First time I heard them was talk talk the single and thought yeah just another poppy new romantic band and in a year they will be gone. I was very wrong they just got better and better. RIP Mark.
Exactly, read numerous biographies before and after his death, very high IQ plus Emotional Quotient, was overwhelmed with émotions, rejected his popularity, a tornado within his heart, soûl...Thats why he retired secluded with his beloved wife and 2 children. Forever
Greatest underrated band & singer indeed! Still love their music Mark Hollis has one hell of a voice! Ty’s for all he gave & left us with to enjoy years later! Rip gently 🙏👍❤️🎼
Once in a lifetime a band like talk talk will come a long ive loved this band since early 80s still one of the best bands to come out of this country Hollis Harris and webb what a band
This poignant song was written for his brother Ed who died after years of heroin abuse. Lyrics are telling Mark's despair in trying to understand why Ed needed that shit and all the pain he felt seeing his brother in those conditions.
Thanks for this sordid private tragedy unknown by most French admirers like me who even own his apology of silence as a therapy for over emotional people like him, so fragile but hypermnesic, his solo album entitled MARK HOLLIS. Seeing them in concert in 1986 in Mulhouse is still giving me goosepimples, I envy his mourning wife, who knew him better ...RIP
Absolute genius. I miss Talk Talk so much- saw them live back in 1986 in Buffalo, NY and it was an amazing, emotional show. Perhaps Mark and Tim stopped when they realized they couldn't keep up the same intensity for future albums. The fact that they made the albums they did is amazing and a feat that many, many artists could never achieve. Indeed, they did invent a genre of music that has influenced many and I am thankful we have the music we do... and some extra solo work as well.
ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SONGS OF ALL TIME ... GENIUS! Hear it in my spirit I've seen heroin for myself On the street so young laying wasted Enough ain't it enough Crippled world I just can't bring myself to see it starting Tell me how I fear it I buy prejudice for my health Is it worth so much when you taste it? Enough there ain't enough hidden hurt A time to sell yourself A time for passing Spirit How long? Spirit
Salutations Hollissiennes !
cant help but listen to this song gets me thinking ,about everything every one,the good the bad only talk talk can do this to me good music never dies,
A band that was way ahead of their time. I notice this trend in bands/artists that are not disturbed by external factors such as, doing what's required, following the trend of the day, aware but not affected by what's going on in the world. Once u know the truth of the matter, its interesting to know others' views on the same matter.
Funny how many people can't recognise the radio edited studio version of this track. But you gotta love Hollis' silent protest against play back by just using the guitar as an armrest.
Dear javier, when many Talk Talk fans grew impatient because they worked so long on the Colour of Spring album, Mark Hollis gave an interview that he wanted to create an album for eternity... We both believe he has totally succeeded, don't we?
Awesome song a rare version indeed great upload thanks much appreciated still love this fabulous artist rip blessed Mark for all these gems u gave & still do!! 👍❤️☮️🙏
talk talk got better as time passed. ilove all their stuff. have every album. this particular song is beautiful. hollis's voice is incredible. talk talk were a superb band, greatly under-rated. wish they would re-form.
Tindersticks. Big fan of Talk Talk since my teens in the early 80's. After seeing this vid of Mark and the band this maybe explains why one of my fav, bands are The Tindersticks.
ive got lifes what you make it on my phone, when it goes off people look and try to work it out who sings it,i told a young kid he said the phone company, i said yes ,didnt want to hurt his feelings ahhhh bless him ,he told me he had emiem on his phoned i said never mind youll learn one day the true meaning of music i said go back a few years to the 80s,he looked at me and said you must be really old,i bit my lip and went home,
Wow man what a statement! You took the words right out of my mouth, well you didn't, but you said it better haha! "Spirit of Eden" and "Colo/ur of Spring" are just the most amazing sounds I know. Further out than Floyd! :o)
Most like an obligatory performance by their record company as it just does not make any sense to perform such beautiful piece of music in a prime time show with people who are more interested in the looks of the presenting lady......such a shame. Unfortunately only a few people are able to understand the masterpiece.
Totally true. He never even wanted this to be a single. Lipsynching to it must have been hell revisited (from making the video, which he also apparently hates). I enjoy seeing him though. He looks 180 degrees from his appearances in '84, '85. No long hair, no sunglasses, etc.
Mindy Su Sorry Mindy, but you're just another Groupie that knows nothing, and no one. You care more about his looks than his gift for conveying something tender and beautiful through music. Yes, you're what James Elias said.
TALK TALK, MELHOR BANDA... MARK HOLLIS, NOSSO GÊNIO, VOZ DELICIOSA DE OUVIR... TIVE O PRIVILÉGIO DE PASSAR MINHA ADOLESCÊNCIA OUVINDO E ATÉ HJ. FAZ PARTE DOS MEUS DIAS... AMOOOO 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 JAÚ/SP 16/04/2022😍😍😍😍
but the Beatles never abandoned their top 40 popular music sound. Talk Talk on the other hand completely abandoned mainstream music and went unconventional with their ambient jazz textured sound. Some truly beautiful music they made and even though I like their New Wave stuff too it's a shame they quit just as they were getting more interesting.
@rulinghabs Got the end of what Hollis wanted to do, I guess. Couldn't make music that was commercial enough for record companies. This song is so timeless.
No other singer can match Mark's OUTSTANDING voice. RIP to a legend. Music died the day he left us........
You've got that right!!!
I miss Hollis' sexy voice⚘😔
Unique in every way. Mark David Hollis, you are still the best songwriter. No one has compared to you yet!
Absolutely true!
This guy and the band never got the recognition they deserved, brilliant and original.
I wouldn't say that, every day there are people who discover gems like this one and truly appreciate it.
I agree with the original comment
Jesus....I can't believe this exists.... Probably the most precious thing in you tube. Look at how much he believes it.....
Goosebumps every time I hear Mark Hollis sing. So sad that he has left us. So greatful for everything he shared with the world. R.I.P.
RIP Mark Hollis⚘
Probably no other band in Modern history has pulled off such a drastic change in musical direction and gained fans almost 20 years after the fact.
yes, so true...
First time I heard them was talk talk the single and thought yeah just another poppy new romantic band and in a year they will be gone. I was very wrong they just got better and better. RIP Mark.
How come they decided to become a trio only.
Amazing so much put into every song ...
Exactly, read numerous biographies before and after his death, very high IQ plus Emotional Quotient, was overwhelmed with émotions, rejected his popularity, a tornado within his heart, soûl...Thats why he retired secluded with his beloved wife and 2 children. Forever
Mark Hollis is simply brilliant. Timeless.
His solo album is a revelation.
what an incredible song this is. talk talk are one of the most under-rated bands in music history.
When the organ comes in, just gets me every time. absolutely epic.
still one of the best bands to come out of england pisses all over todays music, even my kids like talk talk teach em well
stunning. spirit of eden and laughing stock are two of the rare albums i'd class as flawless.
Greatest underrated band & singer indeed! Still love their music Mark Hollis has one hell of a voice! Ty’s for all he gave & left us with to enjoy years later! Rip gently 🙏👍❤️🎼
🥲
Voce,suoni tutto straordinario.... grande Mark

Living in another world from the 3rd album was touching this tragedy too ? Without his glasses he looks both desperate and solemn
Belle chanson. Merci.
Imagine being in that audience! Goosebumps!

Hear it in my spirit
I've seen heroin for myself
On the street so young laying wasted

spirit of Talk Talk ...!!!!! my best song !!!
Funny how many people can't recognise the radio edited studio version of this track. But you gotta love Hollis' silent protest against play back by just using the guitar as an armrest.
Pure brilliance.......agonizingly AWESOME. R.I.P. Mark Hollis.
the best song of all times..........
Dear javier, when many Talk Talk fans grew impatient because they worked so long on the Colour of Spring album, Mark Hollis gave an interview that he wanted to create an album for eternity... We both believe he has totally succeeded, don't we?
bonafide music listeners need talk talk in this day and age.

Awesome song a rare version indeed great upload thanks much appreciated still love this fabulous artist rip blessed Mark for all these gems u gave & still do!! 👍❤️☮️🙏
It's mimed. It's just a playback of the studio track. Talk Talk never performed any of the tracks from Spirit of Eden or Laughing Stock live
From the time that music was real music (with melodie) and no talkings (like today)..
talk talk got better as time passed. ilove all their stuff. have every album. this particular song is beautiful. hollis's voice is incredible. talk talk were a superb band, greatly under-rated. wish they would re-form.

Eyes shut to the floor. This is the last Tv show for Talk Talk. Superb album but commercial breakdown.

That sounds so very beautiful!!!
On eof my fav. songs -Mark i love you for this great career
I love this song, it’s simplicity is awesome!

Czytałem że poezja łączy świat materialny z duchowym. Od tego kawałka to poczułem.
Just perfect in every way...

No UK band in the 1980's came close to Talk Talk! No UK band EVER will!
Awesome, awesome, awesome! Thanks so much for this...
Essence of true creativity , Way ahead of their time.
Wonderful!!
Mark 💗
thanks for posting!
its about time mark hollis/talk talk were in the music hall of fame.
Sublime.

Unfortunately only a few people are able to understand the masterpiece.
+Rob van der Kroon You nailed it. Hollis clearly doesn't want to be there.
+Rob van der Kroon and it's a lip synch, at least by the musicians
Totally true. He never even wanted this to be a single. Lipsynching to it must have been hell revisited (from making the video, which he also apparently hates). I enjoy seeing him though. He looks 180 degrees from his appearances in '84, '85. No long hair, no sunglasses, etc.

Short hair, no sunglasses but same awesome voice !
Talk Talk hymn.
definitely a precursor of the post rock genre, the last two Talk Talk Albums are worth listening too.

My favorite Talk Talk song . I recently found out it is about his brother. Now Mark is also dead.
