  • I only got one ride in on my new bike before I went to Boston for a week and a half. So today I decided to change the Ride 9 setting to #3 from #9 to see how I liked it.

    Bought a 2023 A30 and like you I've been switching the chip around; it's cool how it makes a subtle but noticeable difference. This is my first full-suspension mtb and it's definitely fun to ride and tinker with. I've got it in position seven now, which to me kind of made the suspension feel more firm and it seems to climb better.

    Been riding instinct c50 this season. Threw some mercury carbon wheels on it and an enve carbon bar, and better saddle. The bike is insane in all conditions I throw at it in UT. The more I ride it the more I like it. Nice review!

    The bike looks like it rides very well. I like the adjustability that the ride 9 offers. I switched out my Rock Shox rear shock to the DVO Topaz. I just couldn’t get it set up how I wanted it. It took about 6 weeks to show up so while I waited I added 2 tokens to the rock shox. It helped to make it more supple off the top but helped prevent it from bottoming out so much. Anyways, thanks for the video Shad.

      Wait?! You can add tokens to the Rock Shox rear shock? Dang! I really need to do that! Just when I thought I was starting to know everything!

    I'm having trouble finding the 12 speed article where even Shimano said when it comes to shifting the rear, the shifter has a greater impact than the derailleur. I also think the 12 speed group sets are much closer in performance than ever before with Shimano. Without looking it up to be sure, I think XT is the biggest jump in shifter performance. You get instant release and double upshift. XTR is much more money for a smaller upgrade from there. XT derailleur upgrade is mainly bearings instead of bushings on the jockey wheels and easier clutch adjustment. I have the Deore groupset on my RAF. Ibis subbed a SLX cassette, I upgraded to SLX cranks and XT shifter. Shifting is flawless. The instant release is my favorite upgrade.

      You are correct. The shifter is where the movement comes from since it is what actuates the cable movement.
      When I say upgrade the derailleur I mean to also update the shifter.
      A derailleur does have some shifting performance also. A nicer derailleur has better springs and stiffer body and cages reducing flex in the system thus making crisper shifts.
      I am also updating to reduce overall weight.

    I had a RM Altitude in 27.5 with the ride9 system as well and just recently went to a Ripmo AF. I’m interested to know if the tire pressure will fix that little squish reaction you spoke about. I noticed that to and always thought that was my frame flex on the RM.

    • @ShadLife
      @ShadLife  2 года назад

      Yeah, I hope it's not frame flex. If it is, this bike is an absolute no go for me. I was going to try it out today with 30 PSI and then I got a flat. So I will keep figuring it out.

      Either way RM’s are great bikes! I’m like you, an older heavier rider who still enjoys to ride! Keep shredding buddy! Old guys rule! 🤙🏽

    I’m coming off a Ripmo af and considering the instinct c50, what is your thoughts on the comparison?

    • @ShadLife
      @ShadLife  2 года назад

      The instinct, which is 27.5 inch wheels in a size small in my case, is a lot more agile than the Ripmo was for me. But my Ripmo as a 29er in size medium.

    What brakes were those on there and would you be interested in selling them?

    • @ShadLife
      @ShadLife  2 года назад

      They are still on there. They are the entry level Shimano Hydraulic 4 piston brakes. They are going to go on my Fat Bike.
