Yep, I was thinking about him too. And he posted decent figures anywhere he went, so imagine what he could have done if somebody had trusted him! BTW, if we are talking De Berg, then we ought to talk Bono - 14 seasons for 7 different teams.
Before Chris Chandler and Vinny Testaverde, there was Steve DeBerg who played on 8 NFL teams between 1977 and 1993. He returned to play in the NFL as Chandler's backup in 1998 and was on the Atlanta Falcons' roster in Super Bowl XXXIII at the age of 45 years, 12 days.

ugh! I love the fact that you work so hard to find all these backups. Kind of fitting. You are indeed the next great backup. Thank God for RUclips backups.
Fitzmagic is a evil genius that has always known how to beat the system by getting paid to literally sit on a bench..plays 2-3 good games Fitz-ah okay I’m good I’ll sit this one out coach Coach-get your ass back out there Fitz-okay..6 picks and few sacks later ;) sorry coach the ball had a weird spin on it couldn’t be helped lol
Fitz is the journeyman GOAT. He's an awesome personality and, sometimes, an amazing QB. He's one of very few QBs to beat Tom Brady with the Bills. That deserves a spot in Canton on it's own.
And beat the Pats on Dolphins...IN NEW ENGLAND! When Pats had to win to secure first round bye...Fins woulda been worst team ever in 2019 without him (because Rosen sucks!)
And lo, Fitzy has gotten a decent new home. Fins starter and mentor to Tua. He even strung together a very impressive 5-3 end to the season capped by destroying Bill Bellichick's defense in week 17. Great guy as always to take the over on.
You failed to mention on the fact that certain teams LOVE JOURNEYMAN QB'S! If you look up the Cardinals history, in the late 80's early 90's, they started 5 Journeyman QB's, Chris Chandler, Jim McMahon, Steve Beuerlein, Jay Schroeder, and Dave Krieg. Krieg started for 6 teams starting with the Seahawks in 1980 before ending his career in TN in 1998, Jim McMahon after his Bears stint played for 6 more teams (including a practice squad stint) and ironically winning another ring as the backup QB to Favre and the Packers, Jay Schroeder played for 4 teams before ending his career with the Cards in 1994, you already explained Chandler, and Beuerlein played for 6 teams until 2003. All 5 QB's played for the Cardinals between 1992-95! To me, this shows when a team simply doesn't care about winning or their future, this is why teams like the Redskins are laughing stocks because prioritize free agency over drafting. This is also why there hasn't been a Free Agent vs Free Agent Super Bowl since 37 (Brad Johnson vs Rich Gannon), because the AFC has been dominated by Big Ben, Manning, and Brady since this millennium began (except for 3 years when the Ravens and Raiders made SB's 35, 37, and 47).
@A-A-Ron I’d love to see him get traded again. At this point, he’s the goat of backups, and I want to see him play for as many teams as possible before he hangs it up. He’s gonna have a badass man cave full of jerseys on the wall.
Hello? The next great "arm for hire" is going to be Case Keenum. Bounced from the Texans, Rams, Texans (again), Rams (again), Vikings, Broncos, and now with the Redskins on a one year deal. He bought himself years of relevance thanks to leading the Vikings to the NFC Championship. His legend still has room to grow since he's only 31 years old.
Remember Matt Flynn? Got a crap ton of money from the Seahawks for one game that Rodgers sat and got to player with all his weapons. But Seattle drafted Wilson and never looked back. Flynn was awful everywhere else he went.
Nice you talked about my uncle, Chris Chandler! All of our extended family wish he had gotten more of a chance to start longer for teams, although with his injury history I can understand a lack of willingness to start him. Some more highs and lows were a game with a perfect passer rating on the Oilers in 1995, and a 6 interception game on his last team, the Rams, in 2004 (at least he made a 75 yard touchdown pass!) He also had the record for starting (not just playing) on the most different teams with 8 until Ryan Fitzpatrick tied it and then broke it when he joined the Dolphins.
Tim West ehhh didn’t he only start for the bengals and lions? Either way 4 teams isn’t too crazy, qbs like Palmer, favre, and mcnabb played for 3-4 teams over their longer careers
Tommy Thalacker I wouldn’t say he saved them but he’s a huge reason why they’re relevant. Not a single playoff win in the entire franchise’s history until he got there and he delivered them a SB in just a few years. Deserves a mention at least.
Shabe you’re definitely right. For some reason I thought the saints had a bye that year and lost in the divisional. Still though, one playoff win in their entire history until Brees and Payton is pretty damn bad.
I love Vinny Testaverde, I'm just so happy for him that he hung in for so long when his Tampa bay era alone should've crushed his spirits. He cobbled together a good career out of complete rubble, and managed to gain the respect of coaches like Bill Parcells (a big Vinny backer) & Bill Belichick. It was fun for me to watch his career. I feel a good comparison to Vinny is Norm Snead, the 1960's/70's QB who played forever and managed to do a little bit of something at every professional stop he made.
0:14 - 0:22 just listened to this, without seeing the visual, then re-watched this portion to see if there was a photo/film of Dilfer. I love it when I'm right!
Becoming a journeyman backup QB in the NFL is one of the harder things to achieve. Consider all of the Senior College QB's each year who enter or have a chance to be evaluated on an NFL roster and then to become a journeyman for 10 plus years requires quite a bit of luck, right place at right time, talent, toughness and having an opportunity to play. Chances are incredibly low
It is actually quite interesting to see how some quarterbacks just find a way to last and be on so many teams because they aren't good enough to be the long-term solution but they seem to always be good enough for at least a short-term possibility or the mentor. I actually still remember when Josh McCown was on the Raiders in 2007. He was never great but I do remember he had a couple really crazy good games. One of which he threw three touchdown passes against the Broncos and a very dominant win. It was the late 2000s so that was the era when the Broncos would have a hot start to the season all the far all apart late in the season and the Raiders who were bad as usual face them at the right time
Steve DeBerg is the player who came to mind for me when I think of journeyman. He played for six different franchises, five of them between 1978 and 1993. Then he came out of retirement to be CHRIS MILLER’S backup for Atlanta in 1998. He is the rare case where a starting-caliber journeyman backed up another journeyman. He also preceded two HOF QBs in Montana and Elway. How could you forget my man Steve!
Nick Foles, Whatever happens from here on out, where ever he goes and whoever he plays for, considered a journeyman or not. He'll always be a Superbowl MVP. As for the families of these QBs'. Gotta feel bad for them. Literally moving to another state every year, in some of these cases.
Chris Chandler was one of my favorite "locally grown" (Puget Sound region) QB's. That Arizona team, in 1993, was going to be special, having an incredible rookie RB, Hearst, and a talented young QB... cue Buddy Ryan in 1994, and the Cardinals get F'd in the A...
Lil Chromosome yeah, but there’s a hitch in their plan, they got him when everyone expected him to be bad. The Fitz Patrick phenomenon, no expectations = amazing performance, leading to expectations = horrible performance.
I saw Daniel Orton and I have to say he has to be one of the Greatest Backup QBs ever. This next generation will be great too! Watch out for Teddy Bridgewater, Marcus Mariota, Nick Foles, Blake Bortles, and Famous Jameis is still baking his patented Fresh... Pick 6 Turnovers wherever he goes.
People remember Niel O’Donnell because he threw the ball directly to Larry Brown twice and then was the Jets starter the next season. It went as well as you would expect, and perhaps even worse: 1-15
If you ever make an update to this, Andy Dalton is in this category now. Signed as a backup for Dak, then as a backup for Fields, then as a backup for Winston, now as a backup/mentor for Bryce Young. Nice work if you can get it. Dude has been paid $17M over 3 years to be a backup/stopgap.
As a Bucs fan, I genuinely loved Fitz as QB. Yeah him and Jameis are essentially the same QB, but at least Fitz has a likable personality. Also never forget who they got rid of to draft Vinny 1st overall, Steve Young.
When you say bad what level do you mean 1-Brad Johnson (highest level) 2-Trent Dilfer 3-Ryan Tannehill 4-Andy Dalton 5-Josh McCown 6-Ryan Fitzpatrick 7-Matt Cassel 8-Ryan Leaf (lowest level)
@Mr. Dalton can't even get a win this year so far and he got benched in favor of a unproven ryan finley tannehill however is good that is why he is 3rd on the list
How did Steve Deberg not make this list? The guy was the quintessential journeyman QB having played for SF, Denver, Tampa(x2), Miami, Atlanta, KC and had a 20 year career. Mark Brunell was a good journeyman as well. He played in GB, JAX, Washington, New Orleans, and the Jets over a 17 year career. Or Dave Kreig. 6 teams, 19 years(12 with Seattle). He also played in KC, Detroit, Arizona, Chicago, Tennessee(Oilers).

No kidding. A lot of these guys will make more in their decade or so as a journeyman than most of us will make in a couple lifetimes.
Being a somewhat capable backup on a successful team as a qb would be great
ugh! I love the fact that you work so hard to find all these backups. Kind of fitting. You are indeed the next great backup. Thank God for RUclips backups.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, went to Harvard and everywhere he goes he ends up starting.
Rich Gannon , Steve DeBerg , Dave Kraig , Doug Flutie , Warren Moon ,
Fitzmagic is a evil genius that has always known how to beat the system by getting paid to literally sit on a bench..plays 2-3 good games
Fitz-ah okay I’m good I’ll sit this one out coach
Coach-get your ass back out there
Fitz-okay..6 picks and few sacks later ;) sorry coach the ball had a weird spin on it couldn’t be helped lol
THIS. The guy is just trolling the owners, coaches and the whole nfl circus. The guy has a master's in ba and he went to harvard too.
Ya, but those 2-3 games are unreal good... like best in the league good... and then he comes back to reality
Legend for putting the start time at beginning of sponsor
Jake Delhomme, Trent Dilfer, Trent Green just to name a few more
I feel so bad for Josh Rosen, never got a chance, in Arizona they didn't want him since they got Murray, same with Miami.
"Josh Mccown going strong as ever." Ok so he not going strong at all.
Josh McCown will always b known as a decent quarterback!
He from the same draft class as drew Brees so he tied with Brees for third longest active players in the nfl
Josh McCown has had some great years eg with the Jets and even nearly made a Pro Bowl with the Bears. Sad he's never had much surrounding talent
2008 Matt cassel has got to be the most overrated qb season ever
Ngl i hope ryan finds success eventually
Too late
@hipperson713
I’m sure he’s found success at the bank, which is what really counts come retirement time.
Thanks
I think he’ll stay with the dolphins for a year or two and then retire.
@A-A-Ron
I’d love to see him get traded again.
He just keeps going to awful teams with awful coaches. The Redskins may have destroyed his career.
Remember Matt Flynn? Got a crap ton of money from the Seahawks for one game that Rodgers sat and got to player with all his weapons. But Seattle drafted Wilson and never looked back. Flynn was awful everywhere else he went.
Matt Flynn’s best game is better than just about everyone. Too bad for him he only had one good game. 480 yards and 6 tds.
I hope Fitz Magic has his own podcast/YT channel when he's done. I love that guy.
You say "mediocre quarterbacks" when Eli Manning is on the screen. Two Super Bowl rings and two-time Super Bowl MVP. That's one helluva turkey burger!
I immediately thought old school: Jon Kitna. Is 4 teams over 14 seasons not enough?
Tim West ehhh didn’t he only start for the bengals and lions? Either way 4 teams isn’t too crazy, qbs like Palmer, favre, and mcnabb played for 3-4 teams over their longer careers
Joshua Blou t he started for the Cowboys whenever romo would get hurt every other week
Good ol' Kitna
Great commentary, intelligent and well put together. Professional. Love the channel.
Why does your hamburger analogy remind me of Colin Cowherd?
Yeah 2 years later and I can say for sure Fitz is less of that "half pick half touchdown" guy. Hes a beast all around. More of a moment player.
You should do a video about how Drew Brees saved the Saints franchise and the city of New Orleans after katrina
Reach
Nah
Tommy Thalacker I wouldn’t say he saved them but he’s a huge reason why they’re relevant. Not a single playoff win in the entire franchise’s history until he got there and he delivered them a SB in just a few years. Deserves a mention at least.
@@clark2501 actually Aaron brooks won the saints their first playoff game a few years earlier
McCown was great with the jets as a starter under todd bowles
0:14 - 0:22 just listened to this, without seeing the visual, then re-watched this portion to see if there was a photo/film of Dilfer. I love it when I'm right!
You forgot to mention the NFL's biggest thief of all time. Sam Bradford.
Jamarcus Russell
Brock Osweiler
Albert Hanesworth
Becoming a journeyman backup QB in the NFL is one of the harder things to achieve. Consider all of the Senior College QB's each year who enter or have a chance to be evaluated on an NFL roster and then to become a journeyman for 10 plus years requires quite a bit of luck, right place at right time, talent, toughness and having an opportunity to play. Chances are incredibly low
Love the lowkey Falcons burn in there.
Matt Slay why don’t you marry it then?
Nothing low key about it
It is actually quite interesting to see how some quarterbacks just find a way to last and be on so many teams because they aren't good enough to be the long-term solution but they seem to always be good enough for at least a short-term possibility or the mentor. I actually still remember when Josh McCown was on the Raiders in 2007. He was never great but I do remember he had a couple really crazy good games. One of which he threw three touchdown passes against the Broncos and a very dominant win. It was the late 2000s so that was the era when the Broncos would have a hot start to the season all the far all apart late in the season and the Raiders who were bad as usual face them at the right time
It's Dr. O'Sullivan now. His channel is amazing btw. It's called The QB School.
Nothern Niner Fan thanks I will check it out
Steve DeBerg is the player who came to mind for me when I think of journeyman.
JT O'sullivan has a dope RUclips channel lol. The QB School its great sub to it
Nick Foles, Whatever happens from here on out, where ever he goes and whoever he plays for, considered a journeyman or not. He'll always be a Superbowl MVP.
As for the families of these QBs'. Gotta feel bad for them. Literally moving to another state every year, in some of these cases.
No Doug flutie, Steve deberg or Jeff hostetler? Need a part two.
I remember Testaverde and his Journeyman days lol
Oh and yeah Brad Johnson won a super bowl too
Damn, really thought the beginning was about to transition into a Blue Apron sponsor
If only they saw Fitzpatricks game against the Raiders
Tua shoulda been traded
Fitzmagic to Stevie Johnson... That was steady for my fantasy team back in 2012 I think.
0:50 Real footage of Dalton trying to complete a pass
@Shaan2d2
TJ Yates is 3-0 vs Dalton.
Daltons a good qb
@@jeffscuderi8662 Average.
Watching this video in October 2020 and seeing an ad for a ticket retailer for live events gave me flashbacks to simpler times.
One I think you forgot is Brian Hoyer.
Notice how most of these qbs were on the jets at some point
1:16 “rebuild,“ I believe you meant to say tank.
I like how it shows Ryan Fitzpatrick and he’s currently on the dolphins who are trying to “rebuild” 😂
Chris Chandler’s easily the most forgotten qb who played in a super bowl
Brad Johnson and Neil O'Donnell
People remember Niel O’Donnell because he threw the ball directly to Larry Brown twice and then was the Jets starter the next season. It went as well as you would expect, and perhaps even worse: 1-15
Much respect to any successful journeyman QB Just imagine getting timing down with SOOO many different WRs.
He's back hell yeah
If you ever make an update to this, Andy Dalton is in this category now. Signed as a backup for Dak, then as a backup for Fields, then as a backup for Winston, now as a backup/mentor for Bryce Young.
Nice work if you can get it. Dude has been paid $17M over 3 years to be a backup/stopgap.
"-made a career out of just throwing the ball all the way down the field just to see what happens." Lol.
As a Bucs fan, I genuinely loved Fitz as QB. Yeah him and Jameis are essentially the same QB, but at least Fitz has a likable personality. Also never forget who they got rid of to draft Vinny 1st overall, Steve Young.
Jameis Winston next?
Marcus Mariota, Tyrod Taylor, Case Keenum, hopefully Nathan Peterman and RGlll
@@BlindmanPepperspray Nathan Peterman LOL. Are you one of those delusional Bills fans?
Cam Newton.
@@timothykozlowski2732 After yesterday's game, he might have his job back
@@Excard0nCam Newton hasn't been the same since he played in the Super Bowl.
I'm not American, I haven't watched a single full game of American football ever, but I can't get enough of this content.
Fitzpatrick the GOAT off the bench
Backup QBs always have the best nicknames. Hoyer the Destroyer, Big Dick Nick, Fitzmagic, Andy the Red Rifle Dalton. Just to name a few
Didnt know of the red rifle one. How did he get that?
yah boi yaa he got it not too long after he entered the nfl, it was because of his red hair, not a great story behind the nickname lol
@@gamerg1372 oh ok lol
@Gamer G
JJ Watt changed Dalton’s nickname to Red Ryder BB Gun.
superserial lol yea i saw that
When you say bad what level do you mean
1-Brad Johnson (highest level)
2-Trent Dilfer
3-Ryan Tannehill
4-Andy Dalton
5-Josh McCown
6-Ryan Fitzpatrick
7-Matt Cassel
8-Ryan Leaf (lowest level)
Trenton Lusk Tannehill bounced back though 😼
Tannehill is actually good tho
@@d_c-fq7fb yeah but he hasnt won many playoff games and isnt too consistent though he is really high up there so i do agree with you
@Mr. Dalton can't even get a win this year so far and he got benched in favor of a unproven ryan finley tannehill however is good that is why he is 3rd on the list
The turkey burger analogy is subtly brilliant. Thank you for that lol
ryan fitzpatrick for hall of fame
He technically is in it
@MBavaro89 : /
Agreed. He should get an award for always playing hard no matter what the circumstances.
