Two years ago Bonnie Raitt won the Grammy for Song of the Year. The live audience reaction to this award was astonishment; I believe that 90% of the "guests" in attendence probably never heard of Bonnie Raitt. The song was "Just Like That". I won't divulge the subject matter of the song, I will only strongly encourage you to give it a careful listen. Now I'm an old fart who's been a fan of Bonnie Raitt for about 50 years; and every time I listen to Just Like That I choke up a bit and even a tear comes to my eyes. Please give it a listen and consider doing a reaction video; I think you'll understand where I'm coming from.
Since I was 14 yrs. old, Bonnie was my idol. That was in 1973. She came to my town a lot back then (Rochester, NY) and I saw her shows several times. Her name wasn't big then, but that just made me more proud 'cause I sure did know her and had all 3 of her albums. I wore them out. She did draw a good crowd even then, but she spent a lot of years without the respect she should have had. She was so good, but just under the radar, if you know what I mean. Then Don Was produced an album for her in 1988. She won a Grammy for Best LP. It was titled "Nick Of Time" and she was finally seen and heard in everyone's living room. She was just turning 40, I think. She is a compassionate, cool, bluesy woman with a heart of gold and a voice to match.
Bonnie recorded it first many years before Linda. Hers is the original. The song was written by Eric Kaz and Libby Titus. Libby is married to Donald Fagen of Steely Dan fame. She has a daughter by Levon Helm of The Band (before her marriage to Donald) no one not even the great Linda sings this as well as Bonnie.

This song STILL makes me cry - I am a HUGE Linda R fan but no one does this better than Bonnie except maybe Rita Coolidge whose version is so poignant when one considers she recorded when her marriage to Kristofferson falling apart !! The emotions on that album are heart wrenching!!!!!!! Been a fan since the 60's!!!
This is from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th anniversary concert, a two-night event in 2009. First Crosby, Stills and Nash performed, then Stills took a break and Crosby and Nash did a few songs with Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne and James Taylor, before Stills returned, and they all sang Teach Your Children together. Other notable performers included, Simon and Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, Jeff Beck, Metallica, Ray Davies (Kinks), and Mick Jagger, among others. The entire concert is available on CD and Blu-ray.
Linda Ronstadt did a beautiful version of this song. Bonnie does a beautiful job here. Both she and Linda had very powerful yet different voices. Two of the very greatest. 🌸💐✌️

Bonnie is iconic. She set so many standards few will ever reach. Crosby, Stills and Nash created some new sounds, harmonies and lyrics rarely seen now. Check out "Wooden Ships" and enjoy the opening line and the guitars!
My father’s favorite singer was John Raitt, Bonnie Raitt’s father. Dad thought he was fantastic, as did I and the rest of my family. John Raitt had an absolutely stunning tenor voice, and at first thought of singing opera, but eventually went, instead, into musical theater during the Golden age of the Broadway musical. He played handsome, dashing leading men with great success. I remember him being particularly great as Billy Bigelow in the film version of Carousel. Curly in Oklahoma! was a good role for him, too. As John grew older and Bonnie came into her own, there are videos on YT of them singing together. Wonderful.
I love this song. Love Bonnie Raitt and CS&N but I have only heard Linda Ronstadt sing this before today. As a teenager, I got to see CS&N in concert right after Woodstock. It was a great show!

I always loved her voice and was chilled by the depth of her soul that sings from her. I saw her many times in the 70s when she was on the bar circuit in Denver and Boulder. She often toured with John Hammond Jr., who blew off the roof with his blues band.

I have had this video in my playlist for a long time. A devoted Bonnie fan for over 4 decades and this song is in the top 5 list of her best ever. I agree that Linda’s version is stellar, but Bonnie takes the prize. I know that many consider I Can’t Make You Love Me as their favorite, but I think this performance makes a valid argument for this one as a photo finish.
You should hear Been Too Long At the Fair from the same Bonnie Raitt album, Give It Up (1972). Another extremely delicate and haunting song. Bonnie's first three albums are especially fantastic, although she's probably best known for her comeback years from 1989 onwards. A great talent.

was living in Nashville in the late 90's and during the summer they had a festival with multiple stages throughout the city. I was at the main stage and the acts were the Ohio Players ("Brick House") and then Bonnie Rait (with David Crosby). Through the entire Ohio Players set, Bonnie and David were at the side of the stage, dancing along with the Players. She's all about the music.... FYI - She's also the author of a classic comment...." I don't want to see any faces at this party that I haven't sat on...". Just sayin' that's my gal...

Not to mention her cover of ANGEL FROM MONTGOMERY, recorded for the 1974 album Streetlights, made that song famous; "if dreams were thunder, and lightning was desire - this old house would've burnt down a long time ago." - which propelled John Prine's fame to a much wider audience, and for most of us old timers is Bonnie's signature song.
Please look into early Bonnie Raitt. You know her as a balladeer, her early stuff shows her as a kick-ass blues woman. Something like "Women Be Wise" as a duet with Sippy Wallace the woman who originally wrote the song in 1933. "Gotta' Know How" or "Wah She Do" are other fun Bonnie songs.

why am I here? I'm 72, these musicians were part of my history. I was listening to Bonnie long before she got that beautiful white stripe in her hair. The first CNY album got me in high school, and the second, with Neil Young, electrified me all over again... and turned me into a Neil Young fan when they went their separate ways. A lot of incredible musicians that could seriously sing - without auto tune. They learned to stay on pitch because it was a fundamental requirement of their jobs.
For female singers with a "soul" (in that genre), my top three would be: Yes, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt & Judy Collins (which is Stephen's inspiration for Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, after breaking up). Yeah, good music coming out of that era. Miss it quite a lot. Tks for sharing with us. Syl.

David Crosby died January 18, 2023, he’s the one with the long white hair. Played with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Nash, and Stills. And some times with Neal Young, a one time bandmate from Buffalo Springfield.

Crosby Stills Nash and Young are incredible You would be doing yourself a favor to listen to all of their music. Biggest hits include Sweet (?) Judy Blue Eyes, Teach your children, Helplessly Hoping, Ohio and several more. I will watch any / every video you do of their songs.

I got to see Bonnie live back in 1990, shortly after Stevie Ray Vaughn was killed in a helicopter accident. She dedicated her tour to his memory. She's a class act.
Speaking of Linda Ronstadt, she has a beautiful album of Mexican music,Canciones de mi Padre. Some of her best work and it’s been filmed from live concerts accompanied by a mariachi group.
I understand that most of Bonnie's recorded performances are first or second takes.And it tracks like this, where the studio version is really raw.... its quite something. She's a national treasure.
Glad you noticed Bonnie's Guild guitar. Guild makes, and has made outstanding guitars...I believe she is playing a model F-55 or an F-50. Absolutely tone monsters. As a player, I'll take my Guilds over Martin or Gibson any day.

Ella Fitgerald - Listen to Cry Me a River and I think you'll have her up high too. Maybe not first, but def there with the great female voices. Love your findng Bonnie Raitt. But of course, there is more.

David Crosby died January 18, 2023, he’s the one with the long white hair. Played with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Nash, and Stills. And some times with Neal Young, a one time bandmate from Buffalo Springfield.

I got to see Bonnie live back in 1990, shortly after Stevie Ray Vaughn was killed in a helicopter accident. She dedicated her tour to his memory. She's a class act.
I saw her live at the fairgrounds in Traverse City Michigan July 1991.

Glad you noticed Bonnie's Guild guitar. Guild makes, and has made outstanding guitars...I believe she is playing a model F-55 or an F-50. Absolutely tone monsters. As a player, I'll take my Guilds over Martin or Gibson any day.
