    The 1st paddle tail I ever used was the Mister Twister Sassy Shad. We used to use a small version for crappie. That was probably in the early to mid-80s?

    I pretty confident the very first paddle tail on the market was the mister sassy shad, made by Mister Twister

      I'm 46 and I can remember those mister twister paddletails in my dad's tacklebox.. they went on a beetlespin type rig

    • @oldfishermanandhisdog
      @oldfishermanandhisdog Год назад

      @Carlos Alvarado there were a couple of sizes, a smaller size for crappie and white bass and a larger for black bass and strippers.

      He had 2 different sizes and probably3 or 4 colors.. I actually probably still have them in that tacklebox.. it hasn't been opened in years since my dad passed

      I’m also pretty confident that they came out in the late 70,s

    I don't go saltwater fishin' without some paddle tails in several sizes. I should try some for bass. I just got a Sleeper Gill to try too.

    Greg the Mr twister version may have gone back possibly into late 70s, but as far as I know was the first paddletail.

    I remember when all we had was the H&H cocahoe minnow and they were mostly fished by saltwater fisherman , but I remember swimming it too and catching bass on it but most people back then were not throwing it for bass , and I used to smoke em on it , on a red head jig head

    • @tedlovellfishing1467
      @tedlovellfishing1467 Год назад +1

      For 20+ years the 3" H&H Cocahoe Minnow was the #1 selling soft plastic fishing lure at Academy Sports & Outdoors. Academy Sports & Outdoors still sells millions of them every year. Great Flounder, Speckled Trout & Redfish bait in bays and off the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. The Pearl, "Strawberry" (red silver flakes) with a white tail, and the solid black with a chartreuse tail are still "staples" of many TX and Louisiana guide's bay boats. Rigged on a leadhead alone, and rigged as a spinnerbait with a single gold Colorado blade...deadly!

      @SpookyRedz Год назад +1

      @@tedlovellfishing1467 the H &H is older than that , 40 years before there was any academy

      I used those for flounder in Florida and caught trout and redfish on them too.

    Remember the old "Ding a ling" worm in the late 70's? It was also an early paddle tail design that worked very well for me in north Florida. I don't know if it got much national distribution.

    On BSL near Bull Shoals, a paddletail is a year round bait. Keitech and Damiki rule here. The Rage Swimmer also gets a lot of use.

    I bought the Megaass Magdrafts and never fished them again. They are ok for stripers if anything. OK just doesn't cut it.

    Hey mr randy, really need some help with another issue, I'm having trouble with braid snapping on the Hooksett...its happening on my texas rig and frog....brand new braid....what can you tell me to help

    • @kayakfishingforpredators9107
      @kayakfishingforpredators9107 Год назад +2

      Did you check your rod eyes for damage ? Small cracks can be made visible with a cotton bud, if you can detect some hair get caught at the SIC insert its cracked. Other question did you swap out the reel to another rod, does the braid also snap with that other rod ( and thus other eyes )

    • @tacticalnali1206
      @tacticalnali1206 Год назад

      Strongly agree to check for damage. After checking for damage guides, the other questions to ask are what size line, type of knot, and rod choice, and where is the braid breaking on hook set. Frogs I tie a Palomar knot with either 50# braid in openish water and 65# in the pads and almost locked drag on a 7-7.2 medium heavy/heavy fast action rod. Texas using straight braid is also palomar knot with 20# braid on a medium/medium heavy fast action rod with drag set to 80% of line rating. Palomar knot for me is a strong knot that’s easy to tie and doesn’t slip on me. If it’s breaking at the knot, the line is either undersized (cant He man a hook set on light line and tight drag) or the knot is weak/tied incorrectly or potentially that hook has a bad eye. If breaking mid line, I’d check for rod or reel damage and could possibly be a bad spool of line or damaged when spooling it on. I’ve had bad power pro line straight out of the box in the past.
