- In this video, Dr. Doug Lucas explores the effectiveness of supplements in improving bone health and hormone balance. He emphasizes the importance of relying on evidence-based tools and products. The discussion focuses on the potential benefits of phytoestrogens, specifically genistein, in promoting bone health. He reviews research studies that demonstrate the positive effects of genistein supplements on bone mineral density. He also highlights the potential risks and interactions associated with these supplements, particularly for individuals with estrogen-related complications.

This channel is focused on Bones, Hormones, and Healthspan to help midlife women and beyond aim for optimal, not average, and reignite their spark!
The videos on this channel will be focused around helping women navigate healthspan and longevity through the lens of osteoporosis, perimenopause, and menopause. When it comes to osteoporosis and menopause providers and educators often get tunnel vision and your symptoms might get better, but if you don't keep longevity in mind, symptom improvement may come at the expense of heart and brain health.
Subscribe and follow along as Dr. Doug Lucas explores the research and clinical applications surrounding women's health.

I am so thankful and thrilled. I am 63, had a bone density last Fall, my Dr wanted me to start medication to improve bone density as I was in a high risk category as my Dexa was not good. I thought about it, almost did, but didn’t. Instead I challenged the Dr with a plan I came up with. He said he would do another Dexa this year. I just had it done and my Dr messaged me that my bone management is working. There was a 15 % increase in my right hip, and a 22% increase, compared to my last Dexa scan, in bone density in my left hip. I have worked hard at this and your videos encourage me and I learn so much. I mostly use the Grow Bone kit made by Garden of Life. I lift weights, bought a vibration plate, walk fast on a treadmill, plus a little more things at times. I also added melatonin daily. I do use soy. At least for me this plan is working and I am so grateful! Thank you for your videos!
That’s wonderful! Congratulations! Just starting out here and trying to figure out what to eat (I tend to be more plant based but need more protein and maybe dairy calcium?) I’m concerned about what is actually being absorbed versus what I am consuming seeing as so many of my favorite vegetables-kale and spinach and many others are high oxalate. What vibration plate did you buy? How much melatonin? Thank you and once again your story gives hope. Thank you.
@@trixiegirl9401 he did a video on the vibration plates. i just purchased the power plate but have not started yet....they use it at osteostrong. i also ordered a weighted vest which has not yet arrived.
Hello! Which vibration plate do you use? Thank you 😊
Congratulations!!! I would also be interested to know which device you purchased. I hope you continue to make gains! Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing all of this. Glad you are enjoying these videos!
I’m lifting heavy weights, eating more protein, drinking lightly pasteurized farm raised milk, BHRT, magnesium, vitamin D3, vitamin k2 MK4 MK7.

When I was told I had osteoporosis, I started doing research and that’s when I found you, Dr. Lucas. I joined Osteostrong after watching your interview with the owner. But I think it’s a combination of tools that works the best. So I don’t skip meals anymore. I eat a lot more protein. I’m also doing heel drops and getting more sleep. I’m going to have a DEXA scan next March and we’ll see if that’s working.
May I ask what is Osteostrong? I have osteoporosis and had taken Alendronate for 4 years + calcium+D3 but it didn’t help. Now my doc wants to put me to the injection medication… which I don’t know should I or shouldn’t.?!?

I have found Dr Doug, Margaret Martin, and the Mayo Clinic Osteoporosis support group to be very helpful. I still haven’t figured out my path forward but would really like to avoid pharmaceuticals. In the support group there are many taking medication and it’s very helpful to hear about their experiences as well. Maybe helpful for you? Good luck!
I’m also curious to find out more about Dr. Doug’s Healthspan Nation and maybe join…
Maybe there is an OsteoStrong near you (search internet) they offer a free class.
I would not take any prescription medication because it may slow the loss of bone density but it makes your bones more brittle.

What difference have you seen in your bone density by using your protocol? Which Life pro device are you using?
My endocrinologist told me last week that all those exercises just straightened muscle but not helping to restore bone loss
There seems to be mixed information on osteoStrong, vibration plates, supplementation, exercise. Do you have anyone in the Pittsburgh Pa that you could recommend and or team up with for treatment Where is the closest REM machine where Dr Bush is available to work with? I can’t find any medical Dr that will go along with non medication treatment of osteoporosis . I also have Parkinson’s so diet and exercise recommendations interfere with osteoporosis diet and exercise recommendations. I am working with a functional medicine doctor who says he follows Keith McCormick and Mark Hyman but isn’t well versed on Parkinson’s. I appreciate your input! I listen to all your you tube presentations.

Resistance and impact training, bio HRT,
BUT! Dexa still getting worse.....starting to doubt dexa is reliable, I am 5'7" ,113 lbs. I think dexa underestimates small women. I hope that's not just wishful thinking.
We should be considered on a different scale for sure. Smaller bones and less weight, I think, should be looked at differently.
You are absolutely correct to doubt the Dexa. Get a REMS Echolight test. I am a small woman and on Dexa my L spine T score was -3.6. I was suspicious about accuracy so I had a REMS. My T score on REMS was -2.4. HUGE difference. I am only at osteopenia level now.

I could not have gone from age 17 until age 52, having those kind of knockdown-dragout cramps without Ortho-Novum 1/50s. For some women hormonal OCPs are a game changer. In my next life I will be a guy, that's for sure....
