Here's a video review of the Major Havoc at the Funspot Arcade in Laconia, NH. I really think this is a neat Atari vector game that has a vector beakout clone that you can play during the intermission screen. The game was created by Owen Rubin and released by Atari in 1983. There were only about 300 dedicated Major Havoc games made. Atari also released a conversion kit that was designed to convert a Tempest, Space Duel, Gravitar, or Black Widow into a Major Havoc. Funspot's Major Havok was originally a Tempest.

I love the music it plays when you slide your car into the finish line, it is a classic, maybe not much depth, but it is still fun!

Wow! 1983? I don't think I played it until a few years later! One of my faves as well.

Man, the tempest knobs were notorious for getting bound up like that. The worst sound, makes me crange to this day haha.

OK, to play breakout, you have to actually launch the ball. Press fire in the intermission to get the ball to launch. And you only get a limited pay time and then we take away the game. So it takes several levels of play to complete the breakout game.

The ones on the walls are electric. The acoustic I play on the show is near my desk. :)

We had a obsession with every space in the late 70s early 80s something that is missing from today's games .

In DK Jr, you play as Junior trying to save Papa from Mario.

I played this game at Funspot, and I remember it having a bit of sound problems (pitch was lower than usual).

Nice to see this at funspot. I'll have to get out there some time.
I guess some have pointed out the fire button launches the ball. The object of the breakout minigame is to clear the board. You will receive a bonus life and a surprise when you do.
Seems like your buddy is spinning too fast and maybe overloading the spinner input. Haven't played their machine but major havoc should definitely move quicker on those mazes.
Its a fun and interesting game once you get used to it. Good luck.

Both spinners (Tempest and Major Havoc) in this video need some 3 & 1 oil!

I've had one chance to see a real Major Havok in the wild. Conversion, of course. Wound up in, of all places, a laundry mat. Indeed, a very fun game.

On the Fun Spot front, I really wish you got some back room access... Would've been sweet as fuck, John, you've gotta have enough pull for that. Billy Mitchell ain't got shit on John Jacobsen!

Serve the ball with the fire button or shield can't remember 100%

Great review, and thanks for talking about it. Any chance you would be willing to take a high resolution scan of the conversion flyer and send me the file? And I have to agree, the game is much harder with the spinner.
Now, to correct what you said, the breakout game is seperate from the warps. The breakout game, if completed, will give you an extra life. The warp codes, which also change with the spinner while playing breakout, are what do the warp. However, they are not related.

looks like a cool game but they should have made these spaceship parts a little bit longer and just use a joystick for the movement instead of that roller^^ do you can still buy these rollers?

Nice review vid John, never played this back in the day, saw more tempest machines here in the UK - mostly the cabaret version. My friend has loaned me his for a bit but we've got PCB problems. Do Funspot not mind people just wandering around with the camera and talking to yourself :) I hope you don't mind but I promised a while back i'd share a vid of my arcade setup - a mini funspot of its own see here: youtu.be\iHdtnpNDvio
