    The greatest Clough moment i ever saw was the press conference when Trevor Francis signed for Forest. Friday night, Francis just signed, the press are interviewing him. Clough and Taylor are sitting in on it. Francis is answering all the press questions then one guy asks, “Trevor, when do you think you'll play your first game for Nottingham Forest?” Quick as a flash, before Francis could answer, Cloughie immediatlely says, “When i pick 'im!”

    I was born in 83, so have largely followed Brian Clough retrospectively. His famed confidence is something that continues to fascinate generations, because authentically it is only available to those who've seemingly conquered the one battle that endures through life, You versus You. We know that this cannot be entirely true, but to witness a person project it is contagious to those around them. That is a major part of being a great leader, having full conviction in one's ability to do a job or achieve an aim in life. It can't be taught, or there'd be universities making a killing. It's more than believing, it's KNOWING.

As a proud Scotsman I've always believed Brian Clough would've become England's finest ,most successful manager to the extent saw England World Cup Winners & be regularly in the final that's how highly I rate Cloughie. His methods the players would've enjoyed each given simple instructions ,to keep the ball on the deck not in the clouds Likes Shanks & Clough teams played Total Football long before Dutch were given the credit. Those that's played for Brian Clough talk about how enjoyable it was on daily basis John Robertson, Martin O,Neil credit Cloughie with transforming them into Winners Back to Back European Cup Winners Inc defeated great Liverpool team with Nottingham Forest who weren't seen as one off BIG CLUBS .
    Every young footballer should watch everything they can ,listen & learn Every new young budding Manager should study Brian Clough 4,4,2 kept it simple Goalkeeper, Defenders,Midfielders ,Strikers knew their job .
    Busby,Stein
    Shankly,Clough & Taylor brewing up
    Imagine being round table with those geniuses. Brian's said in interviews now he loved Shanks like a father.Players saw that respect final whistle Cloughie was in full flow when knock on dressing room door ,players expected Cloughie to tell the knocker were to go NO welcomed man in and invited him talk to players .That man was Bill Shankly Only person Brian Clough would've allowed .Now Brian you've earned same greatness ,players ,managers alike are in total awe .Game just isn't the same without true ,honest,fearless characters whom players dare,nt step out off line or be OFF, OFF YOU GO Managers who ruled ,controlled whole Club ,Even told Chairmen to wait outside for him & such was respect they apologised & waited .LOL

      One of my favourite cloughy quotes is one not often cited anywhere and its as deep as they come.
      "You can talk and talk and talk about your profession, but then you've got to go and do it. It's no good trying to convince someone you're right, you've got to provide the example and then talk about it".
      Lost on many football pundits in the game today who are stealing a living.

      @stevebell4853 2 года назад +3

      @@CronoXpono My personal annoyance is pundits who clearly should not be working in the game but who seem to think their opinions are vital to the game. I was given a recent example by Glen Johnson. He claimed that Lingard going to Forest was about money,, and in the very same breath, then went on to claim he would have got more money at West Ham. Think about that for a second, the total contradiction in one breath - because by definition, if that was true, then by definition Lingards move couldnt have been about the money. It's the ilk of these people who simply dont think before they talk, that should be washed away so that the rest of us can have some time to think about and enjoy the game. So much noise to cut through.
      ....and then dont get me started about agents. I could rant about those guys all day and a week!

    • @stevebell4853
      @stevebell4853 2 года назад +2

      @@CronoXpono Another really good example of that quote by clough was Gary Neville. Now dont get me wrong, I really really like Neville. He actually DOES know how to provide examples to talk about, but what clough was driving at, is that its not enough to have opinions on the game and try to convince everyone your opinion are right, what he was driving at is that you shouldnt get to sit in a studio and tell people how the gane should be played until you've got out onto a training pitch and got 11 guys to play in a way that proves you are right. What happened when Neville tried to do that? He bombed. He went to Valencia and proved he couldnt do it. I feel a bit bad for using him as the classic example because I really like the bloke, but at the end of the day he is the archetypal example of what clough was talking abuot. Gary Neville has for years tried to talk to people about how football should be played, but when given the chance to go out and actually do it, rather than talk about it, he completely flopped it. In Neville's defence, he'll readily admit this to be the case, he doesn't shirk it. Fair play to him for at least trying to go out and provide an example rather than just talk the talk, but thats exactly what Clough was getting at. Provide the example....win something.....get 11 lads to run through brick walls for you......THEN sit in a studio and tell people how it should be done once you've shown how its done.
