You often get interviewers who keep interrupting, and it's incredibly unprofessional. David Frost always knew what he was saying, and often used a simple rhetoric to get his guest to respond with longer answers. I'd recommend looking at Mark Lawson's interviews, he's also good.

When I was younger, I envied Paul because of his looks, his voice, his charm, his humor. Now that I'm older and hopefully wiser, I realize that Paul was and is one of those rare human beings who is a gift to mankind not only because of the music he gives us but for being a person we can all hope to emulate. A true delight to hear him talk about life's lessons and the joy he still has for performing for us. "Thank You, Paul" doesn't seem to be enough, does it?

Wow! An interview where the subject is allowed to express himself completely without being interrupted every 30 seconds. Terrific interview, thank you.
Mccartney is an alcoholic and can be a bit incoherent and boring at times, its only natural for an interviewer to cut in to keep his dull rambling at a minimum. I would have liked to have heard more from the reporter. Beatle Paul is better at music than making talking. Thanks.
Your question made me think... what if? What if there was never a sgt peppers lonely hearts club band? Or no yellow submarine movie? Or no Eleanor rigby? I wouldn't be who I am.
I consider myself one of the luckiest people in the world to have lived from the beginning of the Beatles in the USA. I was 13 when I saw you perform at Olympia Stadium in Detroit in 1964. What a truly beautiful time that was!! I have grown with you all, loved the music and all of you to this day. Thank you Paul, John, George, and Ringo for always being in my world with your song. The four of you have no idea how much you are and always will be loved! Cheers and much love forever! Janice 😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@lucasoheyze4597 Isn't what he wrote in previous decades enough to make him a genius? I genuinely think people will still be listening to him in hundreds of years time.
Have you seen the Carpool Karaoke with James Corden? It's a beautiful mix of music, and wonderful stories. It's different than this one, but wonderful as well.
the overseer then you are uninformed. William is very much alive, Pauls replacement. JPM however has been dead since late 1966. Denying it doesnt make William JPM. Heather Mills hinted at the dark truth. And yes people will be devestated when the truth comes out.
Just imagine for a moment, Paul's mum had no idea how famous and accomplished her son would become, amazing really when you think of it, it was just her boy, Paul. RIP Paul's Mum.
@Dreama40 Imagine, for a moment, that everyone became aware of the truth that the Beatles were a Tavistock creation and then they stopped believing the fairy tale that two twenty something year old boys wrote 600 songs in 5 years (when they admit to never writing while on the road).. I wonder what would change if ppl recognized the depth and magnitude of the deception mainstream narratives offer up for public consumption.
Reading the April 2015 issue of the Rolling Stone, Ringo's the cover boy and in the magazine he states that him (Ringo) and John lived close by and when they finished an album, they became very lazy. But soon enough, Paul would be calling and telling them 'let's get back to the studio, lads.' Ringo further states that all the music they put down was because of Paul's need to stay busy. Ringo said that we can thank Paul that 12 studio albums were produced, as well as many singles. That IS something to be thankful for! THANKS PAUL!!!
Water Falls George Harrison too was a perfectionist, but one who preferred to take longer in doing a song. Paul's domination was also the reason Harrison wanted to leave mostly. And we got to hear less George on the albums because of the other two.
StartabandRoxy Okay, sure, I'll concede that, though I never understood George's unrelenting grudge toward Paul, for his bossy ways and refusal to let George have more of his songs on the albums, but his quick and easy forgiveness of John, who also belittled his songwriting, refused to let George have more of his songs on the albums and who never thought of George as and equal to himself or Paul. Life's ironies. Whatever, we all got to enjoy George's kick ass All Things Must Pass album that was the perfect "up yours and in your face" payback answer to both McCartney and Lennon. Must have been sweet payback indeed for George, lol.
Water Falls Yes, I've noticed that too about him. He had a little brother kind of attitude, he seems that way about Bob Dylan too. I've noticed Pisces and Geminis not getting along at all in other places too ... dunno. I see a lack of much interaction between Paul and George in the old footage, even though they shared a mike.
waybetterthanjeff Yes, but I was talking about the attitude George carried himself with. A little brother kind of way, writers have all said that about him and Lennon particularly.
If you haven't seen Paul McCartney live I urge you to go see him. I saw him play Cardiff about 5 years ago. It was the best gig I have ever attended. A huge sing a long with all the audience involved. It was fantastic. McCartney isn't just a master musician he's a natural born entertainer too.
He was questioned a few years back as to why he won't retire, and he simply said "because the next day I'd be writing songs or organising tours. I love it too much"
What could you possibly say that hasn't already been said about Paul? (including what I just wrote). There aren't enough superlatives to describe his talent, charisma and honesty. If you grew up in the 60s/70s the songs of the Beatles and Paul are like the background music to a movie of our lives. We've all felt the emotions summoned up by their lyrics and haunting melodies. The isolation and loneliness of an 'Eleanor Rigby', the wonder of a 'Magical Mystery Tour', the pure joy of a 'Penny Lane', the rousing rhythm of a 'Lady Madonna', the reminisces of a 'Things we said today', the whimsical comedy of a 'Maxwells Silver Hammer', the pure love of a 'Here There and Everywhere' or an 'I Will'. What a great, great friend Paul has been to us, without ever meeting most of us. My dear friend, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful music and just being you.
StevieMuso Wonderfully said. Also - their music is timeless and if today's youth become lucky enough, they do wind up with The Beatles as the soundtrack to their lives. I myself was born in the eighties and yet no music means more to me than theirs. Every album, every song, and phrase still sounds magical and revolutionary. I honestly believe that it always will.
Thanks for your kind comments. I was born in the 50s and I was 9 when the Beatles came to Sydney, Australia in 1964. I grew up with their music and particularly the Beatles cartoon show. My cousins and I used to pretend to be the beatles, playing badminton racquets and Milo tins out on the front lawn of my Grand Mother's place and miming to their records. In my teens I started playing guitar for real and I met some other guys at school. We were going to be another Beatles. We learned their songs and tried to mimick them. Over the years their music has always been in the background and sometimes I will drag out my album collection and have a Beatles day. I still play a few of their songs at open mic nights. I was fortunate enough to be able to obtain Diamond seating tickets for Paul's concert in Sydney on December 12th, 2017. They were expensive but it's something I can tick off my bucket list. It will be so exciting. My girlfriend is a big Paul McCartney fan too, so she is over the moon. All the best to you 'Wisdom & Strength'.
Having just visited Liverpool recently, I can vouch for how friendly and jovial they are. I did a Beatles tour in a cab with a terrific guide - Stuart. It snowed on us. It was wonderful! 💞
The Beatles and Paul McCartney, and the beautiful magic of music 🎶 have transformed the world 🌎 ✨️ To see the concerts he has played all over the planet in so many countries with the audience singing along, where English isnt even necessarily the language, is so incredible. The love the inspiration and the joy that this music has brought us is incalculable. 🎉 Pure magic. A "Magical Mystery Tour" ✨️ indeed. So great to see David Frost and Paul speak back in the 60's and then again in 2012. Amazing. What a life Paul has had. Truly blessed and privileged 🙏 he and we are. 🕉 ✌️ ☮️ 🕊 ❤️ 💖 🌟
Weapons Education they helped save my life as a suicidal teen years ago. I felt so alone and bullied, then I found the Beatles! The music gave me enough joy to live through the hard times.
...they weren't all that great. FORGET ABOUT IT. WHO needs this ridiculous opinion by a human who was not on the planet during the time of The Beatles.!!
I read somewhere that the Beatles may have been from the Zeta Riticuli star system....39.17 light years away. Only aliens could compose such incredible music
I’ve only seen Paul two times. And they were the greatest shows I’ve ever been to. I’m old and happy to say that I’ve been to a lot of Rock shows. And can’t wait to see Paul again
It's just extraordinary that these two men were living so close to each other. Legends in their own right, never mind together. INCREDIBLE talents. You get the feeling some external force that none of us will understand made the dream team of John and Paul happen, and the Beatles. It's just too much of a co--incidence.
Paul always my favorite, he had an incredible wife who was an incredible support for him, real Love. We have really never been without the Beatles, each a rich talented musician on their own. So we always heard them even if they weren't together, they still produced music. They didn't just have one sound they evolved and grew along with us, they and their producer when in the Beatles created sounds that weren't part of the musical plane at the time, creative and trail blazers.
I have been very fortunate. I have personally seen David Frost and Paul McCartney. I liked McCartney very much. He was not arrogant. He was very sociable. He spoke to his audience. He was in concert and told his fans how much he appreciated their ongoing support. He said he was told he had a lot of money, but never saw it. He played an honorary set which he dedicated to women of philanthropic accomplishment. His second wife sat in the audience. He did Beatles songs, Wings songs, and played a ukelelei given him by the late George Harrison, who had recently died, singing the song SOMETHING in his honor. He talked about his great affection for John Lennon, and how much he enjoyed Ringo. He was in great voice singing to a full house of young and old. It was utterly magical.
A fabulous interview! WOW! "Maybe I'm amazed at how I love" Paul! His calm presence of mind while looking at moments in his life over the many years just impresses me more than anything he can say. Yet everything he said seems so relaxed, honest & dignified. I never knew this about him.
I wouldn't be the person I am today without having been introduced to the Beatles. Especially Paul. I've been a pianist for 24 years, and Paul certainly inspired me and instilled that passion for music that I have today. He is my absolute hero.
The Beatles were the evolution and the revolution.Lennon and McCartney are the quintessential songwriting team.Hot stuff indeed! The Beethoven's of our time and will be remembered as such.
How can anybody not appreciate that they have lived in the world with a true musical genius ! Yes he is old now but still touring and filling stadiums throughout the world ! I think the most loved musician ever ! Long may he live and hey SirPaul ! Rock On at Glastonbury this June ! 78 or not you will be loved !!!
Paul, you've been bringing joy into my life for 50+ years. Music and interviews giving us a glimpse into your magical mystery tour. Such a giving masterpiece and a class act, Thank you.
What a fantastic interview! I grew up during that time and it was great reminiscing those days and the great music of the Beatles. Paul has had an amazing career after the Beatles moved onto other things. It is certainly worth mentioning that the other three members of the Beatles were successful in their after Beatles career too. Ringo still tours with his All Star Band!
What a gifted talent from God for us to enjoy the musics and voice of Sir Paul McCartney! God bless Sir Paul McCartney and David Frost.....wonderful interview.
One of the most brilliant and riveting pieces I've ever seen. Well made and produced, from start to finish. Paul exemplifies a well rounded down to earth, and humble human being .. Who better to reel this interview together so perfectly than the one and only Sir David ?
The one comment from Paul concerning Ono was interesting. He said she was famous for avant garde art and still is. I don't believe for one second that Yoko was famous until she got John. She may have been known in small circles in NYC, but she wasn't famous until John...
John met Yoko Ono at a gallery showing her work in the UK. Please...do a little elementary research before opening your mouth to comment on Ms. Ono's bonafides. She's an Artist. Always has been. And her actual stature is much higher than the kinds of Philistines who follow The Beatles will ever realize.
The Fluxus Exhibition in London in 1997, which was free I should say, was actually very good, a nice exploration of surreal things. There were also all the Hair Peace posters they made for the bed-in, in frames of course. Interesting to see them.
Thanks Paul for talking so positively about the people from your roots. He's right, there's some great down to earth characters in Liverpool, who are full of wit, intelligence and personality. It amazes me, that he can still hold so much affection for people he left behind in the early 60s.
Lennon was very pessimistic about touring, having to meet people (ie,governors and their wives and family) he despised. Paul seems to have a more positive, optimistic memory. That really defines their difference
No, Paul is more of a people person than John was. Everyone who met the Beatles would say that Paul was the friendliest and most outgoing one. After him, Ringo, then George, and John was the least sociable of the four. So, taking that into account explains perfectly why Paul experienced those things very differently. He loves meeting new people. How that makes him a politician is beyond me.
I love this interview, and have watched it many times over the years, and i now just realized that the last clip Frost shows his is of him interviewing Paul from 1964. I always used to think it was some random interviewer but now it makes so much more sense!
OMG........Paul overrated? Where do I start?........just the number of songs he's written and have you ever really listened to him play bass? He is one of the best bass players to ever live.
Agreed. He also pretty much invented rock bass playing in the first place. He was certainly the first pop/rock bass player to really do anything creative with the bass, rather than just playing standard lines.
The Beatles were, by far, the most over-rated pop/rock band of the century. They only recorded a couple of TRULY great songs (one of them being a song by Harrison). Their fame was due to two main factors: recording very catchy (but NOT, as mentioned, "great") songs and being extant in a decade when there was very little variety of styles in popular music.
Beatles not only recorded dozens of GREAT songs, they saved us from the sadness of a Presidential assassination. They changed culture and brought so much joy to a generation world wide. Your reference to the Beatles Reverend is AFTER listening to them for 50 years. If you were there when they started, you would know they were and are the most influential and innovative group of the 20th Century and maybe ever (Sgt. Pepper comes to mind.) And off the top of my head....Yesterday, Cant Buy Me Love, I Saw Her Standing There, Long and Winding Road, Hey Jude, And I Love Her, Hard Days Night, Help, Strawberry Fields,Eleanor Rigby, A Day in the Life, Here Comes the Sun, Something, Let it Be, Get Back, While My Guitar Gently Weeps........to name a few! And OMG, take a look at the charts in the 60's, you'll see pop, rock, Motown, country songs, instrumentals, and even crooners like Sinatra and Martin.........
bronco devil First of all, you are being PRESUMPTUOUS since I am well over fifty years of age and have been listening to The Beatles since the mid-1960s. Secondly, you mentioned "dozens" of great songs (which, of course, is subjective opinion) which implies at least twenty four such "GREAT" songs. Of those you mentioned, only two or three (at most) are what could be classified as great. I am a university trained composer, guitarist, pianist and musicologist. What are your qualifications, Mr. Devil? Finally, your talk of The Beatles being influential and innovative (which, of course, they were) is TOTALLY inconsequential to the point I was making.
Really? David Frost seemed like he was recovering from a stroke. He lobbed age old softballs at McCartney, who responded in typical image conscious fashion. Smug and a bit full of himself.
He is not a pretender,I agree with you. He doesn't wear masks, so he stays relaxed and perhaps, that is one of his secrets to remain young no matter if his body is aging
This gentleman is an absolute treasure in a world of cynical and greedy agents and managers who want nothing more than to suck the life out of talented musicians just like him. I don't know how he's done it, but it is so, SO refreshing. It gives me a little bit of hope that there IS, in fact, a God. Paul McCartney is a man of faith, benevolence, hope and greatness. He certainly deserves everything that is his, and likely even MORE! Love you, Paul!
Thank you Paul for your comments about the working class no we are not thick Lol.Black music from America, Chuck, Little Richard, so many others found these young men in Liverpool, they embraced it and the world is richer for it.Nothing was given to them, they worked hard for it ( case in point, George Martin trying to get them to release the song which went to Gerry, and they stuck to their beliefs) so to close...thank you Paul,John,George, and Ringo[Richard Starkley] for the songs, they will live on, Peace
Brilliant interview. What a shame that they broke up because thEy were all so close. They lived, partied, sang, and wrote music together. I’m sure they all felt a sense of loss after the breakup. I’ve learned more about the Beatles from watching this and other interviews, etc. Brilliant interview. 💕
+Sveinn Sigurður Actually - it was Frank Sinatra's manager that started hiring young girls to scream when he sung in the 1940's. That is what started it all!!! Colonel Parker did it for Elvis - and I'd guess that started the fad - and the Beatles PROBABLY never paid to have ANY screaming fans! By then - they simply came when the group came and started screaming on their own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fascinating and wonderful post! My father and Stepmother would have probably been enraged at the idea of this......and that the reaction to The Beatles was genuine. "Nowadays, scenes like those that greeted the Beatles in America in February 1964 could be manufactured by any competent publicist with a client who was willing to foot the bill. It would be impossible, though, to manufacture the emotional impact of Beatlemania, both on the Beatles themselves and on America." www.history.com/this-day-in-history/the-beatles-arrive-on-american-shores
Question...if the (teenaged only) girls screamed because the music was so great.... ...Why don't teenaged girls scream when they watch old footage of the Beatles today?
All I really can say is that THE BEATLES got me through Open Heart Surgery when I was 10 years old. I had to have something quiet to do and I learned Guitar. The Beatles have always been my favorite Band and sure I had other British Bands I loved The Rolling Stones Dave Clark 5 Still The Beatles Were Always My Favorite Band.. @@philipjones355 "He blew his mind out in a car" was John's reference his friend, Guinness heir Tara Browne, who died in a car crash. "On 17 December 1966, Browne was driving with his girlfriend, model Suki Potier, in his Lotus Elan through South Kensington at high speed (some reports suggesting in excess of 106 mph/170 km/h). He was under the influence of alcohol and other drugs at the time. Browne failed to see a traffic light and proceeded through the junction of Redcliffe Square and Redcliffe Gardens, colliding with a parked lorry. He died of his injuries the following day. Potier claimed that Browne swerved the car to absorb the impact of the crash to save her life."

I still remember being introduced to the Beatles when my dad was in the Army and I heard them on American radio in germany. I've loved their music even till this day...
In 1963 when I was 9yrs old & in 3rd grade I had an English exchange teacher from Liverpool. Miss Atherton. She was wonderful. She set us up with pen pals from her students back in England. My pen pal, Gillian, wrote saying " We're sending our Beatles & Searchers over to you in America". I thought they were SPORTS TEAMS!🤪 A year later, 1964, my life changed & was never the same once the Fab Four arrived! Eventually married a man from Yorkshire. Thank you Paul for all the inspiration & joy you brought us with John, George & Ringo.
This warmed the cockles of my heart. You, are part of music history and always will be. I recall sitting on the stairs in my parent's house, aged 11, when my older sister said - listen to this - it was 'Yesterday' and even at that age I recall 'this is something special'. So many wonderful songs that you all wrote - too many to name. Now my grandchildren listen to your music and we all sing along. Thank you, Paul.
This will make you cold in the future once "Sir Paul" have been exposed for really being a William. "Yesterday" was REAL JPM's masterpiece while William is just Another day. William's music career is from 1967-2020. Pauls songs is NOT his. So say thank you to William for keeping the Paul McCartney name. I myself doesn't like this fraud.
Eventough Mexico is not part of South America, but of North America, I can tell you that was one of the most wonderful events of our lives for all of us present at Paul's concert at the Zocalo, including crew, musicians, parents, grandparents, and children. That May 10th 2012 night , was a magical one I will cherish forever. Thnks Paul!
+Pablo Villaverde Mexico gets it. collective joy. any Beatle (silly concept) would do the same, perhaps, if they had the chance, took the chance, and if they could. who knows if they would, but none of them even could, and few others outside of that one little band can do what is needed on such a mass multi-generational scale: to inspire and preside over such joy and its function in our lives. i apologize on behalf of someone in manic depressive North America (guess which phase we're in now) who knows something of clotted curdled UK fan talk too. we're all taking Paul for granted merely because of the standards he himself still sets, unparalleled in entertainment history and more importantly in this moment. Mexico is only part of South America in that they get it too. RUclips shows which hemisphere celebrates life as long and rich in terms of this one man's entire output as our common language in popular modern music and joins in the opportunity that an in person concert appearance facilitates, and which hemisphere causes the oldies-heavy setlist with an undying forced contextual overlay of the 1960's as retrospectively viewed and fiddles with their phones when its time to clap or singalong to something new, which is never how you create more in the first place. which do you suspect elicits a better performance from Paul? keep on rocking in the free world.
When I hear in interviews "then the Beatles broke up..." I have never lived in a world without the Beatles...and as I have thought about it, looking back on my youth, I now at 52, each member of that group was/is extremely talented and gifted and on their own kept putting out music, so even though they were not "the group", they were still growing in life along with us providing part of a sound track to many of our lives...their voices like the moon, the sun and the wind of comfort...and joy💖 How great to have music and words attached to memories of happier times with people... I was so lucky a friend bought me a ticket to see Paul a few years ago and I couldn't believe I was seeing and hearing him perform

This probably the BEST interview of Paul McCartney I've ever seen and David Frost made Paul very comfortable to open up.
Have you seen the Carpool Karaoke with James Corden? It's a beautiful mix of music, and wonderful stories. It's different than this one, but wonderful as well.

StartabandRoxy George and Dylan got along very well.
waybetterthanjeff Yes, but I was talking about the attitude George carried himself with.
David Frost another legend..... The warmth and friendship between the two of them speaks volumes .
I think Paul just loves to perform live, its what a real musician loves to do. That's why he aint retiring any time soon nor should he.

StevieMuso Very well said.

The one comment from Paul concerning Ono was interesting. He said she
was famous for avant garde art and still is. I don't believe for one
second that Yoko was famous until she got John. She may have been known
in small circles in NYC, but she wasn't famous until John...
I think he sorta said that as a "nod" to her. I agree with u.
But the two of them have tried to bury the hatch now they old...
Interesting to see them.
goofydog2 John was the only true talent she ever had!

Thanks Paul for talking so positively about the people from your roots. He's right, there's some great down to earth characters in Liverpool, who are full of wit, intelligence and personality. It amazes me, that he can still hold so much affection for people he left behind in the early 60s.
This is Billy. Paul died in 1966.
Frost died shortly after this interview. He was the McCartney of interviewing and journalism
Frost was extremely ugly
Lennon was very pessimistic about touring, having to meet people (ie,governors and their wives and family) he despised. Paul seems to have a more positive, optimistic memory. That really defines their difference
in other words, lennon was honest and paul's a politician...
Both are subjective views so saying one was honest and implying the other was not is e bias in itself.
More like paul knew he had to play the game. And john would have more fun flipping the table.
Opposites attract
I love this interview, and have watched it many times over the years, and i now just realized that the last clip Frost shows his is of him interviewing Paul from 1964. I always used to think it was some random interviewer but now it makes so much more sense!
Paul from 1964 was another Paul McCartney then the one we have today.
He is THE LEGEND not A LEGEND...
This is a great interview with some great questions!
He was just a man.

Colonel Parker did it for Elvis - and I'd guess that started the fad - and the Beatles PROBABLY never paid to have ANY screaming fans! By then - they simply came when the group came and started screaming on their own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Paul for all the inspiration & joy you brought us with John, George & Ringo.
"Sir Paul" is really a William.
I love how at 35:50, Paul leaned in his chair to tell his story and Robert leaned as well out of excitement
I met Paul. & Linda as my boyfriend was Paul’s cousin was my boyfriend. They were lovely warm people, still love you Paul, so sad for you about Linda.
Hello pretty 🌹🌹🌹
Pablo Villaverde Looks like a good time was had by all. 😀
I saw the Beatles at Shea Stadium, NY August 15, 1965. Wondering how many of us left.
My mom saw them in SF
@@TimMillernapavalleyfilmworks Hey Tim, I knew about that concert, very cool. Is your mom still alive? I hope so. We were all alike back then.
@@kevincerce5056 she's alive and well. She was the first Beatles fan at her high school and brought records to class, no one knew them.
@@TimMillernapavalleyfilmworks She's one of us, God bless her!
What a joy to listen to this creative, beautiful man ! We are so very blessed to witness the many talents this man has to offer ! And....he’s remained a very down to earth guy, after all these years ! I love you Paul !
