    Hi. Great video.
    Can I ask how do you treat stereo sources when you want to use them as objects?
    I use Cubase/Nuendo, I know I can "fold" them down to mono by are there any good practices when dealing with stereo objects?

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but if you use the “headphone only” setting, the mix will fall apart when you change to regular Atmos… yeah you can still use binaural mode but not “headphone only mode” at least in regular pro tools (not ultimate)

    What I mant to know is, since (unlike logic/cubase) Pro tools uses the renderer as the playback device and then the renderer sends audio to your monitors & headphones through your interface. How would I use sonarworks to calibrate my headphones? or use something like the "Dear VR Monitor"?

    What's the point in Dolby Atmos Binaural renderer having near,mid,far IR settings for each object, but none of it coming through to DD+JOC playback? Likewise, what's the point Dolby stating the Binaural Renderer isn't to be used for making mixing decisions, yet it's said around 80% of music is listened to on headphones, but nobody can hear what that will sound like (especially Apple Music) until fully published? Likewise, why do Dolby prevent any binaural rendering at alll when using the Dolby Atmos renderer on Windows DAWS like Nuendo & Davinci Resolve.

    • @RayanTelleria
      @RayanTelleria 11 месяцев назад

      For binaural rendering only, couldn’t you create a virtual channel and set the output of the renderer and the input of the audio track in the DAW to it, then just print while listening on your desired binaural settings?

    The only problem with the Binaural Render Mode settings in the Dolby Atmos Renderer is that that metadata is not transmitted through the DD+JOC coded that is used by Apple Music and Amazon Music HD streaming services. On top of that, Apple is using their own renderer altogether and not the Dolby Atmos Renderer that you use to monitor when you create your Dolby Atmos mix.

      The whole technology is turning into a shilled joke that’s going to destroy not only music but careers…. It’s a total disaster that’s getting pushed way way too hard…. The public doesn’t want it, but there’s a need to know better than the consumer to push something on them? The only way to mix this stuff properly is investing close to a quarter million dollars for an entry level setup, that’s pretty ridiculous, and mastering it, lol yeah that’s where it’s ludicrous… Are they really suggesting mixing on headphones for a customer that has a 15 channel system? C’mom….

      @@robertw1871 While I don't disagree that this tech is in a sad state currently, it does not require anywhere near that much to get a basic setup going. You can get a full 7.1.4 system up and running for around $10k if you're smart and pick the right pieces. That being said, most of the installs I've helped with have been closer to $25-50k. But, I have also helped with a retrofitting a couple of rooms on a budget for around $11-14k for those.
      You can actually get started for cheap on headphones to learn the tech and get a feel for whether the investment is worth it before diving in. I know several top-level pros who went this route before making the decision to invest. But, the point is you don't *need* to spend tons of money to get started with Atmos. There are options for learning and retrofitting rooms at somewhat reasonable prices.

    I’m a bit frustrated. When will you do tutorials using Logic Pro?
    I must have watched a dozen Atmos videos and they all use Pro Tools.
    Dolby and Avid must be holding hands with each other financially.
    I know this video is advanced but previous videos aren’t even “step by step” for beginners.
    But, I’m determined to succeed with Spacial audio mixing.
    Give Logic a hand, okay?

    I am having trouble including the meta data when I render out my ADM files. The option to "apply program level meta-data" is greyed out and when I load the ADM file into a new session, the audio is fine but the object meta-data is missing. Any idea why that would be?

    It’s rather odd that nobody with any real professionalism advises mixing on headphones even for stereo, now Atmos is a headphone technology? Is that because after years it has almost no consumer adoption? I see a disaster coming in the form of really bad mixing just to try and push something that’s far too expensive and complicated for any real widespread use…

    Your binaural renderer (not only yours but all renderers in the world) is NOT ACCURATE.
    It cannot localize at the most important in front (but typically localize at around your forehead or behind or unknown space)
    Next important +/- 30 degree on horizontal plane also cannot be rendered. (It is rendered to very high elevation)
    +/- 90 degree on horizontal plane is so so, but a bit high elevation.
    +/- 135 degree on horizontal plane is good.
    Localizing at lower than horizontal seems impossible.
    Personalization of HRTF cannot solve the problems. Head tracking cannot solve the problems, too.
    Problem is not only localization. It will change sound color and lose tightness & clarity of the sound.
    These are not subtle quality issues only for audio mania. All the people can easily recognize the problems soon after hearing the sound. Then they will lose their interest for spatial sound.
    Why do you tout Atmos for headphone eagerly in this situation?

      Can you list a few songs where you think the Dolby Atmos mix is gimmicky compared to the stereo mix. Also, did you get that "gimmicky" feeling when listen to the Binaural Mix (which streaming service) or when you listen on your 7.1.4 Speaker Setup?

    • @scoremix8556
      @scoremix8556 2 года назад +2

      its not a gimmick. Its a future proofed format. Unliej discrete surround formats its real tme rendered ... MEANING any future formats can be rendered to. THAT is the real point of Atmos and other object based formats. It enables us to have re-deliverbale assets as needs change.

    • @billB101

      If you think it's a gimmick then you really need to listen in an Atmos enabled studio.
