      HAH! Enjoy. I cannot stress how much better the upholstery staple gun made life. I wish you luck, feel free to msg me if you have questions!

      @@DachsAutos she’s on and finished started around 9am with a quick lunch break. Would have finished sooner but I had a issue with my rear bow “lever mechanism” it’s riveted to behind the rear side panel…mine had bound up somehow (previous owner it’s always made a strange noise) I guess the new top was tight enough it was binding against the rear glass. No idea how it didn’t shatter it

    Thank you for this!! You're the only one that I've found that has replaced the top with the glass window vs. straight out swapping the old top with glass for a one piece top with the plastic window. Saved both parts of your install and will use them as reference along side a CJ pony one as I tackle the project hopefully this weekend.

      Did you get to your project yet? If not and you have Q's. feel free to drop me a message! -- I looked high and low for the complete kit with glass, in the quality material, and we'll see how it holds up this year, and over a cold Minnesota winter in storage. As you can see, it was a chore, and I can understand why a shop charges what they do. If you can find an upholstery stapler vs. a manual model, it's SUCH a help, especially on your hands.

      @@DachsAutos I did get to my project. I got the whole top from American Muscle for fairly reasonable.( like price of an alternator service reasonable). Got to it a week later than expected, but it worked out as I had more time to focus on it. The grommet part of the top was a struggle, getting the hook out of the old one and into the new. When it got to the stapling part, after 2 $25 power staplers not cooperating, a mid range one form lowe's was a HUGE help. It may not be shop perfect- but it's better than a roughly 20 year original top that was brittle, no longer weatherproof, and disintegrated as I removed it.
      My 01 California convertible is a convertible again, there are some tweaks that I have to do still, and it's still stretching.

      @@MorganCharpentier Awesome! Glad it worked out for you. -- I borrowed an upholstery stapler from my Father and that worked well. Mine is probably 90% perfect, but for the day or two it might get wet, it will be just perfect.

    The two screws under the quarter trims can be removed with a skinny long phillips head without having to take the trim out just be careful to not drop the screws.

      Helpful tip for sure. The only long phillips i had was not the correct wise, so fumble I did!

    How much do you think it would cost to have someone replace the top? Would it be a good thing to go through my insurance? My top is ripped right along the top part of the back window and I’m wanting to just replace it and I’m wondering how much you think it’s going to cost me? It’s for a 2001 GT that is in really good condition except for the tear across the seam of the window 🤪

      The person I bought it from was quoted about 2000 for the parts and labor to have it replaced at a shop...

      It's not as bad as you'd think, but still far more than a 2-3 beer job. Being able to work thru, and not stopping for daycare and family time would have made it easier I think, but.. Gotta do the family thing too!

    Where do I find the bolt pattern tightening order on the metal strips on the back?

      @DachsAutos  Год назад

      I didn't have a pattern, however I believe I worked from center to the outside slowing to help against pinching or uneven material.

    What were all the tools needed? Did you need a special type of staple gun?

    • @DachsAutos
      @DachsAutos  Год назад +1

      Hey Dustin. No special tools aside from the staple gun. I had access to this DuoFast model for upholstery. a.co/d/aZcxNaZ I would think most electric guns would work vs the hand activated one as long as it's a heavy duty model, or upholstery grade.

      What's the timestamp you're referencing? At about 20 min, if you're talking about that long metal rail, I'm not sure the proper name, but I'd call it a metal retainer rail. :)
