This is a fantastic break-down. I don't sell on Mercari, but I DO buy relatively often, and this change to buyer fees has made me completely peace-out of this website/app. A seller offered me $70 on a fragrance, and with the item + taxes + shipping + buyer fee + processing fee, my total on a $70 item suddenly came to NINTETY SIX and change!! NO THANK YOU!!!
@@beckyparkco I feel like there could have been a happy medium struck between buyer fees and seller fees, and I could have stomached that, saying to myself, "Fair enough!" But whoever thought of this payment / fee structure should absolutely be fired, along with the person who green-lighted it. I'm really interested to see what happens to Mercari this quarter and next quarter, and I hope to see some of the sellers making an exodus to eBay and Poshmark.
And to be completely fair to buyers, too - that "you can return anything for any reason" policy is also garbage (and that's coming from a buyer-only perspective).
@@vlakieste I couldn’t agree with you more. I also made a comment on this video sharing a purchase I made recently. I was completely caught off-guard after receiving the buyer fee, and processing fee that added $20 on top of the tax and shipping. You are absolutely right…whoever greenlit this policy should have their head examined. It’s too bad. Mercari was one of my top 3 go to shop sites.
@@vlakieste There is no happy medium. The 3rd party authentication Mercari added, has taken over and won't let anyone post anything unless it's authenticated. The problem is there is no possible way to get anything authenticated because this company made it impossible to get anything Authenticated
I am strictly a buyer on Mercari, but I will no longer be buying anything from Mercari. I just cancelled a purchase because my $10 item had $2.57 in fees added to my invoice. This is the breakdown: $10 for item, $6.99 shipping, $1.50 Service Fee, $1.07 Processing Fee and $1.27 Sales Tax = $20.83. Mercari just killed their golden goose. No other platforms have fees, so why should we buy from Mercari? And if the other platforms try it, there is always Facebook Market place, Offer-Up, etc. where we could pick up items in person, and not pay shipping or sales tax, and no fees. With higher shipping costs, on-line platforms are on treading on shaky ground, so this Mercari move is really stupid. It made a lot of money last year, so this is just corporate greed.
I hate this for my and everyone else's buyers!! Yall see something u really want and then go to checkout and Mercari hits you with a nearly 25% markup!!!
Yeah as a seller, I probably won't change any habits on mercari, but as a buyer? I'll definitely shop around. Adding all those extra fees sometimes makes it not even worth it to buy secondhand.
Yeah, I’m avoiding Mercari for big purchase items now. I was shocked to be charged nearly $20 on a processing fee, plus a service fee, then add Tax, plus shipping fees. All for an item I bought for under $100. First of all…it’s the sellers that are trying to make the money and using a platform to attract buyers. Well…nothing attractive about a 25% hidden Mark-up you were not expecting. For what? So sellers don’t have to pay fees for a platform They need? Unless it’s a GREAT deal, in brand new condition, with free shipping, I’ll steer clear of Mercari for sure. What genius decided that this was a great idea?
As a buyer only on Mercari I can say the fees on some higher priced items I’ve bought have discouraged me and I’ve gone to other places instead. I understand they have to make money but it seems to high and can drastically change a price from fair to bad
I’m beyond disappointed in Mercari! I used to love to buy and sell on this platform BUT now it’s ridiculous, crazy processing fees for used items on top of tax, shipping, etc. These fees need to be split among buyers and sellers
Taxes go to the city, state, and Federal government. It's not profit. Shipping goes to the shippng partner, it's not profit. Mercari doesn't keep that money. How are they "double dipping"???
@@lorettabuza3319buyer now pays for “Service Fee” and “Payment processing fee” if you purchase something from $50-$70 it’s about $6 for both fees on top of the Cost of the item and shipping(varies if it’s not free) and Plus the Tax??? If you purchase something from $100+ you are looking at $10+ on the “Service and Processing fee”
I think it’s not smart for Mercari to make these changes. However, I sell very little on there anyway, so I’m leaving my listings. I just won’t deposit often. Great video (again)! Also, “That Thing You Do” is one I can watch every day!
It was the change to returns that did it for me. I’ve been selling online for probably 15+ yrs and I’ve been burned by so many eBay/Amazon customers - I primarily sell on Posh for that reason. I’ve literally had to report customers for mail fraud bc eBay wouldn’t take any other action (ex: customer opens a return for a $300 wallet - then takes the time to pad and seal an empty box) - shocking how many scammers are out there.
It sounds like you’ve had some awful experiences. I’m so sorry 😩 Thankfully, I think I’ve only had one that really kept me up at night-hoping it stays that way! But yes-there are too many people that use their intelligence for evil 😬
@@Mari-hb4cwI was just thinking that. I definitely will do this. Let's see if it gets anybody anywhere though...and I would definitely report anyone for fraud
@Mari-hb4cw I wanted to record the worker at the post office handing me the package on video and then open it up at the post office immediately to see what is inside of it. The postmaster came out and wouldn't allow me to do it. Long story short I did it anyway.
As far as I know there is, in addition to the payment processing fee, a service fee charged to the buyer on Mercari. The examples I have seen is 10%. So the buyer pays a non refundable payment processing fee ( even if item is returned), a service fee ( about 10%), shipping and taxes.
@@livinglushly4597 the fee is based on a % of the price of the item, the buyer now PAYS the seller’s fee on the item. So you could offer a discount splitting the difference of fee to the buyer. If they return the item, they doNOT receive back the processing fee. But I believe reading that Mercari pays the return shipping. You need to ship through Mercari for their protection.
I agree about the fees. I think it totally deters buyers. I feel like as a seller, you expect to pay fees and factor it into the price. So the 2% should be charged to them and the .50 processing fee to the buyer because its not enough to drive people away
I plan to stay on Mercari. The thing is, sellers can lower their prices over there now so a lot of the cost to buyers will probably remain the same in the end. I know I’m lowering my prices by about 20% from what I have them listed for on Poshmark.
I used to sell but i pulled out two years ago im glad i did. But as a buyer i found something i liked but all the fees at checkout the raised the item from $559 with shipping to $669 with shipping. That scared me from buying it i plan to drive to another state for it.
Just Found ANOTHER MERCARI SELLER SCAM! BEWARE “Free Shipping” .. I Just Created {7} New Ads, LOWERING the Buyer’s Obligation by Offering FREE Shipping .. {ALL ADS @ 3 Pounds - UPS Showed $7.99} .. at the Bottom Where I Added My Selling Price - I WAS CHARGED $15.99 FOR THE SHIPPING CHARGE! .. YET ANOTHER SCAM TO COVER THEIR LYING AZZES!
I had 6-8 sales after the change. I was worried about the returns, but I got a 5 star from everyone & everything went smoothly so I’m continuing to do what I’m doing!
The Nurse Flipper had a Lot of money in her Mercari account , this was before the changes, and they decided she’d done something wrong but wouldn’t tell her what it was. So they HELD her money hostage. THAT is the problem with leaving your money in their account.
Wow no wonder I haven’t had any sales at all since they changed their policies. I use to have sales literally everyday and now nothing. Ok I’m done with Mecari now.
I planned my whole day to relist my mercari listings. I just got banned for a regular audio CD I re-listed.. Said I violated their policy and I'm not allowed to sell drugs on the site. Gets stupider everyday. So sick of Merc BS and I hardly sell a thing anymore.
It's crazy the uproar over the $2 fee when, unless you are making less than $20, the $2 is less than the 10% seller fee that was charged. So if you sell $100 a week you now get $98 back verse $90. That seems like a pretty big win. Also, 3 days for a buyer to return is pretty short compared to 30 days on eBay like you mentioned. Sure maybe a scammy person will take advantage once in a blue moon but over all probably not. One suggestion I saw from another big Mercari reseller is they switched to free shipping to help offset the buyer paying the fee. And the numbers were roughly the same as prior to when the seller had to pay 10% fee and buyer paid shipping.
These are all such amazing points. Your math when it comes to the $2 ACH fee compared to the old selling fee is on point. And yes; I could see offering free shipping on more items to entice buyers. Thank you for sharing!
This is exactly what I was going to say. Withdrawing Under $20 - you’re losing. $20 - it’s the same as it would be with the 10% fee. $21 and over- you’re starting to make more money than you would have with the fee.
The thing about offering free shipping though...what happens if the buyer wants a free return? I think the jury is still out on how that's going to work because how will Mercari know what label to send the buyer if you bought your own shipping outside of the Mercari system?
Offering free shipping is a great idea. You're still getting the same or higher return as when there were fees but you lower the buyers cost. I wonder if they ship through Mercari or on their own? Can you tag the video you saw that in? I'd really appreciate it👍🏼
You lost protection when you pay for the shipping. Because a scam buyer can say they didn't get the item. Not only that but when I paid for shipping it was literally triple the cost compared to when it's charged to the buyer.
Huge downfall with these changes is now you have to take all returns even if its clearly stated in the listing as poor condition, parts or repair etc. This was why I left Feebay years ago for Mercari.
I hate all the fees, but like you you I already have it all posted I am not changing it. I have actually gotten a few more sells the last few weeks than I have in a while.
In addition to the 2.9% payment processing fee, buyers also pay an undisclosed service fee at checkout which varies depending on cost of item purchased and category and could be as much as 10%.
@sublime90 Yep. The way I see it, sellers will have to lower their prices to offset the fees the buyer now pays or they will buy elsewhere. So, either way, the seller takes the hit.. no selling fees to Mercari but we pay the buyer the equivalent amount in reduced selling prices, on top of the typical 20-25% offers we get.p
I only just discovered Mercari within the last couple of weeks so while I feel that pain point of the fees on top of the shipping and taxes, I imagine I would feel it even more if I had been buying on Mercari before the fee change took place and now was feeling that difference. There's been several times I thought about buying something but once I got to my cart and saw what it was really going to cost me, I bailed. I only see myself buying certain discontinued items I want from Mercari in the future.
As seller i dont mind the $2 charge . I just concerned buyer need to pay extra fees my sales is down . Now i listed in free shipping still not much sale
This is killing my sales. I used to make 2-3 sales a week which is good for me compared to what I used to make on Poshmark. Its been about 2 1/2 weeks since the fee shift and i've made two sales. Selling fees are a necessary evil and i accept that and it is what it is. I don't mind paying them as long as the platform is doing their part to keep buyers coming in. A lot of sellers have left Mercari now. Which is a good and bad thing. But i can't see sales on Mercari going up any time soon.
Today is Saturday. I finally had time to open Poshmark & Mercari. It took me about an hour to open an account. I listed a Moncler coat, two pairs of Tory Burch shoes, and a pair of earrings. After 6 or 7 hours later and I received a message saying that my account was closed. I don’t know why. I have to wait until next Monday to call them and find out, it’s so annoying, and I will open up eBay account tomorrow.
I’m about to start selling on Mercari thinking it’s good deal I don’t have to pay seller fee but I’m concern buyers will not shop there anymore cause so many fees. I might want to start with Etsy.
6:08 facts..I'd rather pay $2 then $5! 10:56 yes..I'm out my thoughts exactly 17:19 facts..thank you and I appreciate it..have a blessed productive day
I do about 3-5 sales a day on Poshmark and EBay… on Mercari, I’ve had 2 sales total… since Thanksgiving… Mercari is totally dead for me. Same items and even lower prices and still dead.
“I quit” That Thing You Do! 😍 Wow, I loved that movie! I’m sticking with Mercari. $2 fee isn’t bad. I too don’t take out money right away. The only thing I’m worried about are the returns. I sell a lot of newer clothing and shoes. But I’ll stick it out and see how it goes.
We are now best friends. I love that movie too! Yeah, I think it’s just most logical to stay with it and see what happens. Worst thing that could happen is a bad return or two.
I don’t mind the $2 fee but that isn’t the only issue with their changes. The fees are utterly destructive for higher $ items and this hurts the buyer & seller. I also don’t recommend any seller leaving their money on the platform once the balance gets over more than an amount you’re comfortable losing, simply because of some of the random things I’ve seen them do. I’ve been selling on the platform a couple years and my net for 2023 was just under $8k. My sales have stayed steady through the transition and I’m going to keep selling. However, I don’t think Mercari made a smart move. I do suggest you check out the fees charged to buyers though. If you compare like items-same price & same shipping-the fees charged are different. Are they using some sort of dynamic fee schedule? I’m trying to figure it out 🤷♀️
Mercari seems to attract poor and broke buyers causing sellers to just change platforms. There is no distinguishment between new and used, collectibles or antique items. It's ridiculous.
The stores in my area have been charging $2 to $2.50 when getting cash back from a purchase made with a debit card. So the $2 charge doesn't seem extreme.
Buyers need to like an item and then sellers need to offset the buyers fee by offering a lower price. Its all business. Sellers raise your item a few bucks so you can lower it a few bucks for buyer. Its a mind thing. Just like people are more likely to buy an item at 19.99 instead of 20.00. its how our human brains think.
I take my money out because Mercari took $100 dollars from me when I first started on Mercari. I can not get them to answer as to where my money is from a sale of a piece of art work that sold and my income should have been $100 can not get an answer at all. I do not agree with paying taxes on used items . The tax has already been collected by the original sale.
I dropped all my prices by 10 percent, just to get into the new program. Then I went through all of my listings that any one every liked and dropped the prices again. Since I only list my "losers" on Mercari, the ones I couldn't sell on ebay or any other site I use it like a yard sale without all the heavy lifting. Doing this has doubled my sales. I don't sell high brand stuff, It's low Walmart brand, stuff I have a thrift store where a cart full is 20.00 so that's my mercari stuff. I am glad that they made the changes. If you watch some of the utuber's from England you would understand why they did this. While the prices are lower the quantity of sells is higher.
I generally get the lowest of low ballers on Mercari and thats who shops there so I don’t know if this will benefit Mercari with the buyers having to pay more fees. Even if the buyer lowers the price the low ballers will still psychologically think they are paying too much
There was a video a few days ago and they were all excited about no seller fees. I said it wasn't something to get excited about. My daughter was going to buy a pair of shoes, she's a big Mercari buyer. But her 25.00 shoes ended up being over 40.00. She passed. As a seller, I think I'm going to start pulling from Mercari.
Mercari has done this to force sellers to bring their prices down to that of a garage or yard sale no matter what the market value is. I'm not selling something I bought for $150 brand new for $15 dollars I'm just not going to do it. I have deleted a lot of really good stuff and sold it on craigslist. Mercari is not for nice expensive items unless the buyer really knows what it is and they want it. My sales were booming when Trump was president.
At first I thought the change was great as a reseller. Then I was reading how upset people were getting over the changes. Then I took a moment to think for my own situation. I have taken returns back on ebay, so it's not a big deal to accept a return on Mercari . As far as to help the buyer I am still listing at a slightly higher price to give me wiggle room to give the buyer a better discount and help them with fees. ( I base it usually on if it sold the item poshmark after fees) As far as the ACH, I usually cash out as soon as paid, but now I will let money accumulate before transferring. As with all change we all adapt. Good Luck with your Sales Becky!
Well, I think I’ve decided today. Everything I have is just donated. I’m done. But I’m not a big seller. I was just getting rid of my own belongings, but I’ve been on Mercari for a while and it’s been fun.
That’s fair, especially if it’s just your own stuff, not stuff that you purchased for the sole purpose of reselling. The silver lining is, someone is going to get some great stuff from your thrift store soon!
Has anyone had a bunch of returns opened on mercari since the changes? I had over 600 sales on mercari with only one return approved and since the changes, I've made 6 sales and 2 already have returns opened. One for fit, and the other one where the buyer said I sent her the wrong item but the item she showed is a pair of pants I've never seen in my life and a brand I never sell. So I guess I'm about to get scammed. As soon as that return gets processed I'm probably going to shut down my store. If the platform is going to have this many returns and scams going forward then it's not worth my time. Even if mercari protects me in this case I'm probably still going to shut it down since they've clearly just invited all the scammers by putting this announcement out. I don't have time for this nonsense.
@@emilyhope7721 Yep, I tried to be optimistic like the people who are calling people crazy for being mad. But it is actually playing out in front of me.
That is truly annoying, but I would expect that that would be the case. EBay has the same situation except they force the seller to make the buyer whole if there is an issue with the item. As far as scammers, in the last 2 years that I've been selling I've had one scammer across 3 platforms, but they are definitely out there. And they are out there on every single platform. I guess it all depends on how the platform protects the seller.
@@livinglushly4597I sell on ebay too (and even there you can just deduct 50% if the buyer returns the wrong item). Scams do happen there. But if you logged on your ebay and saw you had a 33% return rate (2/6 sales returned= 1/3 = 33%) would you not make some changes? The sales I make there are not worth spending the time listing and dealing with buyers just to have 1/3 of everything returned or stolen. That's the way I see it. I may as well use that time on my other platforms.
I'm a Mercari seller. I use whenever I do Spring Cleanings. I've started doing FREE SHIPPING to help subsidize my BUYERS. I only buy with my accumulated funds. Easy
I used macari alot 3 years ago and to go on there now and look at that service fees. That doesn't make any sense. Im seeing fees as high as 12$ ... shipping 33$... and it's just a 6in toy for 120$
What WERE the selling fees? Ebay is pretty steep now @ 13% something. Why not split a reasonable percentage between buyer and seller. I'm ok with returns if the platform covers return shipping.
Just purchased an item today on mercari. I won't lie, as a buyer these new fees are ridiculous and sucks for the buyers. I'll admit if the seller didn't except such a low offer I would've just moved on because after fees alone with shipping, the final price was still close to $70 on a $50 purchase. I hope this comes back to bite mercari because at the end of the day it doesn't matter if you have a ton of sellers, but no buyers. Only way I'll purchase from here on out is if it's a deal you just can't refuse, otherwise I'll be on ebay or amazon.
I made it through all that with Mercari but Iam leaving bc of the latest addition of Japan. There's no search filters for it so wading through the Japanese listings makes my listings more limited as far as views. Too much of a aliexpress vibe for me.
In my opinion this is why they're sticking it to both buyers & sellers with the new policy/fees... To incorporate more of Japans items in on the site while slowly drowning out most other or American items.
I’ve been making more sales on Mercari since the changes. I did drop my prices by 10% though but , my original prices were a little high because I wanted room to negotiate, so dropping my prices by 10% & it bumped them up and I’ve had my older inventory selling! It’s great so far!
I have about the same if not a little more engagement and sales on Mercari after the update than before. I’ve got too many listings to just quit selling on Mercari and it’s good to have your sales options open. That said, I’m not lowering my prices when I’m cross listing because buyers still have the ability to make offers. I’ll probably just have to accept lower offers than normal due to increase costs on the buyer.
I sold $50 in baby items and the lady wanted to send it back and she sent old shirts back macari gave her back her money its the only time i have been scammed. The rate system is not cool they give people 3 days and another 3 days to send back .
For sure, especially if you’re making hundreds a week. But if I have $24 hanging out in my balance, I’m fine keeping it there until I have a more substantial amount to pull out.
I’ve been selling on Mercari and Poshmark for 4 years. My Mercari sales are about 1/5 of my PM sales. The only difference I’m making is I won’t be listing my higher value, especially NWT, items on Mercari anymore. The return policy makes me a little nervous to risk a large loss. In the 4 years selling on Mercari, I’ve had maybe 1-2 requests for return and that was early in my reselling business. I’m hopeful things don’t change much with this new policy. I also hope if a return comes back not in the condition sent, Mercari stands behind the seller. Time will tell I guess.
Something is going on with Mercari since the changes. My account profile is now blank, seller ID says 0. Im still making sales, but when it sahs items sold its as if my own profile is trying to offer me the item on a bid. But there is no accept icon anymore. There used to be. It only allows me to send the buyer a counter offer on a item they sent me a offer on. Like a scammer is messing with the system. Something is off.
for me i havent notice any difference i had more sales than i did before which its weird.. on the 6 years i been inmercari i really maybe had 2 or 3 returns , i dont shop im just a seller so im ok with it..
The platformis broken. If I list a shirt that says Boo size large, then list the same shirt size medium only one shows up to the buyer but both show up in my list of items for sale after two days nothing. Their support is non-existent & all they have is a PO box. I think the platform was secretly sold to people that can't program or troubleshoot.
Wait, Mercari is accepting returns? I just purchased a pair of shorts that the seller had shrank, but still sold them as the size that is marked inside the clothing label. I went through all the steps to return them, however, Mercari refused stating that the seller had fulfilled her obligations. I believe the seller was aware that the item was already shrank before mailing as she had contacted me after the sale stating that they were 100% cotton and not to put them in the dryer. However, she had obviously already shrank the item. Considering unlisting all my items and moving them to Poshmark and never buying from Mercari again.
My thoughts as a seller. No fees=awesome I have to pay $2 per transfer so I’m going to let my money sit until I have a decent amount. Still better off than paying fees. Mercari gets my $2 plus any money they make from my money while holding it. Win win!
YES. I get to some degree why some people are so against keeping their money in Mercari for any longer than they need to, but it’s just not a big deal to me 🤷🏻♀️
Basically the new change will cost you around 20 % more to buy items. For the seller they can sell for free but get charged at least $2 to get funds...probably more. I've spent a lot on mercari but I'm definitely going to think twice and ask for a bigger discount from sellers if I do buy anything there.
I am new to selling on Mercari can you talk about common scams? I just had people comment saying they were interested in my item (high price item) they asked for me to text them i feel that is a scam!
I just tried to buy a “luxury” coat from Mercari. The purchase price was $490. After fees, the total cost was $617. $127 in fees. I went to eBay and got the exact same item (same size and condition) for $298, including shipping. I’ll never shop at Mercari again. I deleted the app.
You may not have to pay a fee to use your balance but my buyers typically are not sellers. So the cost of items will be unreasonable. I recently made a sale. Got charged the 10% plus process fees plus the $2 because it fell outside the refund window.
Ive been on Mercari for about 3 years. I dont sell a lot but pretty decent with my purses. Since the change. I had my first return. The buyer said the purse made a noise. I was like the fudge ...how does a purse make a noise 🤨 Then said the purse had a mark. But it did not have anything. Mercari asked me to respond to the return request. I said to the buyer ...that return excuse was absurd. Mercari sided with buyer. 🤦♀️ Im over it. I stopped listing on Mercari. I still have the shop. But I am really over it.
I think people are still accustomed to having to lie in order to get returns approved. Like, just say you didn’t like the bag for whatever reason 🤦🏻♀️ I can see how that would be frustrating, and I’ve had situations like that on eBay too. I’m sorry!!
I have had 12 sales on Mercari since the change!!! I've been lucky to have 12 sales a month on Mercari since maybe 2022. 4 in progress now and 8 closed without a return request. Maybe the uptick in sales is a result of buyer confidence? I'm sticking around for now! I'm not worried about the $2 fee, if I withdraw every $200+ is
It should be illegal. Fact is most people had a balance and mercari gave no heads up for the change. Everyone just woke up one day to find out they had to pay to get their money out. I agree that 2 dollars isnt bad but would if they had said it costs 20 dollars? Would if they said it would cost 40 dollars? How bout 100? They can just make up whatever number they want. So yeah.. it should be illegal. Whats to stop them from going up on that fee in the future without notice? Absolutely nothing.
I send offers to likers and buyers can always make an offer to compensate for fees. Things haven't really changed that much. It's just a lot easier for sellers. BTW: I am pretty sure Mercari also makes money on shipping.
I was just about to start crosslisting on mercari when they dropped this change. do you think i should just bite the bullet and post or should i wait it out and see whats good?
If you were in a place where you had all your ducks in a row and were ready to add a new platform, I’d do it. For you, you don’t have to “relearn” anything-this will be your only normal. You can also decide at the beginning if you want to price things a little lower or offer free shipping due to not having to pay for any fees, and maybe that’ll help you stand out from the beginning.
This is a BAD move on Mercari s part. The buyer is now paying outrageous fees … I wanted to buy a $12 item and it would have cost $25 to cover all the fees! And I also sell once in a while, but feel like I need to do free shipping which could easily get out of hand when trying to increase your price to cover it. I’m quitting Mercari!
I'm sticking with Mercari. I do pretty good. My items are from $10-$40. My sales have stayed the same. Yesterday I made six, today three. Haven't dealt with returns yet. So many sellers bailed without seeing how it goes first.
I think a good way to combat the “pulling out money” is just to keep the balance there. I resell and I keep the balance there to shop with and say I spend $25 of my mercari credits- I then go to my bank account and move $25 from my checking to savings and it’s like I “spent” my own money but I’m avoiding the mercari fees. It’s just a good hack I use :)
The silly thing is that items will have to be listed for less to get more sales with the new charges for buyers. I also think they are trying to encourage people to use their balance and keep money in Mercari.
Yes; they are outright encouraging people to lower prices on their items. Which I kind of get in that it’ll all balance out in the end. But also…I don’t want to. Lol

Vinted
I hate this for my and everyone else's buyers!! Yall see something u really want and then go to checkout and Mercari hits you with a nearly 25% markup!!!
@@shriveax Usually everything ends up costing double. I buy things that cost around $20 and they end up being $40 so I don't buy
Yeah as a seller, I probably won't change any habits on mercari, but as a buyer? I'll definitely shop around. Adding all those extra fees sometimes makes it not even worth it to buy secondhand.
So it's the buyer that pays the processing fee?
@@kathykaura7219 yep :/
The biggest issue is there is a random, undiscolsed Service Fee that can be like 10%. It's not just 2.9%. That's way too much to put on a buyer.
The jews always do this
Ridiculous the buyer is already paying on taxes, shipping and handling why are they double dipping????
I will NOT BE BUYING FROM THEM ANYMORE! IIM OUT! 😡they’re simply putting it off on the buyers!
I think it's a bad idea. There's not any store I visit that tell me I need to pay a fee to shop in their store.
@@lorettabuza3319😂
Maybe a good idea to video opening up the return package when you get a return so if the box is empty you have some proof
There are scammers galore that run wild on Mercari...and Mercari does NOTHING about it.
As far as I know there is, in addition to the payment processing fee, a service fee charged to the buyer on Mercari. The examples I have seen is 10%. So the buyer pays a non refundable payment processing fee ( even if item is returned), a service fee ( about 10%), shipping and taxes.
I really wish we could find out exactly what that fee is based on since it's not posted anywhere and nobody actually knows what it is...
Ohhhh you might be right-I forgot that there was more than the 2.9% fee and the $0.50 fee.
@@livinglushly4597 yeah-they’re so clear about the “pros” of the change but hide the more unsavory bits to make that info much harder to find.
Do the math. That shows exactly how it goes.
Nice! I don’t think I’m going to do that, but I do use the smart pricing feature which gets the prices down to the point eventually.
As used item buyer, I tried that. For many things, I can buy new elsewhere. Not worth it. I haven't bought anything on Mercari since.
Yes & you'll end up having buyers wait you out for years until your items are priced down to $1. 😂
Low-ball world. How low can you really go.😅
I was a seller on Mercari. WAS is the big word. They take a selling fee and now a fee for getting your money out also. That’s unacceptable
I used to sell but i pulled out two years ago im glad i did.
But as a buyer i found something i liked but all the fees at checkout the raised the item from $559 with shipping to $669 with shipping. That scared me from buying it i plan to drive to another state for it.
I love how you get straight into the point of every important detail. keep them coming. Enjoying your videos!
no sales since the announcement
I don’t think I have either. But that’s also not really uncommon for me 🤷🏻♀️
@@beckyparkco I’ve only sold one thing, but that’s pretty common for me too.
None for me either
Just Found ANOTHER MERCARI SELLER SCAM! BEWARE “Free Shipping” .. I Just Created {7} New Ads, LOWERING the Buyer’s Obligation by Offering FREE Shipping .. {ALL ADS @ 3 Pounds - UPS Showed $7.99} .. at the Bottom Where I Added My Selling Price - I WAS CHARGED $15.99 FOR THE SHIPPING CHARGE! .. YET ANOTHER SCAM TO COVER THEIR LYING AZZES!
Oh hey, I sold something. Now I have $15 hanging out.
I think those changes are pretty interesting. I just wish Mercari stops forcing sellers to keep lowering the price to send out offers.
I planned my whole day to relist my mercari listings. I just got banned for a regular audio CD I re-listed.. Said I violated their policy and I'm not allowed to sell drugs on the site. Gets stupider everyday. So sick of Merc BS and I hardly sell a thing anymore.
They fixed pretty quick and no similar problems since. No selling fees? I have to re-figure/price everything again.
That’s great! I still think I haven’t made a sale on Mercari since the changes lol
In addition to the 2.9% payment processing fee, buyers also pay an undisclosed service fee at checkout which varies depending on cost of item purchased and category and could be as much as 10%.
That's what I want to find out. What exactly is that service fee, how much is it and what is it dependent on
They’re double dipping for the buyers!!! I don’t sell anything on here! So I’d GONE!
yeah its not JUST the 2.9% + 50 cents payment processing fee theres another fee that averages to 7.5%
@sublime90 Yep.
Here to say your sweater is ADORABLE 😍
Awww Ty!!!
As seller i dont mind the $2 charge . I just concerned buyer need to pay extra fees my sales is down . Now i listed in free shipping still not much sale
Customer service sucks for sellers. My daughter has been calling everyday for an issue and they say they will get back to her and never do.😡
I needed this video. Thank you! I feel much better.
Why are people being taxed for buying used clothes on Mercari if clothes are not taxed in an actual store?
Today is Saturday. I finally had time to open Poshmark & Mercari. It took me about an hour to open an account. I listed a Moncler coat, two pairs of Tory Burch shoes, and a pair of earrings. After 6 or 7 hours later and I received a message saying that my account was closed. I don’t know why. I have to wait until next Monday to call them and find out, it’s so annoying, and I will open up eBay account tomorrow.
There is no phone number to call and my account has been permanently closed, waste of my time🤣
I’m about to start selling on Mercari thinking it’s good deal I don’t have to pay seller fee but I’m concern buyers will not shop there anymore cause so many fees.
I’m trying to figure it out 🤷♀️
When did they start adding processing fees ? I’m only a buyer but this seems to be a lot of extra expense when their shipping is fairly high.
Mercari seems to attract poor and broke buyers causing sellers to just change platforms. There is no distinguishment between new and used, collectibles or antique items. It's ridiculous.
Hey Becky , I can’t believe I found someone my size in clothes and shoes! Any tips for finding nice things for us petite peeps?
I pull out my money one time of month. Alot of people want everything really low because of the buyers fees.
The stores in my area have been charging $2 to $2.50 when getting cash back from a purchase made with a debit card. So the $2 charge doesn't seem extreme.
What is currently the best platform to sell on? I'm not feeling the return for anything policy.
I hate to admit, although not at all logical, the 19.99 seems more appealing to me. It's under 20$!!! Yay 😂
RAISING the price in a low-baller community on USED items is 🤣.
They should pay us interest for keeping our mercari balance 🤔
"That thing you do!"
Now THAT’S interesting…earn some extra Mercari credit the longer you keep it in there lol. And YES! BEST MOVIE EVER!!
Thanks Becky! I will continue and see how it goes. Take care;
Me too! We can keep each other posted haha
I generally get the lowest of low ballers on Mercari and thats who shops there so I don’t know if this will benefit Mercari with the buyers having to pay more fees. Even if the buyer lowers the price the low ballers will still psychologically think they are paying too much
💯
I like your logic ❤️ Good luck with your sales as well!
I don’t watch That Thing You Do nearly enough 😆 an undisputed classic!
Thanks for the info
This is what I’m afraid of
@@emilyhope7721 Yep, I tried to be optimistic like the people who are calling people crazy for being mad.
I hear ya 1000%. It’ll be interesting to see what happens a year or two from now.
@@icedfullmoon1573 that makes sense. They allow sale of protected plants/drugs/peyote and poached plants. Its too bad. I liked it for awhile
I’ve been making more sales on Mercari since the changes. I did drop my prices by 10% though but , my original prices were a little high because I wanted room to negotiate, so dropping my prices by 10% & it bumped them up and I’ve had my older inventory selling! It’s great so far!
That’s amazing! Maybe I shouuuuuld drop my prices lol
I'm staying on Mercari and only lowered a couple of prices.
Nice! I hope it goes well for you!!!
Yes to all of this! I do think “smart pricing” is a much better option now than it was before.
I sold $50 in baby items and the lady wanted to send it back and she sent old shirts back macari gave her back her money its the only time i have been scammed. The rate system is not cool they give people 3 days and another 3 days to send back .
Selling platforms are not banks. I would never keep my money there.
For sure, especially if you’re making hundreds a week. But if I have $24 hanging out in my balance, I’m fine keeping it there until I have a more substantial amount to pull out.
I oddly made 2 sales on Mercari yesterday. And it’s the first time since I started cross posting there in February.
Fingers crossed that they’re not returned!
I have actually gotten a big bundle sale since the announcement
for me i havent notice any difference i had more sales than i did before which its weird.. on the 6 years i been inmercari i really maybe had 2 or 3 returns , i dont shop im just a seller so im ok with it..
Hopefully things stay generally the same for you!
Fantastic Video, thank you for making this and sharing! ~C
Thanks for watching!
My thoughts as a seller.
No fees=awesome
I have to pay $2 per transfer so I’m going to let my money sit until I have a decent amount.
I was trying to buy a game for $12, with fees/shipping and taxes it came to $20 something. I said, nope!
I’m sorry!!
I found that Depop is taking over now and the selling fee are not as bad as
I have had 12 sales on Mercari since the change!!! I've been lucky to have 12 sales a month on Mercari since maybe 2022. 4 in progress now and 8 closed without a return request. Maybe the uptick in sales is a result of buyer confidence? I'm sticking around for now! I'm not worried about the $2 fee, if I withdraw every $200+ is
I've been unable to login for months and I've had them wrongly freeze my account. I would never leave money in my account with them
Screw Mercari - tell us about that kick ass sweater. That thing rocks.
I think seller pays 2.9% payment processing fee and 50 cents per listing with the new announcement
Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe if you use your balance to pay for a purchase you don’t pay a processing fee but still pay for the service fee
Do they report your sales to IRS?
After $600 in any year, Yes.
@@icedfullmoon1573 thank you!
My issue is that Mercari is holding people's money. It is not FDIC insured. The money is limbo until it's in hand.
You can also decide at the beginning if you want to price things a little lower or offer free shipping due to not having to pay for any fees, and maybe that’ll help you stand out from the beginning.
i am having 0 sales but loads of views =/ its so slow for me
I think their views are bots. I literally listed a potato sack & got 19 views in 2 days, seriously how many people are shopping for a potato sack?
This is a BAD move on Mercari s part. The buyer is now paying outrageous fees … I wanted to buy a $12 item and it would have cost $25 to cover all the fees! And I also sell once in a while, but feel like I need to do free shipping which could easily get out of hand when trying to increase your price to cover it. I’m quitting Mercari!
I'm sticking with Mercari. I do pretty good. My items are from $10-$40. My sales have stayed the same. Yesterday I made six, today three. Haven't dealt with returns yet. So many sellers bailed without seeing how it goes first.
For sure-wait to see how things go down before bailing!
I have some questions about how to sell on mercari, how can I contact you?
Because it is not good for the buyers
Lol
