    Tneres a common mistake conception that a better sensor can somehow give worse images. The higher rez sensors allow you to zoom in closer which make things appear softer. Diffraction is a light bending phenomenon that is exactly the same for a given aperture no matter how many megapixels the sensor has. So by being able to zoom in on a smaller portion of the image you will see softening. But at the same aperture and viewing size, the R5 will have the same sharpness as the Eos R. You don't go backwards in image quality. The diffraction limited aperture just limits how much better the higher res sensor can be at the same viewing size . But you do not go backwards. My R5 is producing sharper images than my 5D mkiii all the way to F 16. If you get the chance test this with your Eos R.

    Thank you for sharing your views! Love your spider! I picked up a EOS R5 a month back and I have been extremely impressed with the results. I use it with a MPE-65 and the IBIS make it a lot easy to use. I click at 1/250 & F/16 and still get postable shots. Since MPE-65 doesn't have autofocus, I am unable to do the auto focus stacking. Hope to pick a 100mm tokina soon!

    Note to self; don't test an out of my budget, high megapixel full frame. Thanks for taking on the temptation for us Stewart👍

    The diffraction is a lens issue, more megapixels just lets you see it.

      In Australia it is nearly 7k without a lens. Yeah nah, not for me. I just got a Nikon Z7 for way cheaper with a lens. I don't need to focus on people jumping on a trampoline or birds in flight so take that aspect out of the equation and I have image quality that is at least on par if not a touch better in my opinion.

    Finally, someone who used an R5 and all its mega pixel for macro. Can’t wait to see your review. Do you think the diffraction is due to the high mega pixels or because the Mpe-65 is an old lense (which I loved btw) ?

    • @tkermi
      @tkermi 3 года назад

      Yes! 🙂 I think it's just the 45Mp causing it. The DLA limit for this sensor (based on 2,5x airy disc/pixel) is about f/8.3.
      But with macro you can see the softening from DLA so easily because most of the lenses are designed to be compact and loose light (like with teleconverters). So for example when they are set at f/11 they are that only when focused to infinity.
      The real effective aperture at different magnifications vary between manufacturers and lens models. But for some Laowa lenses you can calculate the actual aperture by:
      Actual f = shown f x (1 + magnification)
      So for 1:1 magnification when you have chosen f/11 from the lens the actual aperture is f/22. And for 2:1 it's f/33.

    Is it the number of megapixels, or the size of the sensor? I've never been sure about that...

    • @StewartWoodArt
      @StewartWoodArt  Год назад

      Megapixels means you can crop in more, but can suffer from diffraction sooner. Sensor size can affect the magnification and depth of field.

    Bonjour et merci pour vos video instructive. Je suis devant un choix cornélien, prendre le R5 mais voilà apparemment j'ai lu qu'il est impossible de faire du focus stacking avec le flash en mode manuel car le R5 utilise l'obturateur electronique,pouvez vous me confirmer cela et peut être comment contourner le problème ?
    Hello and thank you for your informative video. I am faced with a difficult choice, take the R5 but apparently I read that it is impossible to do focus stacking with the flash in manual mode because the R5 uses the electronic shutter, can you confirm this for me and perhaps how to get around the problem?
