During the meantime, if you are being encouraged to react to some scary movies for October, my friend, I have two movies to recommend that are just spooky, but not horror. They are "The Sixth Sense" (1999) starring Bruce Willis and "Signs" (2002) starring Mel Gibson. The director for both of them is M. Night Shyamalan and I know you will enjoy them even though they have some jump scares. However, they are the fun kind of jump scares, and you won't be traumatized by them.
