There is a song called "When a blind man cries." Written by Deep Purple but performed live by the singer Ian Gillan with his own band. The vocal quality is close to his performance here.

Ian Gillan will turn 79 next Monday and you cannot expect him to hit these high notes anymore. But that's totally fine with me. The new album as fantastic and as the musicianship is concerned they are still concidered the best.

This is DP Mk2, the best line-up imho. Jon Lord (RIP) on his cutdown and modified Hammond organ fed thru a stack of Marshall amps is mind blowing. Lead guitarist Ritchie Blackmore is probably the greatest and most underrated guitarists ever. He formed a group called Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio after DP broke up in 1975 (you really should check them out - Stargazer and its sequel A Light in the Black is epic, along with Kill the King, Tarot Woman, Do You Close Your Eyes and Starstruck). Deep Purple reformed with Mk2 in 1984 and released Perfect Strangers. Ian Paice is one of the best drummers of the time and Roger Glover is often overlooked for his work in the engine room on bass guitar. What more can be said about Ian Gillan’s voice? Unbelievable. Welcome to the music of my late teens and early 20s.

One of the greatest rock songs of all time. As I said before, I saw them live last month, but unfortunately Ian Gillan cannot sing those high notes anymore, so they didn't play Child In Time. That's the most disapointing part of the entire concert. But other than that, it was amazing and astounding performance. They are still amazing and rocking. I recommend you go to their concert because I don't think they will ever stop touring, it's one of your only chances to see rock legends live. When you are 90 years old, Deep Purple will as legendary as Mozzart is to us now (a bit less).
