Here's a quick review of Paper Boy which was an arcade game put out by Atari in 1984. Original dedicated cabinet, not MAME.

This was cool, thanks for making this. It's nice to see what the physical machines and controller looked like.
I am from Kyoto born in 1978... So, I was really 👍 one of "Nintendo" dude ... I went to college in LA after that... However, now I am 45, and really understand what it is. Paperboy is super cool !!!!
Nice demo of the game. I was waiting for Wednesday with the BEES and the drunk guy! That's when it starts to get a bit more thrilling :) I completed Easy Street in the arcade.
Never knew what the arcade cabinet looked like. I 1st played Paperboy on the Gameboy. Great video 👍
Love me some Paper Boy! Remember playing this in the arcade in Chattanooga when I was a kid. One of my all time favorites.
I used to play this all the time at Lamppost Pizza in Modesto in 1985/1986... great memories
Love your basement! Love paperboy!
Your gameroom is totally awesome, blkdog7! You must be rich getting these!!
Bonus points for hitting the break dancer! This game screams the 1980's. Thanks for this.
I played paperboy too when I was a kid, I'm 31 now.. The game just 2 years old when I played it :-) ahhh, the memory's
I too played in ‘86 as kid. Will never forget. Miss the ole arcade days.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the video. PAPERBOY ROCKS! :D Good luck with your channel!
I wonder if you still have and it in working order 12 years later? You mention MAME yes, I was thinking about possibly making a control for it, since analog controls of any sort don't work great on it. I can actually play it with a track ball. The problem is the Paperboy yoke springs back, something the track ball doesn't do, the ball also very free to move in any direction. For the Paperboy yoke you want to restrict Y motion for the acceleration and brake and then make a rotation for the X turning control.
I have Paperboy as well but needs some work...how much did you pay for yours John and what do you estimate its worth at?
I this was the highlight of my holidays
@scir91 I agree! I am going to work on improving the 'shaky cam syndrome' on my videos in the future. Stay tuned!...
I loved this game when it came out. 720 too. I drank gallons of rootbeer hanging out at the pizza shop playing these games.
Hey blkdog do you have a robotron 2084 cabinet if you do you should review it
this concept was totally original
the controls
the story
even a secret trick
this had a crowd around lake tahoe
Can't believe this game 37 years old 😁
Actually, the game can also end in this way: if all of your customers cancel their subscription, the game ends with the paperboy getting fired.
Quick fact: This can't happen on the Easy Street.
Good job as always...
I'm only 15 but when I was much younger I was in Cub Scouts, and the building had this machine. My dad was the pack leader and was there every weekend so despite not being an 80's kid I grew up with this game :) When we couldn't pay rent on the building and were gonna lose it and the machine was for sale really cheep... then there was a flood and it died .__. I still would love to have this.
I hear magic drop in the background. One my favorite puzzle games.
I played both, the ZX Spectrum version was actually decent when compared to the arcade original.
No conversions could match playing it with those handlebar controls though.
so on the actual machine, do you accelerate by pushing the bike controller forward and brake by pulling it back?
That camp ground is probably yogi bear campground. I have been there and to one in Wisconsin that had die hard the arcade game
You wouldn't happen to know where I can find standard 19 inch monitors for a decent price?
(The review starts at 2:00, by the way.)
There was a glitch on certain paperboy models - (this didn't work on all paperboy games I came across)before the finish line of the training course bear ALL the way to the right and you will continue to another training course continue the training course as normal & you will receive serious amount of points - this will give you a lot of bonus lives making it easier to complete the week
Also be careful because after doing this glitch weird things happen during the regular game play - for instance - some subscriber houses will actually look the color of the non-subscribers house - so at the end of the day you could lose that subscriber - I hope this works on your your arcade !
Thanks for helping me re-live my youth - your arcade room looks awesome !
Didn't read the previous comments - but someone stated that between finish line & the picket fence - THEY ARE 100% CORRECT!!!! - that's what i meant when I said bear to your right !!!!!
I used to wear this game out at showbiz pizza back in the day! :D
Am I hearing Magical Drop on your Neo Geo cabinet in the background?
i never see anyone perform the 1 million extra life glitch on these orig cabs, is it even known. when finishing the stunt course, any day. keep far right, and there is a gap inbetween main area and white picket fence, theres a tiny patch of grass. if you can get your bike in there the game freaks out and you get 1 million. dunno if it was an easter egg or the game freaks out as bike goes out of map.
Hi. Thank you for commenting on the glitch. You can see the glitch at this link.: ruclips.net/video/g7Im6GUYjVM/видео.html
I note Paperboy for the fact that it was one of the first ever arcade games to use "raw" sounding Yamaha FM synthesizers, released in late 1984.
My friend and I, 30 years later, still say to each other, "now you have a friend in the paper business."
A h h h h! The good old days when John used to make videos and wanted people to subscribe to his channel and we all did and we supported him and all of a sudden two years goes by and he disappears out of thin air and let us all down. Would have been nice if you would have came out and made a public service announcement to all subscribers on what was going on in your life. It would have been the right thing to do .
I've played paper boy and I think its hard.
I want to live in your house bro! I used to like the ZX Spectrum coversion of Paperboy but I never played the cab :(.
I also have an original 1986 Playerschoice 10 stand up arcade game which allows you to play multiple games and game time is dependant on how many quarters are inserted "resonable" offer - Love your video and what a cool game room you have...Please let me know if you have an interest in making an offer on either or both games - Thanks Johnny
@joeypesci I don't have it, but seems like a cool game to check out in MAME.
I've seen a person once get to Sunday. That day is hard as the paper is of course bigger on Sunday and thus they fly slower.
I loved playing Paperboy. I sucked at it, but loved playing it, even at 50 cents a go. I still have days when I get the music stuck in my head.
i just think about the 80's and Ice Cream sandwiches while playing this shyt
@nutherefurlong I have an APB in my garage. I'll post a video soon.
Your the coolest bro...i played this game as a kid thought it was the best
This game plays really well on a 4 way joystick ... I use a Atari Replica to play this ,... works a treat
There's an early 80s arcade game that has a man yelling to you "Help me" not sure if it was a parachutist I can't recall the name
@OldMusicOnVinyl1 Yeah, totally! Paperboy has some amazing music and sound effects!
I want this game so bad!
Lol, I used to play this at the local roller rink, so as to avoid having to skate. It actually does translate pretty well to MAME. I could never make it through day 1 at Super Skates, but in MAME I can beat Easy St. I don't think Hard Way is beatable. The bees are on your ass right out of the gate, so you have to go full speed.
Jesus, that's scary about your sister!
Keep them coming!
no gameroom is complete without a mr dos castle
Lol, nice machine, never seen one of these before, lol, well done on finding the cheap monitor :o) Yes, I suck at paperboy too :o(
I wonder if I could have this game in my basement.
Bicycle handlebar USB joystick - Thats some funny shit
This was my favorite game as a kid. I still suck at it. I can sometimes finish Easy Street, but I've never finished Middle Road or Hard Way.
I haven't seen a Paperboy cabinet in at least 15 years. I have it in one opf the Atari Collections for the PSX, and I've played it on MAME. You're right, the game just isn't the same without the handlebars.
I could swear the game does end if you lose all your customers though.
When i was a kid, i never really understood this game. I never took the time to learn, I guess. Now, after watching this at 44 years old, i finally "get it"
Ha! It's a GREAT game. I love it. I totally loved it as a kid too.
kinda funny the candy store by my school had this game but prolly didn't get it till 87 maybe 88 and they got it after double dragon and gauntl
fun
Although it was developed in 1984, I don't think Paper Boy was released until April of 1985.
I remember the take out Chinese restaurant in my town had this game during the spring of '85 and I played it all the time. Great game and graphics for the time period.
THAT'S your BASEMENT??! I'm jealous. For real.
cool
omg memories sniff i cant believe it ontop of that right next to moon patrol i lived in arcades in the 80s me and my sister used to play that together to and kung fu with the 2 controllers i also loved burger time bad dudes altered beast golden axe elevator action splater house dragons lair double dragon shinobi and gauntlet now those are real games
@blkdog7 I wish I had Gotten the message at the time you posted it. I bid on two monitors on ebay. I bid on both of them because I keep getting sniped, but then I ended up winning both of them. That's expensive for somebody on a fixed income like me.
gauntlet . I used to ask for extra lunch money and sometimes not eat and would be starving to game out a lil more . I think i had my mom giving me like 3.50 when lunch was a dollar so i could game out .
I have an ORIGINAL 1984 Paperboy Machine just like the one you featured on your video. It has no damage and plays awesome. I have owned it for years and it has been stored indoors. I HATE to sell it but I am in a financial crunch. I have done alot of research and of course I know how rare this game is to have in perfect condition. If you or if you know anyone that may be interested in my Paperboy arcade machine, please feel free to make me a "resonable offer" - - - Johnny
I played this one a lot at our local pizza parlor in 1988 and 1989. They used to have about 7 or 8 classic video games in there until the mid 1990's when they cleared them all out :( Always liked this game but was never any good at it.
ahhh you didnt show how you control your speed i want to see you push thows bar`s back and forth :)
is there anyway you can play this game without calling it out?

@Corad4 Almost all of my games are on FREE PLAY. It's the best way. :)
@Isthisthelongestname No, I don't have Battlezone. I have friends that do and personally it's not a game for me! :)
Actually plays well on MAME with a usb gamepad
I played this game for the first time on the orginal gameboy...the whole color thing didnt work. lol
Clasic game i played it a lot :-) i think the game i played most was Double Dragon
Søren Schjødt double dragon was the best
Scores Scores Scores.
I love jungle king
I got paperboy 64
Foxy Is bae that Game is fun i emulate it and it's funny with the Music and graphics
Your cellar must be worth thousands.
@jsenigaglia I SUCK! I know. YOU my friend, have mad PaperBoy skillz. You should post a video showing you play!
LOL@bad black houses. Still a great game, though.
If you end a day with no subscribers, you are allowed to play the next delivery day with no subscribes. However, if you complete the course for that subscriber-less delivery day, the game ends.
@BoingotheClown If you want a new monitor check arcadeshop. Otherwise, buy a horrible game on Craig's List and take the monitor from it! I do this move all the time.
The game is tricky
Beat the game on the NES.
Is your basement that loud that you have to shout your intros?
No. I'm just loud.
Ahhh, just wondering.
Superb room you have nontheless.
You sound like circletoons
You should shake the camera a bit more.
+SuperCholdi This video is 6 years old. :) EQUIPMENT HAS GOTTEN BETTER. :D
Elbow dampers?
+SuperCholdi Yes, I have installed those and that's what I use now.
Yeah- I hope that medium res doesn't go out on you anytime soon!
Just picked up a Xybots and fixed my Cyberball....
I subbed- check me out sometime.
You may be the worst paperboy player of all time, haha. I kid, I kid. Nice vid, meng.
Game is unforgiving. I can get to wed on easy. If anyone can beat it on hard, Jesus your god
lol wow i remeber that game and where it was tokins it took ,,,,you are out of comtol i guess your real life make you more then the arcade ,,,but you need to take these babys out to real world rent small space and put them to work you have enuff to bring them in i be there every day
