      Do you see that childlike joy on Linus' face? Let us forget our annoyances with major tech congloms for a minute and share in his joy as he rediscovers the childlike joy of playing those games on native, period correct hardware, which is becoming increasingly hard to find. STOP YOUR PARENTS FROM THROWING STUFF OUT! Don't let some poor Nigerian or Chinese child have to disassemble it for precious metals! Someone, somewhere, that is very very valuable to them, just like you can imagine someone's boomer parents throwing this Hotbox PC into the trash. It's not going to be easy finding hardware to boot DOS games off 5.25" floppy someday soon.

      honestly there was a lot of fire shit back in the day. I mean a lot of the hardware sucked, but it was so cool. It was back when they were first digitizing everything and experimenting with all kind of different storage formats and devices, before it all basically just became touchphone adapters and iPad type junk. Or worse, basically a touchpad with a keyboard mounted on top of it being sold as a wildly overpriced laptop for $300 filled with Google spyware.
      There's so much neat stuff Linus and team have done when they really focus on the sort of tech geek stuff, and I think one of my favourite may still be that 4 GPU in SLI configuration before SLI even existed by one of the guys who's now working on enterprise flight simulators iirc

Nothing this fancy -- most outrageous graphics it'd have to push are my dad's hidden object games on a 720p TV used as a monitor -- but fit something like a 5300 on an ITX mobo into this thing and it'd futureproof him for the next 8-10 years or so.

You'd think that would be enough but not when you're also planning to buy a used 5950x at some point and "overclock" it to like 200w at a certain point. So there's that plus, how much GPU? THey're saying freakin 400w? 600w, just right there, bam. Not counting my HDDs and SSDs, plus optical drives plus RAM that's probably 100w minimum, plus peripherals fans etc. then I'll need an AIO and we're maxxed out so I can't even plug a HOTAS in. Would gold foil work in place of thermal compound, seeing as it can conduct heat very well and would most likely fill in the tiny gap between the CPU and your cooler? I've heard about Indium foil being used, but would gold foil work even better?

    • @Robo-xk4jm
      @Robo-xk4jm 2 года назад

      wtf? im no expert but i dont think so. isnt the point of thermal paste to make sure all microscopic gaps are filled ensuring max thermal conductivity between the IHS & cold plate? upon a little research indium only sorta worked because of how soft it is, idk if gold is as soft/malleable as indium, but the indium foil preformed worse then carbon thermal pads from thermal grizzly, which preform worse them somewhat decent thermal paste. id say just see if there is some sort of gold alloy thats liquid at room temp

    • @DJCloudy_
      @DJCloudy_ 2 года назад

      @@Robo-xk4jm You are correct, that is the point of thermal compound. However, since gold by nature is a soft metal and gold foil is very malleable, it should fill all the gaps. Gold is also a great conductor of heat, so that might help it outmatch indium. Also thermal paste can dry up, whereas indium and gold don't, which is why they have use in places that you don't want to have to take apart often.
