    PERFECT TIMING! I just started researching headphones for immersive audio production.

  • @BigMTBrain
    @BigMTBrain Год назад +2

    QUESTIONS: @ 7:06 "the headphones have a head tracker included and also a DSP that will essentially take this 8 channel audio and will convert that into a stereo depending on the position of those headphones". 1) Does this essentially mean that if you are NOT moving your head, you will not perceive directional information other than stereo, and that the sense of immersion only appears as the stereo mix adjust with your head movements? 2) If so, is this also how the Apple Air Pods work with immersive audio? 3) If so if so, do all binaural headphones simulate immersion by adjusting the stereo mix according to head position? Thanks.

      @michaelgwagner  Год назад +2

      Good questions!
      1) You never receive directional information if you don’t move your head. You ears can’t process audio that way. What you do with binaural rendering is that you trick your brain into thinking it receives directional information but it never really does. I’m honestly not completely sure if the headphone renders binaurally. I would guess it doesn’t.
      2) Yes, pretty much.
      3) No, they usually don’t. Only Airpods and a few others like the HyperX do.

    Many thanks for this video. Do you have a recommendation how to set this up on macOS? You recently suggested me to use Loopback what perfectly works for similar usecases.

    I also backed the Mobius kickstarter- sold them for a minor loss after 6 months. You gave a good overview of the launch expectations and poor reception. Good to know the tech has now resurfaced in another better affordable headphone.

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  Год назад

      Yes, that was very unfortunate. In their defense, they did try their best to work with their customers. I even got a personal call from the Audeze CEO.

    • @kingpossie
      @kingpossie Год назад

      Yes it comes with the territory of being a first adopter. Kudos to them for sticking to it - it seems the Audeze Maxwell fulfills the promise of the Mobius.

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  Год назад

      Unfortunately, the Maxwell doesn't do head tracking which you would need for the purpose of immersive audio production.

    The ne plus ultra for immersive monitoring in headphones is probably the Smyth Realizer A16, which can be used with a number of different industry standard headphones out-of-the-box, or adapted to others. It's in a completely different league of price, of course.

      Yes, I had looked at this before. Seems a bit overkill.

    is it better than audeze mobius? in terms of sound quality, sound stage, seperation and other technical peformance?

    Steer clear of these folks. The Y yokes break on everyone's from about a year to 2 years into owning them . I'm looking into 3d printed replacement hinges now..

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  Год назад

      I think they are a bit tight. I can see them breaking under certain circumstances. I have a rather large head and have broken many headphones over the years. Did not have issues with these yet though.

      So what would you recommend? I just built my first gaming pc - GB Aorus elite b650 ax/7800x3d/3060ti/32GB G Skill Trident @6000/2TB Samsung 980 Pro ssd/Be Quiet! Dark Rock cpu cooler & 500FX case/Corsair RMX 750 - and I’m going to be on DCS World, so I need headphones that have head tracking ability. I could get a separate head tracking camera but it would be easier to have it built into the headphones.

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  Год назад +1

      Nice PC! These are the only headphones with integrated headtracking that you can use globally in your system. Headphones such as the Airpods or similar do have headtracking but that is always locked to certain applications or operating systems.

    • @catsooey
      @catsooey Год назад

      @@michaelgwagner Thanks! I took my time building. The moment when I hit the power switch for the first time and saw the rgb’s light up was amazing! And thanks for answering my question - that was one of my biggest concerns since I need head tracking for DCS World. So it will save me $100 on a separate head tracking setup, plus I’ll have headphones with 3d sound. I think I’m sold on these puppies, thanks for your help! 😀

    worst headset I've ever bought in my entire life, and I've owned several, I'm a gamer and I've been buying parts since the 90s, I already own different models and brands of headphones and my first and last experience with HyperX was buying this one crap orbit S, they denied me the warranty due to a physical defect, and the phone opened cracks everywhere in less than 1 month of use, and I'm extremely annoying and cautious with my computer stuff.
    Not even the 5 dollar crap from Leadership that I bought at the supermarket was a problem like that.
    I paid 280 euros, it broke in 1 month, I had to patch it completely with durex and silvertape because the warranty refused to return the money or give me another phone because the defect was physical
    I don't buy anything else from HyperX Kingston and HP, I know they are the same company
    I cannot be left with a guarantee that is not a guarantee.
    I hope more people become aware of poor hyperx quality and guarantee.

    Calidad de sonido excelente pero la vida útil por lo menos a mí me duraron 2 años y algo. Se partieron el plástico de muy mala calidad y eso que los cuidaba y no los usaba tanto y la cuerina se les cae, fatal!! En otras palabras no los recomiendo para nada mejor vayan por unos Beyerdynamic o Bose.

    These are awful. I got a pair and the swivel headset started to have cracks appear in the plastic. Got a one-time courtesy repair from HP and it broke in 4 months. Don't get this. The features are gimmicky.

      Nope, doing fine, love it so much, since Corsair HS70Pro, HyperX alpha S, Arctis 5, Epos H6pro, Arctis Nova Pro wired, this is the final and I found it’s the best for my Warzone 2.
      Yup, at first no sound, send back to claim warranty for another replacement, after that working fine until now.
