  • In this video I clean the old grease from my rear wheel bearings on my MK2 Vauxhall Cavalier and replace with new and adjusted up the wheel bearing to the correct specified tightness. Some of the procedures will apply to most other cars that use the roller taper bearing design please lookup your specific tightening sequence for your vehicle to prevent excessive ware and heat buildup.

Nicely done Steve and pretty much how I used to do mine, I always used to torque the bearings down but never have done that to the wheel nuts even though you should really do it as it makes them easier to get off if you are on the side of the road changing a flat, ask me how I know but did I learn... NOPE!! 😭😂 Thanks for doing these vids mate as it takes me back to the good old days 👏🙏👍

Your welcome John, yes I always torque the wheel bolts up I always do them way to tight, but as you say it does make them so easy to undo with a smaller wheel brace. I’m glad you get some entertainment with these though. Cheers mate. See you in the next one.

Ha Steve, good video mate, It's been a few years since I've done a car wheel bearings but they are very similar to a lot of plant i used to repair.
I have always tightened them up to a certain toque, then backed off until they spin freely with no play, I notice you still had a little play, is that's what's recommended? , I know you were looking for movement in the washer which i presume is something that's recommended?, cheers mate 👍

Thanks Pete, honestly I’m not sure, I don’t like the play either, the manual does say tighten to a specified torque then loosen the nut until you can move the thrust washer without levering it, I suppose it’s like the flexible hoses on 15mm plumbing you hand tighten those and not use a tool that doesn’t seem right to me 😁 maybe this is one of those tighten it up until there is no lateral play. I honestly was surprised to see the amount of play still in the wheel the first side is better than it was. I assume you would have tightened the nut (by hand) until there is no play in it? Cheers Pete as always I appreciate your thoughts on this.
