Got lucky to just glide down in close proximity. The 3s is a good idea if it could handle it. After ur flights I will NOT go 3S. Although i did order a larger heavier stronger 2s @ 1000mah and questionable cc. But hey man... Ur flight was worth it. Kudos big man Kudos from the team! Luv ur content!
Thank You! I was fortunate I had the altitude and was close enough to make the dirt lane deadstick when the motor quit. It would most likely have suffered some damage going down in that Desert scrub. I was a bit surprised it couldn't handle a 3S given it doesn't seem to be turning that many RPMs on 2S. It's a brushless inrunner so it doesn't have much torque. The airframe is very good IMO so I have a 3S-4S XFly 40mm EDF Unit on order. If it turns out to be too heavy with that EDF I'll convert it to a pusher motor and prop on 3S and do some cloud busting ;-)

Yes, I assumed either the motor, esc, or both would provide some magic smoke on 3S and I wasn't disappointed ;-) I did receive the new XFly Galaxy 40mm EDF Unit and it looks fantastic but at 40g it's much heavier than the stock unit. @@tinkerzlab Good day Tony, my motor also stopped working but with the 2s battery still so I bought a new 35mm EDF and a 30A esc but I presume the protocol is different between the esc and flight controller. @@jtpienaar5719 Sorry to hear you had issues with your motor as well especially if you were just using a 2S LIPO. I'm not sure what you mean when you say update the protocol on the flight controller? I can tell you what I'm attempting with mine. I'm replacing the flight controller, ESC, and EDF on mine to try and make it a 3S EDF Jet. I'm installing a Radiolink Byme-D Gyro, RadioMaster SBUS RX, 20A ESC, and XFly 40mm 3S-4S EDF Unit. It's pretty involved as far as the MODs. If your going to operate your replacement EDF on 2S I would continue to use the stock ESC.
@@tinkerzlab Hi Tony, my stock motor just jitters when applying throttle so I dont know if it is esc or motor so I bought both new ones. I dont know if the stock ESC will be able to handle the new power required from the new motor. as per supplier the motor peak ampere is 22. I plugged in the 30A ESC with new motor on the stock flight controller but when I apply throttle nothing happens, so hence I was thinking maybe its down to protocol issue between the ESC and the flight controller. I am a nooby when it comes to the technical stuff regarding electronics haha so my assumptions can be wrong.
I also message the supplier of the FX9631 to get some information from the manufacturer regarding the ESC and motor but no luck, they can only supply the stock motor and ESC, I need to change so why not upgrade while I am busy with it 😀
If all you had to do was replace the motor and nothing else Tony, I'd say you made out pretty good !! Also it's odd that they didn't make an easier access to the EDF unit without slicing up a lot of foam don't you think ?
I had already replaced the board and ESC. The Motor and Servos were the only components still Stock. They certainly don't make these RTF Planes easy to repair or modify but having a Brushless Sub-250g EDF Jet with plenty of power would be epic ;-)

Yes, it's a shame the motor didn't last for a couple of complete flights as it would have been fun. The motor completely locked up there at the end.
