      5 years later, your comment made me laugh out loud. I got some bad news this week and bought myself a bottle of cognac, had no idea how to drink it, and I do not have a brandy snifter glass like this you tube clip, will have to make do with a shot glass, 😂. Thanks for giving me a chuckle on what has been a right hard day. Happy Thanksgiving!

    This is wrong, the glass to cognac ratio is all off. It’s supposed to be where if you move the glass some will spill... meaning all the way full 😏

    I’m just pour it from the bottle while the glass is on the table sideways. Why are you pouring multiple times and checking the volume?

    As some others have mentioned, the snifter -- although acceptable for cognac -- isn't ideal. The snifter is more-properly used for brandy, and the tulip glass for cognac. See: This Cognac Costs More Than A Toyota If you like cognac over ice, of course, then an on-the-rocks glass will be the ideal choice. Some cognacs are being blended specifically to be enjoyed over ice, even direct from the freezer, nowadays. The "old ideal" of an evening cognac and cigar by the fireplace isn't the only way.

    Can anyone explain how you keep the liquor from running down the neck of the bottle when you're done pouring? This happens to me every time

    What ounce size is the glass you used?

  • @edwardbates739
    @edwardbates739 10 лет назад +10

    Sorry to disagree, apart from the fact that you are using a very basic expression of Cognac, but this is NOT the way to serve Cognac. The volume of air in the glass is too high. This leads to much volatile alcohol on the nose. In Cognac the smaller tulip glass is almost exclusively used by Cognac producers themselves. And before you ask, yse I do know what I'm talking about and no, I'm not new to the subject.

    • @NoClueHowTo
      @NoClueHowTo  10 лет назад

      Thanks For The Feedback, First, No More Than 3 oz. Should Be Poured. This Method Will Yield About That Much. Second, I Would Leave The Brandy Under The Candle For No More Than 10 Seconds. Hands Work Best. Have a Nice Day.

    • @lancehobbs8012

      oh come on Im drinking VS right now after some other drinks and if yeah it smells a *little* different to the VSOP and the XO its really not hundreds of dollars difference (dont know what it cots in other countries but in Australia to go up to the Henny' XO is about $230 compared to VS for about $60
      assuming you where being sarcastic (hard to tell in writing) where are u from may I ask that VS is considered a little déclassé? Also for half the price of the XO you can get a proper Armagnac (Chabot , Napoleon )which to me is better than even the XO Heny, its less nightclub candy flavour and more old world aged booze from a copper still and barrel flavour, if that makes sense. Ok so it doesnt make sense but if you have only tried Cognac (Henny, Remmy, whatever) , go try an Armagnac like Chabot . Its like going from a nice Heineken to a really good interesting small batch craft beer made by old German immigrants or something like that

      Patrick Bateman I'm in the UK. No the whole thing lacks class and knowledge (lowest denominator of cognac, wrong glass, wrong pour and a "shot" etc). Subjectivity of taste aside, there is a world of difference between a VS and an XO. The subtIeties are huge. All the right things have to be in place. it's a ritual, a dance. you don't spark up a Cohiba at the bus stop in the rain. I couldn't drink a VS, it tastes likes methalated spirit to me, nor does it have any nose or anything on the palette other than ethanol and very basic generic cognac flavour. The main reason for this is age, or lack of in a VS, and that it's produced for mixing and cocktails, due to its lack of complexity. Hine vsop or xo is cheaper and much much better. The vsop is as good if not better than the Hennessey XO IMHO. Hennessey is over rated, they have a big marketing budget. Try a Glenmorangie 10 whisky instead. Or Hine rare VSOP. If you just want to get pissed then a Vs is absolutely fine. if you want to experience the subtleties of cognac then no. But that said, i would start with VS so you can correlate.

    • @lancehobbs8012
      @lancehobbs8012 7 лет назад

      I DO spark Cubans sometimes on the way back fom the gym , but not Cohibas i like Romeo&Julieta they are every bit as good and much better value. Men still get mesmerized and scammed by brands just like our wives do with brand name handbags :) Also the "subtlties" between XO and VSOP are by their nature very subtle and slight as I said. One simply cannot have huge differences in subtleties . Anyway I o love the Glenmorangie in terms of Scotch so we agree on that , and Hine cognac you say? Thanks for the tip I havent tried it, i will give it a pour!
