great insights as always! when do you expect high end headphones like the wireless HED Unity to be headtracking-compatible with the renderer? Currently very excited, that studio one got a major atmos update and now im hoping that i can make use of the wireless headtracking goodness. Thanks in advance
I'll check that. All of this implementation and convenience will depend on the commercial scope. Let's await the next chapters.. Thanks so much,@@michaelgwagner
Great man !! I tryed to find this option in my Nuendo 12 pro, but I guess Steinberg is a bit behind, but I hope they will do it in a update soon. Thanx again for explaining me and getting me into the Dolby SAtmos thing. I do have a 7.1.4 studio with speaker setup, but this is a great thing when I´m on the road touring and so.. So again - Thank you so much, and I did by the way mention your channel in my "Dolby Atmos Studio" setup video here on RUclips :-) Keep them coming mr. Michael 🙂
I was thinking of looking into this. They do exist. For this purpose it would not help though since you can use the external renderer workflow only on a Mac anyway.
Very cool! Would love to see a workflow with FacePoseHeadTracker and Logic Pro or Resolve Fairlight (without the standalone Dolby Atmos Renderer). I imagine that it'll require sending out the tracks to Virtuoso or something like it.
Nice review ... Still not convinced that head tracking is great for mixing in atmos... but i will give it a go and see how it compares to the 7.1.4 atmos room
@@michaelgwagner Kind of meant i am not sure that when you turn your head it represents a similar feeling to being in the Atmos room... So i will give it a try and see if i feel similar:) I used Waves NX with the head tracker on a lot of stereo mixs ... Anything that makes Atmos more accessible to the masses has got to be good :)
Yes, I know what you mean. It depends on how well the binaural render works for you and that is highly individual. The option of a personalized hrtf would be nice.
Dear Mr. Wagner thank you for your videos about the dolby atmos technology, they are very interesting. I would like to ask if there is the possibility to add in the dolby renderer or the osc software the individual head measures and headphone type that one person is using to further enhance the binaural rendering.
Will this computer run the program dolby atmos renderer. Need to know asap. HP Omen 870-224 Gaming PC. I5 CPU, 16 gigs of RAM, 1 Terabyte hard drive, NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1060 3Gig RAM, DVD Writer/ Player, 1000 LAN, 7-in-1 memory card reader
Depends what you use it for. In principle, yes. However, in order to use the renderer in a production environment you need a Mac. On Windows you can only use it to play back Atmos master files.
But you would need a way to route the 128 audio channels from one system to the otherwhich is usually done with two high end audion interfaces. Such a setup is costly and usually no longer done these days.
Hi Michi! Wie immer sehr informatives Video! ich malch mal english weiter: I wonder whether this would work with the apple iPods Max too, as they have inbuilt head-tracking... Have you stumbled upon any information about this during your research?
Vielen Dank! The Airpods are pretty much locked to Logic. Reading out the tracking info is possible (I did a video about this a while back), but it is very difficult to make use of that tracking info outside of Apple’s own software.
I know, but the renderers that are included in the DAWs internally have limited functionality. Pro Tools is not the only DAW that uses an internal renderer.
I don't have the option to select OSC head tracker in the Dolby Atmos Renderer. It says "No head tracking drivers available". I there something more than the NXOSC I need to install?
@@michaelgwagner It turned out to be an issue with the Dolby Atmos Render installer that didn't intall the head tracker drivers correctly. But I got it figured out and didn't have to install the Supperware plugin
Can you answer my question please sir,for a project like this if you want to burn it. What type of format you are going to be able to make it for example DVD audio style or blu ray music because so far nobody has giving me a real answer yet. Please can you help me a little bit sir.
This is something I do not know tbh. My understanding is that Atmos is primarily a streaming format, but I could be wrong. For DVD or Blue Ray you would have to render in the fotmats this media support.
Not with the external renderer. That one is Mac only right now. You should be able to play masterfiles with head tracking though. It’s only the DAW integration that is not available in Windows.
Thanks for the video, fyi facepose is not available on the app store (or maybe just in the US) I'll have to hack my waves nx.
Thanks! You’re right, it’s currently not available in the app store. That’s very unfortunate!

I wonder that myself. I’m not seeing anybody jump into that space (yet). I think there would be a market for such headphones.
Moin Michael, gute interessante Informationen wie immer, vielen Dank 🙏
You’re very welcome!
Hi Michael! Looking forward to seeing this natively on Cubase as well. Thanks for your super educative videos!!
Thanks! Nuendo can, sort of, do that, but not in the Dolby Atmos workflow. Would indeed be nice if they include it in Cubase/Nuendo.

Cubase / Nuando 12 implement the previous Dolby renderer. Let's wait for the next Steinberg version.
@@SamuelLeTonqueze - Oh yes 😃😃
Any recommendations on a similar app to FacePos for Windows? Hoping to use something like for head-tracking in APL Virtuoso.

Great idea, I’ll put it on my list.
Will the Fiedler have this also soon? I thought under the hood it is all Dolby tech...would be cool!!
Thomas Fiedler is fairly active on our Discord in case you want to ask him directly. ;) I would guess he considers it but I am not entirely sure.

It is, of course, the second best option. But it is a viable option.

Couldn’t enable the camera with face pose tracking on my Mac… using external camera (Logitech) 😣
Yes, unfortunately it seems to not work with an external webcam. At least not on a MacBook.
Hi Michael. Really like your videos. Have yo8u thought of explaining how sp[acial sound works and how it benifits to sound engineers.
I did that a long time ago and it probably makes sense to revisit that in a new video. i‘ll put that on my list. Thanks for the suggestion!

The Mac system you are quoting is an old Intel based one. You are much better off with a cheap Apple Silicon system.

Is this implemented in the Dolby renderer that is now built in to protools ?
Good question. This is usually not part of the renderers internal to DAWs.
The Dolby renderer now is included in ProTools

For the Dolby Atmos Renderer yes, it would need a custom plugin and that is not available for Waves.
