I would not touch Amazon if you are a small business- You have no control over postage which must be purchased from Amazon - all products have to be sent tracked- Customer service is geared to favour the buyer. Common for buyers to scam you even with proof of receipt - Many seller are leaving.
1)Amazon - High comp as well 2) Your own store - higher out of pocket and learning curve for marketing 3) Walmart - Harder to get into the program for individual sellers 4) Bonanza - Good alternative, a lot less traffic and eyes on your products. 5) FB MP - Good traffic, ease of access but I feel people are not viewing it as a marketplace as much as they may the other alternatives 6) Wayfair, seems very specific. I don't like some of the changes ebay has made and continues to but it is hard to beat for traffic, low barrier to entry marketplace.
Does anyone actually buy from the 3rd party sellers on Walmart? I personally avoid them because they are significantly overpriced, also charge shipping and there are a lot of counterfeit products. I bought a Neutrogena product that I always buy from Walmart and somehow I mistakenly bought from a 3rd party and when it arrived I instantly knew it was fake. I can't believe Walmart allows the Chinese knockoffs as that is not only dangerous but also loses the buyers trust.
How’d you know it was a fake? I have had uneducated customers accuse me of selling fakes on amazon, and they’re WRONG. That accusation is very damaging.
@@albertodeulofeu5277 ugh I wish I could upload a photo on here. Usually you can tell just from the packaging. It will feel cheaper and the words will be spaced odd or the packaging will be completely different, it's a whole lot easier to tell when you've bought the product for years and have the real one to compare to. But the biggest indicator was the product itself. It had a completely different smell and texture and when I put a little on the back of my hand it dried sticky whereas the real one pretty much evaporates and leaves the skin smooth. I bought dove deodorant from Amazon for a little cheaper than usual and I used it for months and was thinking I had all of a sudden developed sweating problems lol but when I bought another one straight from Walmart I suddenly realized the Amazon ones were fake. The packaging was completely different - the bottle was smaller, the words were odd, the nozzle didn't spray properly and the deodorant itself felt different. I've bought many fakes over the years but I'm starting to learn not to buy certain products from Amazon, ebay or 3rd party companies. Granted the person who accused you of selling fakes may have just wanted to be able to return the product and it not be considered buyers remorse but then again maybe he's just got a lot of counterfeits and he's paranoid. Gillette razors, makeup products, face/hair/beauty products, sports jerseys, victoria's secret clothes, handbags, ugg boots, etc, etc so many things are faked and being mass produced in China and sold to people who don't know any better. I wish they would just ban the Chinese sellers but A) they would never because they bring in so much profit and B) the Chinese sellers are (supposedly) shipping from US facilities which makes it more difficult to tell. Trust me I get it. A few years ago I had a lady buy 4 higher end sports cards and try to claim they were all fake 🤦♀️ and the worst part is she got away with keeping half of them and damaging the others she did actually send back and I was too new to reselling to know I could file a police report and everything.
I’ve been in Ecom since 2005 and I cant disagree more. Plus all online businesses are more competitive now after 2020. eBay is still easy and you can make a lot of money.
Nope. Almost none of these places are better for the sellers. They all charge high fees and make it extremely difficult for the sellers to make any real money. Shopify is a good place for an online shop, but then you spend twice as much time driving customers to it. All these online market places have gotten away from supporting their sellers and only into making money for themselves.
You spend more money doing e-commerce on your own and you don't get much traffic. It's good to start on other platforms first as you mentioned. But I wouldn't recommend Etsy. Too many scam artists!
@@e-spy I don't have to go through 50 item descriptions to list clothing on Poshmark and after three days if a buyer doesn't open a claim to return there is no return available. Cuts down on buyer's remorse. Also if USPS loses an item Poshmark takes care of you the seller and the buyer instead of Ebay pushing the missing package on you the seller to figure out or take a loss. I am really happy to pay Poshmark 20% for the services they do. Plus Poshmark emails you a shipping label on a sale that you don't have make extra steps to buy the shipping label. Shoes, coffee mugs, have the best shipping cost on Poshmark compared to Ebay's shipping if I can't put them in a padded flat rate any package under 5 pounds is $7.67. I have sold many items in one Large USPS box on Poshmark for $7.67 where a pair of shoes on Ebay can cost double easily. I still love Ebay and have things listed but if the item descriptions to fill in are too long I just list on Poshmark.
At one time I bought a lot of stuff from ebay ,but they r so many sellers that don't stand by their products ,and most things I can buy locally about the same price and get it right then
First of all we just went through a pandemic. There’s a horrific economic collapse and now inflation among other terrible things. How the hell are we supposed to survive financially with an app that takes three weeks to a month to get paid. I don’t like the idea of sending my valuable stuff off to a buyer that gets to keep it for a month before we get paid that is beyond screwed up. I said we all been together and file a massive nationwide class action lawsuit against eBay for making the economy worse.

Amazon charges 20 percent, only cheaper products normally have enough room for the extra markup. At that rate, you are working more for them than yourself. Etsy is much cheaper cost-wise, but all of these should just be temporary, having your own site is the real goal for the win.
Great info, but I wish there were an easier way to sell some used clothing. I don't want to start a business, but I don't feel like doing a big yard sale either. I've given way too much to Goodwill already, which is basically making them rich by getting free stuff that I can only deduct from taxes if I file long form.
I am small business since May 2001. I did suspect major ecommerce portals like Ebay, Amazon, Etsy, Alibaba do not send collected State Sales Tax to the States but keep large portion of the Tax paid by buyers. For mall export to EU, Canada Australia I have to or by small buyer pays 23% VAT Tax and make US export more expensive. Ebay, Amazon itc collect the tax,
After ebay got rid of PayPal they started initiating returns without our permission than taking MORE money from us than we received from the sale. I don't know about other sellers but i can't afford getting paid 69.00 for an item than getting charged 85.00 for the return, than spending an hour getting the run around on the phone. That's a 15 dollar loss and an hour of wasted time. I imagine that either the big sellers just have to let it go because they don't have time to deal with it or ebay is discriminating against small seller's by making it miserable enough that they just leave. Ebay must be raking in a pretty extra penny. Imagine if they only skimmed 16 dollars a month from every seller and half of it goes ignored because no one has time to fight with the customer service bot about it. Mercari and postmark are nice for small sellers too.
I do t trust having to use PayPal. They threaten people all the time. Maybe one day they steal my money. That’s the kind of thing they do. Any suggestions for other platforms. That don’t make you use Pal Pal?
When the title says Forget eBay, but the comments glorifies eBay. I'm done with ebay due to being scammed and buyers remorse four times this year and they sided with each party. They really don't side with the seller much due to the money back guarantee. I'd rather get atleast decent sales and not worry about the issues I've dealt with on ebay
Gahhh.. I have been an Amazon seller for 22 years.. They do not care about their sellers.. The policies are very restrictive , and they come out with new rules every few weeks. Bots are everywhere and charge sellers with policy violations all the time. Sometimes warranted,, sometimes not. On top of that,, you are advocating for FBA.. That is crazy. Once you send your product to an FBA warehouse,, not only does it take weeks or months to get checked in,, they lose inventory all of the time.. Back to the policy violations,,, If you have inventory in an Amazon warehouse,, when a policy violation occurs and you are deactivated, they refuse to pay you or give your inventory back, AND sell off your stolen inventory with "Warehouse Deals".. or liquidate YOUR inventory by the truckload.. NEVER go FBA.. Seller services are out of India and they just read from a script.. You could be talking to a wall.. Amazon used to be a good place to sell,, and I still do all FBM (fullfilllment by merchant) only.. They take 15 percent of the sales price AND 15 percent of your shipping.. Pro seller account is an additional 39 bucks a month. If you have a warehouse in California,, the state is sending HUGE tax bills. Also California has restrictions on items.. California Energy Commission (CEC). Sellers of these products must also register them in the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database (MAEDBS)... CEC registration requirements for lighting products, pool products and portable spa products, portable air conditioners, computers, and monitors. Amazon is full of pitfalls and red tape.. Expect your first 2 or 3 months to be restricted and have funds withheld. Ebay is probably the place to be right now.
I’m considering them but I know when I buy with them, they tell me to rate seller so they get paid. What happens if I get a buyer who doesn’t bother to rate me? At eBay that happens to me. Would it mean Mercari wouldn’t pay me?
I am very surprised that this video did not mention Amazon's return policy. This is a huge difference between Amazon and other platform....in a negative way.
Is Amazon only to sell new with tag items? and if so does one have to have many of the same item to sell? or can one just sell one item with tag on amazon?
@@princej9883 really? You’re going there? Are you in the second grade? If you must know, it’s kind of hard to tell online. I hope that helps your understanding, and makes you a better person.
They are also super ban happy. The bots will just randomly suspend you for "unusual activities", and then you are in limbo for like months because there is basically no human customer support at the moment.
i disagree with this video. I ve worked with Amazon and they are abusive against sellers, they change fees without notices. we even got together some sellers to protest their abusive rules, this is for items that get real competitive with Amazon products
For me, it's the lowlife buyers constantly running scams and lowballing. Tried selling on there for about 2 months and quickly found out it is not worth the stress.
Great video you’re great to watch her really quick with the information anyways what I was going to say is that the reason why I didn’t wanna use Amazon is because I get my items and I can’t afford to pay for shipping and people want free shipping on Amazon right anyone else have thoughts on this also I buy my items like Halloween home Decour at places like TJ Maxx and then resell them online search very little room for profit and I only have one item of each.
I'm not Steve, but I can tell you that Shopify is not a sales platform. Shopify is a website builder and hosting platform. The storefront is your website; Shopify provides payment processing and many other tools.
A word about FB Marketplace. There are no startup costs, but just be aware that you must have enough funds upfront to support your sales. I recommend starting small and having a separate funded account. It takes time to get paid for your sales. Also, if you have a sale, and purchase from WM, there will often be no tracking numbers provided, which can make your customer antsy. Make sure you communicate this to your customer. If you use Amazon for your sales, set up a separate non-prime account. If they bust you you'll lose your entire Amazon account.
regular seller on Amazon and eBay and I will tell you Amazon is far more expensive to sell on. definitely not a good recommendation for people sorry. I sell 100k a year on Amazon and I sell 100k plus a year on eBay and it's definitely a big difference in actual profit.

Thank you very much for this video. I believe that it was the most informative video (on any subject) that I have seen on the internet. This video could be the foundation of a full blown course or in person seminar for us old folks. Continued luck going forward.
I agree
ive been a reseller for about 10 months. and i notice people dont mention Poshmark or Mercari
I've been selling well on Mercari. I sel on Poshmark as well but the fees are outrages. 20% of your sales cost.
We use Mercari mainly. Might as well just focus on one platform.
How has mecari been treating you?
@@14720509 Poshmark fees are worth it. Their customer service and protection for sellers is outstanding. Ebay is deceiving. Their fees are 13% but when you add in promoted listings costs, returns, chargeback fees, it honestly evens out. Poshmark takes care of all of those issues for free on top of amazing seller customer service. The 20% is worth it.
Mercari has a bunch of cheapskates
I buy a lot on ebay and have saved TONS of money on car parts and everything else i buy on there, to me it's still the greatest site to buy from, Amazon charges too much for their stuff and I just don't have any reason to use them..
Hello, friend,I'm Shawn from China, we have specialized in freight forwarding over 10 years. Now normal business has resumed, any question about import and shipping you can ask me.😃
For parts etc eBay is the best
Shame on you as you said amazon good for new sellers dont lie
Why??
@@shheellbbyy6532😂 prob cause it’s hella hard to sell on there and keep up with them for new comers but the guy in the vid isn’t wrong you would make a lot more profit if you got what it takes though
Yes I have to agree Amazon is not good for beginners there are too many limits
I've tried most of those but the one I had most success with is Atomic Mall.
Never heard of it
Exactly the video I was looking for. Thank you so much and congrats on all of your success!
I would not touch Amazon if you are a small business- You have no control over postage which must be purchased from Amazon - all products have to be sent tracked- Customer service is geared to favour the buyer. Common for buyers to scam you even with proof of receipt - Many seller are leaving.
I'd like to leave them. Can't do it overnight though. Have to build business elsewhere online first.
Wow, it's that bad.
Wow that’s maddening
We have on accident on occasion. It's a horrible experience nearly every time.
3:12 OMG! Bank-face you savage!
I’ve been in Ecom since 2005 and I cant disagree more. Plus all online businesses are more competitive now after 2020. eBay is still easy and you can make a lot of money.
eBay takes a lot of the final sale and they can ban u for life for bullshit reasons. eBay is terrible.
WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Been on ebay since it's creation you are 100% biased and wrong.
@@slottygw2wvw842 🤣
@amazingoutours3476talking bout strict rules LMAO that EBay for you bruh
U got to spend money. Per month to sell on Amazon and then the fees are super high
Poshmark is my favorite
why?
I love Poshmark it is the best clothing resale site
What happened to Ebay alternative number 4?
As soon as you said Amazon I am done!
Interesting! In video advertising other 6 company to sell, but eBay, in the same hand using following tags: ebay, selling on ebay, how to sell on ebay, ebay alternatives, ebay alternatives for sellers, make money online, alternatives to ebay, sites like ebay, amazon, walmart, facebook marketplace, shopify, bonanza, ecommerce, ebay competitors, ebay dropshipping, other sites like ebay, website like ebay, ebay selling, sites similar to ebay, website to sell things, ebay sales, selling on ebay from walmart, make money online paypal, make money online easy, online business, online seller
Amazon charges 20 percent, only cheaper products normally have enough room for the extra markup. At that rate, you are working more for them than yourself. Etsy is much cheaper cost-wise, but all of these should just be temporary, having your own site is the real goal for the win.
Amazon charges 15%
@@mywifequitherjob And $0 insertion fee.
Great info, but I wish there were an easier way to sell some used clothing. I don't want to start a business, but I don't feel like doing a big yard sale either. I've given way too much to Goodwill already, which is basically making them rich by getting free stuff that I can only deduct from taxes if I file long form.
None of these are an alternative to eBay. I want to sell some shoes and maybe some baseball cards. Simple things.
Ebay, Amazon itc collect the tax,
I hardly ever shop on Amazon
A lot of eBay sellers drop ship their products from Amazon anyways…
Great video. help so much!! One of best self help video ive ever seen.
Great could you give more alternatives for selling - for international sellers.
Amazon's fees are more but people pay much more. Amazon restricts most categories whereas they didn't before.
IM A NEW SUBSCRIBER I HAVE BEEN SELLING ON A FEW OF UR SUGGESTIONS FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW thank u
Never sell anything expensive on Ebay or anything that costs more than $15 shipping. It is too easy to get screwed by buyers.
Amazon ...Yeuch. Don't have anything to do with Amazon. But thanks for the other alternatives .
I do t trust having to use PayPal. They threaten people all the time. Maybe one day they steal my money. That’s the kind of thing they do.
Any suggestions for other platforms. That don’t make you use Pal Pal?
Yeah they stole $80 from my account.
Ebay is no longer associated with PayPal.
What's so difficult about saying the word times?
Those ebay fees are criminal.
You're right. I'm looking for something better.
Until you pay Amazon fees...
Ebay has gone to total sh!t. I only sell on there very specific items. Anything else, I will sell anywhere else.
Then the fees and shipping make it not wort it
When the title says Forget eBay, but the comments glorifies eBay. I'm done with ebay due to being scammed and buyers remorse four times this year and they sided with each party. They really don't side with the seller much due to the money back guarantee. I'd rather get atleast decent sales and not worry about the issues I've dealt with on ebay
Amazon is helllllll worst , high fees , complex , tons of rules they quick to threaten you to kick you out
Amazons and eBay are two different animals so to speak. I would like to learn more , thanks for sharing!
Correct me if I'm wrong but if I do not use a 3rd party platform, I would need to obtain a sellers permit and a get a business license, correct?
You need to get a sellers permit and business license no matter what
Can you emphasize a little more on what dirty seller exactly means thank you
I prefer Ebay, because Ebay has Ebay Bucks, and I receive purchases faster.
no Etsy?
I got taken in by their long-term storage ripoff years ago. Never did fba again after that. Fbm only now.
Mercari makes it super easy to sell, i love it!!!
I’m considering them but I know when I buy with them, they tell me to rate seller so they get paid.
What happens if I get a buyer who doesn’t bother to rate me?
At eBay that happens to me.
Would it mean Mercari wouldn’t pay me?
@@charlottestarlet7371It means Mercari gives you the best rating and you get paid. I had the same question last night and looked it up😂
@@charlottestarlet7371they will after 3 days. Automatically. Last I checked.

Etsy?
I am very surprised that this video did not mention Amazon's return policy. This is a huge difference between Amazon and other platform....in a negative way.
Exactly.
You can do an entire video on how get around Amazon category restrictions
I sell on Mercari
Is Amazon only to sell new with tag items? and if so does one have to have many of the same item to sell? or can one just sell one item with tag on amazon?
What about Etsy; haven’t tried it yet
Good place to sell.Have been making good money there for 10+ years.
To be clear, I hate Amazon and eBay. But what I like better about Amazon is it’s easier to return items.
So you like to harass poor sellers

a lot of times amazon's cheaper than ebay! I go back to amazon after browsing ebay prices...
I do a lot of selling on FB marketplace and the fees are so much cheaper than any other platform.
They are also super ban happy. The bots will just randomly suspend you for "unusual activities", and then you are in limbo for like months because there is basically no human customer support at the moment.
But they hold your money too don't they?
Amaon has bad seller customer service.
Better to not sell at all then sell there.
i disagree with this video. I ve worked with Amazon and they are abusive against sellers, they change fees without notices. we even got together some sellers to protest their abusive rules, this is for items that get real competitive with Amazon products
I've had many unpleasant experiences with Amazon as a seller.
Any way where can I buy Antminer 7 with affordable price??
Ebays biggest killer is the price they take, its whats stopping me using them.
Hi Steve. What about Shopify?
Thank you for sharing
I'm not Steve, but I can tell you that Shopify is not a sales platform. Shopify is a website builder and hosting platform. The storefront is your website; Shopify provides payment processing and many other tools.
Hey i sell kitchen appliances and install them aswell as gas whats the best site to sell?
Thank you
A word about FB Marketplace.
Do any of these alternatives have auction option like eBay?
I have ~5k items listed on eBay , can you sync or import them to facebook marketplace???
Vendoo and list perfectly are platforms you can use.
Ebay allowed someone who DID NOT buy from me to leave a Horrible review because I did not have product available and canceled an order.
So they did buy from you, but you didn’t do your duty as a selller and wasted the customers time.

Have been dealing with ebay years now. 100 percent rating. I recently purchased an item. Made the payment immediately. Never received the item. You can clearly see on the sellers part that they never shipped it. Ebay did absolutely nothing to resolve this.We had to file a complaint to our bank to try to resolve this. Totally disgusted with ebay.
It’s almost impossible to understand or figure all the fees on eBay. Everything is scattered and varies or they don’t show it at all!
Ebay is 12.9%
