    EXCELLENT VIDEO! Great explanations and video quality. Thank you so much! I purchased a dead Tempest machine (it was supposed to be working) and it's been sitting in my garage collecting dust. I think this video is exactly what I need to get it going again (we've isolated the issue to the monitor). I'll let you know how it goes!

    This video was exactly what I needed!
    I inherited a Tempest cocktail and it was playing blind, noticed the R100 resistor was blown on the deflection board (exactly like the one you had shown). Going to get a cap kit, and LV2000 board, hopefully that does the trick.
    Cheers!
    Jay

    Good stuff as always. I always thought the consensus of opinion what that the 6100 is self-discharging?

    • @ArcadeJason
      @ArcadeJason  5 лет назад

      yes but it a flyback has failed it cannot discharge the tube

    • @andybaldman

      @@arcadeblogger Flyback failures are extremely rare on these however (and if the fly was bad, it wouldn't have been able to charge the tube in the first place). 6100's are self-discharging, which is why there's no pop in this case, like with most raster monitors. There still can be some residual charge, so you always want to be conscious of what you're doing. But I don't discharge them when I rebuild boardsets for folks.

    I am glad you explained it..
    I was kinda weirded-out..
    What the... Break out.... On a tempest arcade machine?
    What kind of voodoo witch craft is this..
    I am freaking out.
    Or Mandela effect but..

    at 32:33 you can see the board sparking or arcing at the bottom left corner near that ceramic resistor thing.

  • @memyopinionsche6610
    @memyopinionsche6610 5 лет назад

    Is that what they mean by reflowing cold solder?
    I have heard the term but nobody explains what it means.
    And why it needs to be done.

    Lots of folks on other sites have stated that discharging the monitor like you show risks blowing the capacitor inside the CRT...have you ever had that happen?

    • @ArcadeJason
      @ArcadeJason  5 лет назад +1

      that is a myth also they are referring to the diode inside the flyback not a capacitor

    I thought vector monitors shouldn't be discharged the way you discharge a raster monitor?

    • @ArcadeJason
      @ArcadeJason  5 лет назад +2

      that's actually a myth it started from an old service bulletin saying it could damage a black and white tube .then later people thought it must have referred to the diode on the flyback . but the truth is this method cannot damage a tube or hv diode

      Arcade Jason the quick flash on the bottom corner of the board by the ceramic resistor? Not the led up higher that goes solid.
