Christmas 1964 Santa brought me 2 Los, Surfer Girl and Shut Down, I still have that photo that my parents to of me holding up those albums. My tops, Surfer Girl, Today, Summer Days and Pet Sounds. I did get a chance to meet The Beach Boys in 1994, chatted with Carl for a bit, gave me a tour of their chartered Jet, his mom was traveling with them on that tour..met them at the Waterbury Oxford Airport in Connecticut when they were doing a show in Hartford..great day! I’m 73 now..been a fan since 1963..

Carl and Dennis are the only Beach Boys I never got the chance to meet. That's so cool that you could see their jet and everything! Sounds like you had a good Xmas back in 1964 as well! Very cool!

In the first show, Brian and Dennis forget their lyrics and start humming... Luckily the second show is much better.

Agreed that the second show is much better! The first one goes off the rails (and not in a fun way.)

I know you dislike the beach Boys doing Louie Louie. Probably the reason it showed up again here is because (and you are too young to know this) the Kingsmen original hit recharted in both 1965 and 1966. The song was played by all the local bands that did high school dances and radio station "sock hops" around the country. Likewise many radio stations was still playing the song. So in 1965 in many markets in the USA it was a Top 10 hit again. This can be found on the ARSA Radio station survey database.

I actually like the live take here better than the unambitious studio one from 1964. Thanks for providing some extra context for the inclusion of the song. I knew it was a big live draw (Jan & Dean even put it in their live set), but I didn't realize it was also such a local phenomenon. Thanks for the great insight!

Among the regular albums : Party !

Party is one of those albums I have to be in just the right mood to actually enjoy it. Honestly, they left the best stuff in the can (but thankfully released it in 2015 for the anniversary collection.)

I love the commentary on Love's 'humor'. He is an odd dude to say the least!
    Thanks again @betamax_blocker

You're not kidding! This release is the best way to see him disassociate from reality for awhile lol

I know I'm part of a niche fanbase, but the digital only releases irks me.

They are frustrating. A nice CD boxset of live performances would be a really fun addition to anyone's collection! But at least they are available in good quality somewhere.

@@betamaxblocker I don't mind the random concert performance as bootleg material, but I draw the line when they release studio outtakes on these releases.

Gotcha- maybe some of the digital only studio stuff will eventually trickle into physical releases. It's happened before! (ex. the "All I Want to Do" demo take being released on the 2022 Sounds of Summer set.)

I don't count the live Chicago release as an album per se. To me it's an authorized bootleg, like those released by the Grateful Dead ("Dick's Picks" and so on) or Humble Pie, or the Pat Travers BBC stuff. The mistakes are part of the charm. As for worst album, anything after the 1985 album will do, but early on I think "Shut Down, Vol. 2" is the worst -- especially considering they had better songs sitting around that they didn't use ("I Do," "Mother May I," etc.). Even the authorized biography (Byron Preiss, 1979) calls side two into question. Nice job on the video, though.

Glad to see another fan of "I Do!" One of my favorites from their early work. Usually I would agree that mistakes add charm to a live show but here they become distracting. I guess if this had been released as "Beach Boys Concert Vol 2" as originally intended then I could easily label it as an album but I see your point that it is sort of like an artificial bootleg but as it gets lumped in with their live discography I decided it was fair game. Glad you liked the video; thanks for the great comment!

When first hearing Beach Boys Live in Chicago I thought and still do, think it’s a good album. Some nice live performances and just a good live album. Really enjoy your channel.

Thanks so much! This one has some neat moments but all of the mistakes and Mike Love's bizarre banter get to me after awhile. Still a great historical document though.

You keep pushing that meaningless piece of paper into our faces for over20 minute. If you want to make a video of the worst BBs album try "15 Big Once".

I remember from my Summer in Paradise video that you really don't like 15 Big Ones! You don't enjoy "It's Ok," "Had to Phone Ya," or even "That Same Song?" And this video is not over 20 minutes long! I only push the paper into your face for approx. 19 min LOL

      😂😂😂, I like "It's OK".
