I guess there are several reasons why a full componet kit is a good idea, whilst some parts may have been previously replaced you don't know how long ago that was and they may also have used the wrong values. Putting a fresh full kit of correct parts in would seem to be well worth the effort. Definatly also worth checking all fuses are correct values and that they make good contact with the holders by testing for continuity across the actual holders rather than just the fuse. Seen other videos where fuses were wrong values and when fuses are good but not contacting properly into the clips. Good idea to label the PCB with 'Caps changed' and date of change. If in doubt swap it out!!!
thanks this was a big help, going to work on a tempest machine today. the monitor has a "pinhole" in the centre that seems to deflect random light, the game itself works fine but this is annoying to the customer. I will let you know what the outcome is
Hi John Congratulations with the good Work to the monitor, I know that you could fix it. :) Trust your self :) Looking forward to see your repair vids. Best regards Per from Denmark :)
This reproduction board is good and bad... Bad that its come to someone needing to reproduce PCBs. But totally awesome that someone has taken the time to remake something like that. You have a brand new board. thats just cool. Got a ballpark number on money spent?
Hey, congrats, thats been a tough one for you. Don't forget to meter your B+ now as you've rebuilt that section or you'll get odd problems, 180v. Have you had to replace flybacks on a Sanyo ez20? i got one which now goes into hv shutdown but flyback tests good, put old one back and it works.
Awesome vid; thank you so much! You wouldn't happen to know where to find a Vector XY Monitor would you? It seems as though they are ridiculously rare now... =/
though my mom walked into my room once, saw the box on my dresser and apparently thought it was a condom box. all I have to say is those are some big as condoms
Con gratulation is on a job well done but please do not solder so close to your midi controller. It is just a matter of time before an accidental glob of solder burns a hole in your keyboard. It makes me cringe!
LOL! :) Well, I don't have a lot of room in the basement to work on stuff. Just my little recording area. Don't worry! I will not ruin that keyboard. :)
OMG, THANK YOU
The Tempest in my kitchen will soon be back to life!
Did you ever get it fixed??
It's alive!!! It's alive!!! Master the monster is alive!!!! Great to see you get your Tempest monitor working again. Happy days are here again.
Congrats on finally fixing your tempest monitor. Hard work did pay off!
excellent work as usual, like brand new now with the rebuild kit!
Thanks, buddy!!!
Glad you're feeling better. Was experiencing J's Arcade withdrawal myself. ;) Fine work as always!

Congrats on getting it fixed! Gotta have some more faith in yourself bro!
9:23 - In line resistor should be a 1 meg ohm 3 watt.
Good info............. Any idea what might happen if someone used 100 meg ohm as guessed at in the vid?
First videos i saw, i though you were totally crazy. Now i know you actually are. I love it tho. Please go on. Thank you
I enjoyed the video. BTW, Tempest is an absolute classic, still totally addictive.
Glad you got it working
"I have a bad feeling this is not gonna work." Don't know why that made me laugh.

Any idea what that black mark is in the center of the screen.
I knew you would fix it, great job !
I just did this today for my Star Wars game. nice!
good job john
looking good here all load up :)
Big congrats, it's looking great! Wonder which component(s) it was that had gone wrong in the end.
Question: Why do you apply solder before you de-solder?
Wasn't this monitor originally developed specifically for Tempest?
Hey, congrats, thats been a tough one for you. Don't forget to meter your B+ now as you've rebuilt that section or you'll get odd problems, 180v. Have you had to replace flybacks on a Sanyo ez20? i got one which now goes into hv shutdown but flyback tests good, put old one back and it works.

Thanks! I'm feeling 100% now! :) All back to better.
Can I ask how much you have spent for your collection? Very impressive, not to mention you have to rewire your power to provide enough amperes!
Hey John I have noticed in several vids you have a thumb ring. Is there a story behind it?
Great Job!!!!!
Awesome vid; thank you so much! You wouldn't happen to know where to find a Vector XY Monitor would you? It seems as though they are ridiculously rare now... =/
