorite videos on this channel. The transformations were amazing! Would love to see more videos like this on your channel!
Thank you so much for your feedback. It’s a challenge for us to do these with Diana’s work schedule and little ones. We also set it up and people get scared and cancel last minute. But we’ve discussed it.
Sometimes I'll have a stain on my formica countertop, and just wetting and scrubbing
doesn't get it all out. Then I make a paste, paint it on, and leave it for a couple of hours.
Also it doesn't smell bad - always helps!
That was so satisfying.
I used a product called greased lightning at church n the ladies were really surprised how well it worked!
I’ve use Greased Lightning for years. It works the BEST on cleaning anything greasy. LOVE the stuff!!
You can keep a small plastic hostess box with extra plates, cups, silverware. You can stick in the garage
Or somewhere it doesn’t take up room.
bern doing a full kitchen clean up to prepare for rennovations. I judt realized i need to watch your videos to clean with you, it makes me more motivated ti keep on cleaning
Great job..really!!!....I saw the comet......I am known as the comet queen in my family...lol...love the old comet...its great for most jobs..again great job.
I like it too.
Inspirational and helpful!!! Thanks so much!!!
Fantastic job you worked really hard 👍👍
Thank you, cheers!
We didn’t have time to do more, unfortunately. It was a 12 hour project and we still had more to do, like the floor.
@@CleanFreakGermaphobe I totally understand. I’m just throwing that out there in case it might be of help to someone. Thank you for your great videos! 😁
Love this!!! Would love to see more like this!!!!
I think I would have thrown the toaster out. Mice have been crawling in it. Yucky great job ladies. I think you'll be back from the looks of the rest of the house
Me too. Mice carry the Hanta virus.
This is the second video we’ve seen. The initial video was the elderly man ( black kitchen floor) whose wife died 13 yrs ago and didn’t know better. Mom and I are concerned about your breathing with the cleansers and the dirt you are exposed to. A mask? Wonderful how you motivated the homeowner and got her back on track psychologically to take over! Well done!
I changed from bounty to shop towels a few years ago. I love them I wash my dishes with them then I throw them away. Feels more sanitary that way
Nice
Brilliant! They can actually be rinsed without falling apart.
Auri rocks!
I agree. Also stain steel pads and comet to get any left overs on those pans
Great job. That looks amazing😊
You could learn some cleaning techniques from a you tuber Autiokaterina. I use her products and it has made such a difference in cleaning faster and more efficiently.
Yes!!
She'd have sprayed those pans with oven clea er and left them in the yard for an hour. It's amazing what that does.
I'm totally not opposed to tossing the far gone pans but Auri was in the back of my head saying "oven cleaner!" 😂
Love her channel so much!
Aurakaterina is a blessing to the world. These wonderful women are the same.
Aurikatariina ( auri kat ar ii na )
You need Barkeepers Friend for the sinks especially.
Love the Hard Day’s Night reference!! 😉🎸🛁 And amazing cleaning job!!! ✨💖
My husband and I do residential home maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, cleaning, punch outs etc and 1 thing I noticed going in and out of so many homes the pack rats, not so clean homes the tenants will have boxes and boxes of cleaning products I mean so much cleaning products you would think they were running a cleaning business it's ridiculous but their homes be the nastiest and dirtiest. The way they carry themselves you would never think or believe they live that way
Please remember to wipe the cords on those appliances, laying in ,ice dropping ‘s yuck. Yes,I clean the top of my microwave. Great job!
Which vinegar do you recommend.. white or apple cider ?
You Ladies are amazing! Great job!
Why thank you!
@@CleanFreakGermaphobe Your Welcome!
Awesome job! I have 4 words that will change your cleaning game…Scrub Daddy and Power paste!
Counters like this, I can imagine what the floor looks like between the stove and the counters.
Didn’t need to throw all those dishes away. Could’ve been cleaned. Use oven cleaner on the baking sheets. Soak the other dishes in hot water. Would’ve still been useable. Enjoyed watching. ❤
This makes me happy!
Thanks. It made us happy too
This is such a motivational video I had to get up and do some decluttering😊
You guys did a great job, but I think that curtain needs to be taken down and washed because I would imagine that it’s coated with grease.
Yes we didn't get to that or a lot of the window or walls...
Bars keeper works really well on pots and pans and on the sink. I even use it on my bathtub.
Isn't it great? I use it on almost everything, inside and outside. Not such a fan of the liquid scrub B.K. Friend tho, hard to get it completely rinsed off.
Bless your hearts
That looks like a beautiful home, how in the world would they let it get that way?!
There's sooo many people having such a hard time finding affordable housing, and I find it so Disrespectful to let it get that Filthy!!
We never know what people are going through. Injuries, depression, etc. It’s best not to judge.
And it had such nice appliances and fixtures….
I started using power paste this stuff is amazing!!
I love that too
Finally, a kitchen I can relate to...minus the dust and mouse feces.
That’s some serious depression there. Awesome that she was uplifted enough to continue.
She approved everything we threw away and she are more apt to say yes to tossing things than we were.
But yes some serious depression but just that she let us come clean is a HUGE step.
@fairy wishes As someone with severe depression, we almost always get into the mentality when it gets really bad to just throw most of it away. I’ve already thrown away plates and utensils twice in my own apartment and replaced them
Next time, SCRUB DADDY and a glass scraper. Both work like a charm.
That’s more than a broken dishwasher 😕
Yes. There is a problem. I think the owner needs to be there & participate.
The longest paper towel I have used is Viva! ❤
Oh geeze. AuriKatarina for the win. These ladies have nothing on her.
Agree! Auri is the best cleaner in the world ❤️
Everyone isn’t cookie cutter.
I love Auri, but I don't think she would want us going to other cleaner's videos and being kind of disparaging. She's such a sweetheart I just don't think she would recommend that. And these ladies are nice and work hard too.
@@sheelfjohnson Agreed. Seems rude.
I loved this! You guys are awesome! Glad to see you wearing gloves!! Keep it up 😊
work ladies, I would have had a meltdown with this kitchen 😂 I just subscribed 😊
Thank you for motivation.
I had to give a like after the third “LIKE CRAZY!” 😂😂😂
You don't actually need to throw away any super badly burnt dishes as they did at 7:15. They can be saved, and it is pretty easy. Use an oven cleaner, put a cling foil on top of the dish so that the oven cleaner does not dry out - and let it sit for an hour or two. And voila! The dish should be very easy to clean now, as the oven cleaner has dissolved all the burnt grease. If needed, use a scraper meant for scraping glass stove tops, and scrape off all the burnt residue. Then the dish will be like new.
We honored her choice to toss them.
These videos are my new addiction lol
I need this music playlist to clean! Lol . Great work!!!
Such a great job!
Wow, this is the kitchen after that small bedroom! Great job!🌹💗
Just a question, what is that small brush you used to clean the corners?
We wish we could do the whole house! The brush is from the auto section at Dollar Tree. It comes with 3 brushes in the package.
@@CleanFreakGermaphobe I see. Thank you.
I'd use Sterilite bins and vinegar/soap but we had the same motivation. :)
For newbies; make sure you never mix ammonia with any chlorine bleach product like comet, soft scrub, dishwasher gel/powder. Inhaling the gases can make you pass out.
I’d never use one of those dishes. I’d throw them away too.
You girls are amazing. New subbing.
Not having a dishwasher is no excuse for that filth ! It takes minutes to ash dishes daily
That kitchen scares me. It would take so long and so much work to clean. I hope they are able to help
Amazing.
Excellent work 👍 Well done
Great job what an accomplishment
Damm that kitchen...I'm having hurricane Sandy flash backs
Great job cleaning! However, I can't quite make out the details. Could you please tell me what you used to clean the toaster? Thank you.
