The " Come Taste the Band" album with 🎸 Guitarist Tommy Bolin replaced Blackmore for their last of the 70's ?
If not check " Dealer" .
Let me know you're thoughts !
I love Bolin and that album is way too overlooked. For me 🔥 start to finish. Not comparing with MKII Purple which I also love. It's just different.

Clem , who had been the Stones, Site Manager for years , and I went up to my van to relax. Highway Star comes on the radio and I see a Tear in Clem's eye! In 1972 he had just graduated Highschool and was sweeping floors at SeeFactor in London, one of the first of the big Rock Lighting Suppliers. All the regular crews were out on different tours, and the Deep Purple contract for the Machine Head Tour came in, so after 2 weeks of sweeping, clem was sent on his first World Tour! He toured for the next 25 years....

I wonder if you're familiar w DP's '60s work? Specifically, 'THE BOOK OF TALIESYN'... similar sound sonically, but completely different vibe. It was, loosely, a concept album, based on the legend of King Arthur- according to some legends, Taliesyn was a Welsh wizard/mystic & advisor to the king. Most of the songs contain references to the kingdom, & there's an overlay of mysticism! I recommend 'Listen, Learn, Read On' to start! (BTW, the album is very 'weed-friendly'- LOL!)

Deep Purple put on a great concert and had a lot of good albums. Blackmoore was a beast. All of them were great.

You guys are right, this is footage from a gig in Copenhagen in March 1972 - the Made in Japan gigs were in August. There is supposed to be some silent film of the actual Made in Japan shows but I don't know if anyone has released them or tried to synch them up to the album. They never played the songs exactly the same live which is why it looks weird in places.

Jethro Tull live is a must!! Ian Anderson is such a showman and a madman on the flute!

I saw Tull, front row back in the late 1970s...you're right Ian is one of the best showmen in rock history. The whole band, actually. Side note: Did you know Ian, who never smoked, has lung cancer & his doctor says it's from performing surrounded by smoke machines onstage for all those years. He hated the smoke but promoters, managers etc insisted it looked "cool" so Ian gave in. Apparently he's not exactly dying of the cancer but what a thing to live with, huh?

Palm Beach Int Raceway....early 70's with Savoy Brown and Blue Oyster Cult. I worked at the track, so I got to hide/sit right onstage! This opened their set. It was very loud!

Thank you for doing Deep Purple!
Ian Gillan has said that he was a bit ill in his throat during the Japan shows on the tour. He also was doing "Child in time" right after "Highway Star". I guess both are good reasons why he wouldn't go to extremes on the first song.

Like the fact you chose to play the live video, it really adds to the experience. Getting to watch Ritchie, Jon, Roger and the two Ian's do their thing is so much fun. And, of course, "Highway Star" is one of Deep Purple's BEST songs, so much energy. Mark II DP rules!
