    Thanks for making this look so easy! Everyone seems to insist on mini PCs for Plex servers, but our home’s Apple-bound, so I’m eager to create a home music server within a familiar OS.

    I'm thinking about getting one or these and doing the drive upgrade. Wondering of this setup has any trouble running a single 4k stream or two simultaneous 1080p streams. Thanks!

    Hi! Great instructions but i want to know witch version of Apple system you instal on your mini 2014. I can't install the latest one from Plex because i still work with Sierra and Final Cut 7 for old editing and Aperture 3.6. Unfortunately my Final Cut studio won't function with High Sierra. Thanks in advance for a response. ;-)

    Hi Chris - I’m off topic here sorry. What would a flashing folder sign mean after a reboot with my old SSD, new ram and battery in a donated Mac Book Pro - help needed please

    • @FamilyGeekery
      @FamilyGeekery  2 года назад

      Flashing folder usually means the computer can’t find an operating system on the disk drive.

      @@FamilyGeekery Ok, thanks, I managed to get it up and running and have another question if that’s OK.
      When I close the machine , it completely shuts down rather than going into sleep mode ? Any idea why that would happen ?
      So then it requires a full boot up each time, and then several programs, mainly Microsoft like word, XL, etc and also Spotify try to load on top of each other, which then have to be closed before I start to use the machine.
      Any help much appreciated, and Merry Christmas from New Zealand

      You can try resetting the SMC. Just Google that, and you should find a keyboard combination to try at boot to reset it.
      And Merry Christmas to you too! (You’ll be opening presents many hours before me, lol)

    How many drives do you have in your Plex? One or two?

    • @FamilyGeekery

      In the Mac mini I just had 1 drive. You can use externals also, of course. But I recently upgraded to a Lincplus Lincstation, which I reviewed on my channel.

    I have a question, that I hope is not silly. Can my Mac mini act as both a Plex server and home server at the same time?

    • @FamilyGeekery
      @FamilyGeekery  2 года назад +3

      Sure. The Plex server is only really active when it’s transcoding and streaming content to users. So it’s idle most of the time. Thanks for watching!

    Does my Drive need be named "Media" I'm having issues setting up the library. It keeps on saying settings not saved. I have made my movies properly with the year name.

    • @FamilyGeekery
      @FamilyGeekery  Год назад +1

      You shouldn’t need to name the drive anything in particular.

      @@FamilyGeekery Thanks for your reply. I'm not able to select an external hard drive for some reason now. I'm not sure if there is another setting I am missing.

    Thanks for the video! Does sleep mode need to be disabled on the computer? I was thinking about running this on my main computer, but wondered what happens when it goes to sleep.

      I have the power savings settings turned off. These mini’s don’t use a ton of power to begin with. So I’m honestly not sure what would happen if it went to sleep. Thanks for watching!
