Wonderful sax tone, with melodies underscored with interesting rhythms and especially harmony of all sorts, great, so evocative...a long way from the sausage-note machines of some contemporary stuff

Incredible music. I saw Mehldau and Redman live in Shanghai. Mehldau is a fantastic musician and full respect to him, however Redman absolutely blew me away with his technical mastery and confidence, his flow within the rhythm, the sheer emotion of his performance. I've personally never seen a better saxophonist perform. Even the word "seen" seems inappropriate; it's more like "experienced."
The second song "To hold on or to let it go" bring me tears. I can imagine the beautiful ending but sadly of a love story. So beautiful Gentleman. Thank you very much for this.
Unique, Geniuses they are. Uncommon. Wow! Please play more. Thank you! They will only be here for anothert few decades! That is if we are lucky! God bless them both!
Un musicien parfait ce cher Brad! À chaque fois que je l'écoute, j'ai envie de dire: "Ouais, c'est exactement ce que je voulais dire!" Joshua: quel player! On en redemandera toujours.
This is my go to music whenever I want to hear brilliance. The soprano sax from To Hold On or to Let Go is something out of this world, I might have heard it 100 times and every time tears run to my eyes, just amazing music. Brad comping in Joshua's solo's is just out of this world, he answers him, complements him and gives him ideas to explore, such a blessing conversation. I feel blessed to be able to enjoy this. Thank you both!
Each of these gentlemen are masters of their respective instruments. As is typical, each gets a chance to do solo interludes to show their stuff, but what is amazing about this clip is how outstanding each is while playing together. On occasion, Brad keeps metronome-like time with his left thumb, while at other times he plays each hand apparently playing a different tune which just happens to mesh together extremely well by accident. Of course, there is nothing accidental about it. Redman plays the clearest sax tones that could possibly be played by an earthling.

Got to see their first tour together at the Troy Music Hall, had dinner with Josh's friend that convinced him to play out live after hearing him play at home.

Je sais pas si je vais réussir à m'en remettre ... Comment j'ai pu passer à côté d'un tel moment de musique ? Mais comment es Dieu possible d'envoyer Oléo aussi loin, aussi haut ? ...
I've been a fan of Brad Meldau's ever since I heard his version of the Beatles' "Blackbird" with Joel Frahm on tenor. He sure doesn't disappoint here, for sure. Terrific.

I think Track 1 could be ´California, Here I Come´ - "right back where I started from" A good opener for two not-so-young-anymore masters who were Warner Bros stablemates from the start. Check them out on the album ´Mood Swing´. And thanks for this: how great.
Hey, did someone noticed that Joshua Redman use kind of the same stuff for his intro on "Note to Self" and the other on "Oleo" ? [0m23s - 0m33s] versus [35m23s - 35m28s] Also, does anyone know where the first tune is ? It's "The Falcon Will Fly again"
And Track 2 strikes me immediately - as ´Yesterdays´ in the plural = Billie Holiday NOT Paul McCartney, singular! (Not at all sure about Track 1, though. Help!)
A. Mistake ? Are you talking about Joshua's E flat ? Lol. It's not a mistake ^^. It's called a b5 . Or a #4. Or a #11. Call it as you want, but not "a mistake". But yes indeed Mehldau is answering it.

I love how Brad throws music onto the piano, but then never reads it
Haha! Yes!
Haha that’s that safety net just in case he falls off man. Not like he’s capable of falling off
😅
Did you mean improvisation?
The Dream Brother tune from 22:10 is soooo freaking amazing ... first time ever i am really tripping over Brad Mehldau ... that solo is a masterpiece
its a Song by jeff buckley, about a friend and his father
Whoah. These animals playing an animal's song. Superb!

Thank you very much for this.
Absolutely fantastic - the way they deconstructed and then reconstructed Oleo was masterful.
Entire set was magical.
39:32 "maaan where the fuck are you?"

LOOOL best conversation inbetween musicians hahahaha!
this randomly poped in my playlist while i was cleaning the house, it's one of the best things I have ever listened to

beautiful sounding room. Joshua closes his eyes and enjoys that beautiful tone of his.
Just stumbled across this, and OMG, it's amazing!! Mehldau's solo on Oleo in particular!
It's a gift to listen these guys. Yutue is a golden mine.
Brad and Joshua have created some of the best jazz duo offerings in history. For me their musicianship and interplay is as good as it gets.

one of the greatest performances
Got to see their first tour together at the Troy Music Hall, had dinner with Josh's friend that convinced him to play out live after hearing him play at home.
Would love experience what it feels like to play like these masters.
14:45 best entrance ever

Reminds me of the great collaboration between Herbie and Wayne!
My two favorite duos exactly. Masters creating at a very very high level.
Except Herbie towers above Meldau
extreme skill extreme taste extreme sensibility.

thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent.
21:40 Chills
14:40 Miles Davis' level of professionalism, when you give sence to someone's mistakes so they sound like they were on purpose. Wonderful!

Where can we get a recording of this set? CD, LP, download?
sublime
Didn’t know Vin Diesel and Bill Nye could play like that
Lol
잘 들었습니다.
I don't understand a thing you said but i'am pretty sure that it can be right in some ways...
14:46 that’s how you start a solo
how
@@evanmiles2652 no but I mean like is it because the lick he used is recognizable or just because it sounds good
Adil Khalid o it just sounds good😫
You're right.... that was sweet
Absolutely. It's really interesting - that lick is EXTREMELY dependent on the articulation and phrasing. I've stolen it from him and it just sounds average in my hands.
Mediums for the jazz gods.
