    Shouldn't we take in consideration the stiffness of the mono instead of the diameter and breaking strenght??!!

    Do you ever use a micro barrel swivel going to your tippet section to help with line twist?

      I have some that I am going to try out. I have fished with a couple of people that love them, but I was fishing with someone who lost a nice redfish when the swivel broke so there's that.

    For a sinking line I’m curious why would wouldn’t just use Fluro for a leader as it sinks also.. I’m fairly new to the fly fishing side of bass fishing, just trying to learn the in and outs .. You have a lot of good info

    • @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing
      @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes flouro would help. It should be more abrasion resistant as well. Still want to keep it short though.

    Hey there, .. been watching your videos for a bit...
    I must have spent a fortune on tapered leaders in my life… so I stopped buying them and I make my own…. And they're the way I want them, not what you get from pre-made leaders…heres the the problem…. I have way too many leaders... Either for salt or fresh…. This is what happens when you a couple thousand miles of mono of various strenghts and diameters…. 🤣🤣🤣

    • @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing

    What was the diameter for the 20 lb amd 30lb? Also, which leader would you use for an intermediate sinking line?

    Is the Orvis mono similar to the Mason hard mono? I use to use the Mason for saltwater fishing.

    • @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing
      @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing  18 часов назад

      It's not quite as stiff as the Mason hard mono but not as soft as the Mason soft.

  • @govbradford

    Whats the disadvantage by eliminating the butt section. Just run 20 lbs test for all 8 feet? Does it not cast properly or is it easier to just replace the tippet?

    • @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing
      @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing  5 месяцев назад

      The butt section helps turn over bigger flies. It will be harder to get the leader to straighten out if you just use 20 lb. Not impossible but harder.

    • @jaaron2834
      @jaaron2834 5 месяцев назад +1

      There has to be a balance... you need the thick butt section to carry the weight on that big fly from butt to tippet. It's just the laws of physics... Not rocket science….you’ll get it… 👍😎👌

    Here's my question, I use 30 lb butt section to 20lb fluorocarbon tippet, the entire length is usually around 5-6ft, longer for floating line and shorter for sinking, think that would be alright?
