In Splatoon the circular design in the middle of the square functions as a respawn anchor now I'm not sure if this is supposed to be Canon or not but if you get out of bounds and accidentally die which you can in both games you respawn at that circular point so maybe they're built into that circular point because that symbol is synonymous with respawn in the Splatoon world and my theory is that that respawn point is just a very basic form of a respawn point the reason that the ones that matches are so complex is because they have to keep a barrier up for spawn camping while the ones in the city don't need a barrier (edit I thought of more to add on) the reason inklings can respawn in Salmon run is because the life preservers function as very low tech respawn points that only contain enough ink and only contain enough power to keep the inkling soul alive but require a lot more ink and therefore power from your teammates therefore making portable but teammate dependent respawn points which also don't have barriers because they would be too big and require too much energy and the fact that you can super jump to the point in the middle of those maps and salmon run means that they probably also set the super jump point which is like a respawn point but instead of responding it's a point where inklings can super jump to and get refreshed with a tiny bit of ink probably stored in tanks to respond any inklings that require ink for their backpack respawn points the reason for the big satellite dishes is for communication back to the grisco's headquarters and the reason that inklings can respond limited amounts of time inside of the octo expansion and story mode I'm still trying to come up with but I'll update later.
Most of these points are mentioned in other comments but I just wanted to sum up my theory in one big comment mind you I made this theory up before I read all the other comments so I'm sorry if this is all just repeated somewhere else.
Also I did this whole thing with voice text because I'm not manually typing out this entire thing so some parts might be slightly broken but you could probably get the idea so if you see respond it means respawn
Here's my theory. The inkling ghost is the actual inkling and the inklings kid form is just ink. Whenever you turn into a squid you can move in the ink but that wouldn't be possible if you were a physical kid and whenever you respawn it just fills the ghost with ink. Now if you touch water the ink on the inkling will dissolve and whenever you get splatted the inkling will explode in ink it doesn't even leave a corpse just ink, clothes and a weapon.
My theory is that too much water is dangerous, when inklings touch water, it soaks into their skin, too much water makes them pop. Inkling cannot swim because too much water soaks in all at once, rain soaks in a little bit at once because the water is falling on them, they can stay in rain for awhile but after awhile it gets dangerous.
Hmm, besides color… How do we know that isn’t a wooloo. I thought the radar was explanation why Inklings could jump into Salmon Run because the electromagnetic field high there and the radar allow them to respawn back and return to the safety of the boat. The subway is functional thing to my memory and goes through an Eletro magnetic field. Some train in japan actually do the same thing and just hover the rails. If happens in one place why not underground where it at it’s highest. The super jump and the radar… It might be a mix of technology and an inklings natural ability. I think it was because we were breaking his respawn point This might be gruesome do but I think Inklings just can’t handle salt… The explanation maybe they can’t handle the salty sea or contaminated water, but okay in fresh water to take a shower and rain. Maybe the variant ink goes through the ink tank then into the weapon. It wasn’t because I was eating part of squid tentacle and put some salt on it.
Maybe they don't have a lot of anti-rain systems because rain just isn't usually enough water to splat them. There are puddles and shores in some areas that you can stand on without getting splatted. My theory is that increased acidity in water caused by humans in the past makes getting submerged dangerous since it can dissolve a cephalopod's skin. Rain on the other hand is rarely heavy enough to have major effects and blocked more easily by clothing.
I personally think that inklings can handle small amounts of water such as rain. Reason being is because you can dip your feet into water or even partially up your legs without getting dissolved.
0:55 in splatoon 1 if you did the out of bounds glitch and fell off the world, you’d respawn in the chalk thing and i bet the same thing would happen if you somehow got out of bounds in splatoon 2
my theory was always that before entering a turf war both teams enter kinda like an airlock where they're sprayed with colored ink mist so that their bodies recognize that it's time to change color (maybe mini versions like in a spray bottle could be used to color tentacle matter a different color in a hair salon) which then allows the inkling to respawn once it comes into contact with a spawnpoint of the same color. i always thought the "inklink" thing was like a half-spirit that indicated that they've been splatted but not like *real life* splatted where they never respawn. once they leave the battle they're sprayed with anti-respawn-ink-mist-stuff that "disconnects" them from the spawnpoints and brings them back into survival mode, so to speak
For an in game reason, if you go out of bounds in the main square, and somehow end up in the “dead” zone (kill zone, no survive zone, out of bounds, etc.), you’ll respawn in the square, but the animation of respawning is skipped, and you just appear to be teleported to that place.
@@tyresr I understand, I guess what I was saying was an explanation for why there was no respawn point in the square. Don’t worry, I completely understand glitches can’t be lore, unless if they are referenced as a joke.
The difference between the pictures is probably not the gear itself that boosts you, but a chip inside it that turns on and off when you enter/exit the lobby, which would explain why your able to make the clunky power armor can give you run speed. And while it's technically not supposed to happen, you can die in inkopolis by glitching out of bounds and then you respawn from the symbol you pass over, which probably means there are a bunch of respawn points painted to look like the ground, plus the likely scenario of having respawn points in homes. As for water, they don't dissolve. The pressure of being submerged pops their skin (since it can go up to their waist before they die), which probably means that some altitudes are deadly.
I do like this theory butbi have 1 problem with the bit at the begining with the respawn point in inkoplious square, we do see the markings of a respawn point, and in salmon run if you die inbetween rounds when you super jump back to the starting position you get respawned on what appears to be just the white paint on the ground
Why does a salmon run respawn require fresh ink from a weapon when there's perfectly fine ink of the same type on the ground everywhere that I can jump in. Does it need velocity or get stale so quickly? And why doesn't Grizzco have sprinklers on its platforms?
My thought is that you need a thicker consistency of ink. So the ink you fire is thick enough but the second it hits the ground it splats against the surface and spreads out, making it too thin to use
New people in the splatoon games: So it's a cute child Us:yes nothing strange bout them Them: who can turn into a squid and use ink as ammunition for weapons Us: yup perfectly normal Them: and can regenerate a new body after death Us: yup perfectly norm... wait WTF
Vasko Do you know how many ideas you have given doujinshi artists with this single video DO YOU KNOW THAT YOU JUST GAVE INKLING BODIES A REASON TO BE INCAPACITATED ARTISTS CAN NOW GIVE A REASON FOR SALMON RUN BEING “SKETCHY” WHAT HAVE YOU DONE
My theory is that, there is something in the stages that activate the abilities in clothing. And the ink tank leak enemy ink when you fall into water. And if you hit enemy ink in stages, it make you super jump to the respawn point to don't get fainted like 3 And salmonid ink makes we faint BCS is toxic to inkling and the life rings are "revivers" who make us don't die after hitting salmon ink
I’m pretty sure that the reason they get splatted in water or ink is the limiter on their ink tanks hence why outside of matches their is no reason for rain protective measures
Theory # 3. they are all inklings/octolings! :O Here's my explanation when you die, all ink in you explodes. you can see this clearly when you jump off the map. and for them ink is like blood, so they DO die. but when you "respawn" they bring ink back in your body, with the hair being that color because of that. For water and drowning, you only die if your completely submerged, or if all ink in your body is replaced with water and the ink comes out. You can see this clearly when you jump off maps with water. same with being splatted by the opposing team. if there ink replaces yours, your ink will explode. But then how does Callie, agent 3, Marie, and cap. cuttlefish not die? easy. they have made have some form of armor, possibly from their special outfits- to not get harmed or the ink agent 3/4 shoots is only effective on octolings. same can be said about the squid sisters talk about clothes that allow you to jump into water. This also aligns up with the OE final boss where there was no ink to bring agent 8 back to life. I hope this made at least some sense to all of you who read the whole thing. thanks for reading this
To me i think ink/octo-lings dont die because of water but rather by the preassure of the water, to answer the respawn i think their dorms most likely work like a respawner, and to answer the skills, theyre most likely just for gameplay and in universe they just like to have drip
I have a theory with inklings and rain :> Ok so inklings and octolings are made up of ink right?? So when they go into water they dissolve because the ink will break up. HOWEVER, rain isn’t like the ocean, it’s droplets of water, and it isn’t likely for ink, a thick consistency, to dissolve in it, at least as easily, so I’ve concluded that inklings and octolings in rain would probably be fine as long as they are careful. I think the most it would probably do is make their ink more “runny” or something, if that makes sense. Of course this depends on the heaviness of the rain and how thick the consistency of the ink is, which side note we can conclude it’s most likely quite thick as you can gather from turf wars and such as different ink colours don’t mix at all, but we don’t know exact information, this is all just speculation, but it makes the most sense to me so yeah :P that’s my theory
I mean, the water one has a logical explanation, as stated in one of the Splatoon 1 scrolls, Inklings and Octolings are just ink, sooooo what I concluded here is that if they dive into a body of water such as a pool or a lake, they dissolve, but if they just drink water or shower on it, it doesn’t affect them, I’m sure that if they shower they have to do it in a certain amount of time like idk, fifteen minutes or something and if they pass that limit the water enters the body and they dissolve
I don't know if you can in Splatoon 2, but in Splatoon 1 you can actually die in the plaza by going out of bounds. If you go far enough out, you'll fall through the ground, die, and respawn in the middle of the plaza.
If the inklink can be used by other creatures that can explain how some band members play rainmaker matches while bot being inklings i don’t remember the names of the different band members who play rainmaker but the inklink can explain how they play it
The way that I tend to think about this does not have to do with the body themselves, it has to do with the ink. We know that there are actually different types of ink in the game because of Marie's "Low-Tide Ink" from the hero mode. Because of this, I believe that this primarily has to deal with the spawn points. The spawn-points are likely to have a special type of ink that can be lethal to other inklings. This would possibly explain why the inklings are always in a squid form in the opening scene before an battle actually starts. When the battle ends, the ink will then "mellow" if you want to say and will no longer become lethal to other inklings. Though even when the inklings get shot with the mellow ink or the "Low-Tide Ink", they can only take so much, so if you shoot them enough times, it will most likely stun them. In the case of the abilities, it maaay be possible that they figured out a way to activate the abilities when the gear comes into contact with the ink that is from the spawn point, I have not exact though about that part too much. Though, I do feel that this theory is pretty interesting. A well done video.
I like to think that inklings and octolings don't know how to swim instead of popping. I just think it's more fitting that inklings just lost their ability to naturally swim in water and that they now have to learn to swim in water like how humans have to learn how to swim. (Sorry if my grammar and spelling are bad. I'm not very good at writing due to learning disabilities)
I have a theory that since the Splatoon world got flooded basically they just made floatation devices that forms as a continent and they can’t swim and to back this up in the Octo expansion at the ending they rise up out of the water and and the ink is a sort of acid that if you get hit with enough of it you will lose your body but keep the soul so they can still regenerate and when entering the battle field the ink acid locks on to other weapons where it goes into affect that is why Callie and the others don’t lose their body and the fight with agent three is when the acid locked onto you but the reason why it didn’t lock onto him taking out his body was because the acid was locked on the goo
Normally inklings/octolings can handle rain, but not water surfaces, because that is too much water. And btw in the splatoon manga, one of the 4 main characters ( i think she is called bubbles) was once wet from rain, and ste is verifved as inkling, bc she has the same personality in battles and in the plaza, and the one about the one gear ability subject, i just wanna say, that i think that went even for Nintendo too far, i mean, that they didn't think about that tiny little detail, splatoon is also just a playable big code and art and animation and mp3 files
And that’s why splat bombs Vanish after falling too far off the map And shots of ink vanish to Because no one wants to be driving on the road blow me mana ray towers towers I just have ink come down on the windshield and get in a crash Because they can’t see through the big blob of ink
My concept. If they drink or inhale a amount of water they die. The spirit is technology proving they've been splatted. Spawnpoints aren't used in the real world... The reason for the last one is that Spawnpoints keep your soul attached there until the timer stops. If you die while still connected to a spawnpoint due to the fact that the spawnpoint will not repeat in the future you will be stuck there forever. Sure It may seem absurd but we don't even know if souls are real and etc. It could be that they are just technology advanced.
My theory is that the ReSpawn pads put Properties on your inklings causing them to die from ink die from water and Causing them to die if they fall to far The map
Getting out of bounds in the hub kills you and respawns you at the spawn point in the square but this might not be cannon because it sort if requires hacks to get this to work
I think the respawn point in the square is an actual respawn point. Respawn points are actually very simple to make. The only reason spawn points are so complex in battles is that all that technology is actually creating the force field. The actual spawn point is just the markings on the ground.
nintendo could easily have made it just reload you into the map or whatever, but fact they set it up so you respawn on the respawn marked part of the ground .. kind of suggests this is how it works
The reason why water maters in an online battle is because wen you fall in water you cant swim so you drown but when it rains you don’t drown also i also think that it doesn’t rain in the inkling/octoling world.
I don’t think rain affects inklings more like if they are submerged into water is the deadly thing, I’m pretty sure that in one map the inkling can submerge some of it’s legs but nothing happens and I’m also pretty sure that on the single player there is a map with rain so i think water is deadly to inklings if they submerge over their waist
I think that water doesn’t do any direct harm to inklings. I think it’s just that they can’t swim in deep water, and only swim in shallow water while in squid form.
Never thought of it that way imagine this was the case I doubt it but imagine that'd be so funny (I should be specific in saying like option one or two like if they're actually real in lore)
Maybe rain isn’t problem because it’s not a singular large body of water maybe at most rain just stings a bit or maybe not at alls so maybe only pools of water is deadly while individual droplets are not
For the raining 30% of the time thing, that may not necessarily be true. The climate's already changed so much since human times, I doubt it'd stay the same in that respect.
my theroy is that squid kids are affected by water all the time but they only expoled from bodys of water. rain only stings them :) (my grammar bad sorry :,) )
0:46 I can see where this is going, you are making an entire theory off of the difference in game mechanics between the battle modes and the Plaza main hub to say that the battle inklings aren't actually inklings, they are some kind of organic bots designed to be replacements for the inklings battling. Okay, now that's an interesting headcanon to grasp straws at from the lack of in-game content from Nintendo. Okay bye! Vasko: Wait, I need the views for the RUclips Algorithm! And also you might be wrong! Me: Fine, but only cause you need them. I'll still be playing Splatoon 2 though, so if I can't type back to say "my bad" don't go and assume that I just left a comment and am ignoring, k? Vasko: I was never going to assume that, Don't be ridiculous. Me: Oh... okay then thanks sweetheart! Oh, I would like for both possibilities to be true, mostly because A) I am EmperorBoo and B) the latter would feed into my own private little roleplay where I possess a personally created body of an Inkling just to explore the Inkling world whilst experiencing it from the eyes of the Inkling. There are occasions where I leave the body, namely to either yell at the other Inklings, speak into their minds and annoy them with all sorts of various bits and pieces of trivia, or to partially possess another body by manipulating their emotions and concepts of reality in order to control them. This really and honestly only happens occasionally when I troll Callie or Marie when they make a pun or something like that, a "I hate you for making that pun" type of joke. And also because it would create some interesting story and challenges, especially with needing to track down a respawn point in some challenges and also we could actually have a "Drop-in Drop-out" full fledge lobby with an arcade booth and a training/warm-up room, with the Ink-Link being the thing to connect you to an upcoming match if enough players plug themselves up to the machine. Would be cool.
And I think why cuttle fish doesn’t get splatted becuase they don’t have a color at that moment like purple against yellow yellow is going to die because of the purple ink but you have yellow in the single player or whatever color and cuttle fish didn’t have a color so like in the city it won’t even if the-YOU GET WHAT I MEAN

The inklink theory is what I've always thought. Even with other games that let you constantly respawn. XD
Well of course those aren’t Inklings.
The actual Inklings are the little ghost squid on the inside. They just pilot their personal ink-mechas.
When you think about like that i guess we're all just souls piloting a flesh mecha
@@Big_Man-tarothat checks out if you can kinda consider the brain as the soul
rain has no effect on inklings, they just can't swim. (i got it from the manga)
bull. if this was cannon surely the dev's would've added a sunken scroll talking about it. this feel like a theory for the sake of a theory
The super jump and the radar…
It might be a mix of technology and an inklings natural ability.
I think it was because we were breaking his respawn point
This might be gruesome do but I think Inklings just can’t handle salt…
The explanation maybe they can’t handle the salty sea or contaminated water, but okay in fresh water to take a shower and rain.
Maybe the variant ink goes through the ink tank then into the weapon.
It wasn’t because I was eating part of squid tentacle and put some salt on it.
2:28 quick theory they have respawn points at their houses
I blame car quest
The theory makes a lot of sense that would also explain how the ink color can change while in the plaza it stays one color
Yeah, but the ink color is the color you had during your last match. So no, it doesn't really make sense on that particular thing
@@darkchachouke2614 hmmm true
Those inklings can’t die in the over world but those can die in battle…
They’re Different!
Idk, I think Nintendo was pretty clear that the squid kid thing is an inkling
ruclips.net/video/mZjS6YMb7C4/видео.html
Everything we know could be a lie? The squid and Octolings is an lie.
I can’t believe it’s not even actually an inklings… It’s Inklink.
Inklings are effected by *salt* water not rain water
I personally think that inklings can handle small amounts of water such as rain. Reason being is because you can dip your feet into water or even partially up your legs without getting dissolved.
0:55 in splatoon 1 if you did the out of bounds glitch and fell off the world, you’d respawn in the chalk thing and i bet the same thing would happen if you somehow got out of bounds in splatoon 2
We all live in a simulation in a simulation
I mean, maybe the abilities do work, it's just rude to run flat out in the city.
Cool theory, but like…during the great turf war I doubt they would have this technology yet…so…
4:44 I would love to see him do a run with squid based Pokémon, just to answer that question.
Interesting....
Guess we ll have to see if splatoon 3 supports this theory or not.
Water is deadly when they're submerged or neck deep in it, but rain isn't literally acid
story mode disproves this
(SPOILERS FOR SPATOON 3)
So do the altera logs
my theory was always that before entering a turf war both teams enter kinda like an airlock where they're sprayed with colored ink mist so that their bodies recognize that it's time to change color (maybe mini versions like in a spray bottle could be used to color tentacle matter a different color in a hair salon) which then allows the inkling to respawn once it comes into contact with a spawnpoint of the same color. i always thought the "inklink" thing was like a half-spirit that indicated that they've been splatted but not like *real life* splatted where they never respawn. once they leave the battle they're sprayed with anti-respawn-ink-mist-stuff that "disconnects" them from the spawnpoints and brings them back into survival mode, so to speak
Is this a repeat of the "inklings are the respawn squid" hypothesis?
Apparently not, at least you acknowledge it.
For an in game reason, if you go out of bounds in the main square, and somehow end up in the “dead” zone (kill zone, no survive zone, out of bounds, etc.), you’ll respawn in the square, but the animation of respawning is skipped, and you just appear to be teleported to that place.
unintended glitches aren’t canon
@@tyresr then why is there a “respawn” logo where you are when you boot up splatoon 2? On the floor there is one. Why would they make it? Ascetics?
@@gavout1511 idk im just saying unintended glitches can’t be used as an explanation for lore.
@@tyresr I understand, I guess what I was saying was an explanation for why there was no respawn point in the square. Don’t worry, I completely understand glitches can’t be lore, unless if they are referenced as a joke.
What is your obsession with car quest?
here's my idea: VR. the gear's stats are registered and loaded onto the character in a VR simulation, and deca tower is actually a VR hub
4:33 is literally answered in Octo Expansion Bad Ending
@@Big_Man-taro yeah, that may also be plausible.

He may not have lost his mind from car quest, but losing it form genshin is still up in the air
WHO IS THE WEAKEST INKLINK?????? genius idea I know I know.
My theory is that, there is something in the stages that activate the abilities in clothing. And the ink tank leak enemy ink when you fall into water. And if you hit enemy ink in stages, it make you super jump to the respawn point to don't get fainted like 3
And salmonid ink makes we faint BCS is toxic to inkling and the life rings are "revivers" who make us don't die after hitting salmon ink
I’m pretty sure that the reason they get splatted in water or ink is the limiter on their ink tanks hence why outside of matches their is no reason for rain protective measures
I'm sure rain can't kill inklings, only if they are fully in the water
Yep, there's a level in hero mode with rain
@@arkethel TRUE!
*Lillie blushes when she remember firing at Callie*
Theory # 3. they are all inklings/octolings! :O
Here's my explanation
when you die, all ink in you explodes. you can see this clearly when you jump off the map. and for them ink is like blood, so they DO die. but when you "respawn" they bring ink back in your body, with the hair being that color because of that.
That would also explain why they can do crazy stunts in battle
I have a theory with inklings and rain :>
Ok so inklings and octolings are made up of ink right??
It is actually possible to die in the lobby (and you do respawn) but its due to an out of bounds glitch so idk if youd count it cannon
Yay! A splatoon video (recently got back into it because I 100% legends)
I don't know if you can in Splatoon 2, but in Splatoon 1 you can actually die in the plaza by going out of bounds. If you go far enough out, you'll fall through the ground, die, and respawn in the middle of the plaza.
C'mon, just admit that this is an April Fools joke.
I have a feeling in canon it's really just game mechanics but the ink/octolink is a neat in-universe explanation to why the game works the way it does
the octopi come with a 20 dollar price, while the squid come with a 60 dollar price
0:34 is the best part of the video
Maybe the reason why inklings and octolings die in water is to keep them off from getting out of the main map. Like a barrier
4:33 it’s canon that in the escape sequence and the nils statue fight if you fail agent 8 actually dies
Inklings are liars, don't trust them, got it
no you can trust inklings, only for the small price of 10 small payments of 49.99
@Anonymous User that's what they want you to think

It could be that they are just technology advanced.
that doesnt make much sense though? if you had the ability to respawn, you would use it everywhere,
I guess you could say you had an inkling that inklings aren't actually inklings.
Isn't there a tutorial where your inside of inkopolis and have your weapons?
The reason why water maters in an online battle is because wen you fall in water you cant swim so you drown but when it rains you don’t drown also i also think that it doesn’t rain in the inkling/octoling world.
their world is based on the real world in the future so it probably can rain
there are two types of "inkiling" one is the squidlings that stay in inkopolis inkilings are made of ink with the soul of the squidling in battle
Clearly inklings can just choose when they do and don't want to get splatted
I don’t think rain affects inklings more like if they are submerged into water is the deadly thing, I’m pretty sure that in one map the inkling can submerge some of it’s legs but nothing happens and I’m also pretty sure that on the single player there is a map with rain so i think water is deadly to inklings if they submerge over their waist
I think that water doesn’t do any direct harm to inklings. I think it’s just that they can’t swim in deep water, and only swim in shallow water while in squid form.
Car quest gave your brain critical errors
Never thought of it that way imagine this was the case I doubt it but imagine that'd be so funny (I should be specific in saying like option one or two like if they're actually real in lore)
Maybe rain isn’t problem because it’s not a singular large body of water maybe at most rain just stings a bit or maybe not at alls so maybe only pools of water is deadly while individual droplets are not
Or they are protected by some special technology and it's really expensive so they only use it for the sport
Makes sense.
can you do a video where you find out how many weapon kits you can get in salmon run
The zapfish is the main power source of the city right?then how would they use the Machine to get the power source of the city if there is no power!
The reason why they die in water is because inklings don’t have bones so they can’t swim
