    Many didn’t think another one would come after Keith, Herbie, Chick.. and… well..
    - CAREER WISE Brad is already at the same place as those giants, getting the highest guarantees / fees in the industry and playing the most prestigious venues in the world - symphony halls, almost exclusively.
    - INFLUENCE WISE: also - Brad is without a doubt the most influential, most talked about and most imitated jazz pianist of our time.
    - LEGACY WISE: the only thing differentiating Brad from Chick or Herbie at this point is the mere passage of time. He just has to turn 74 and he’ll start getting all the honors, lifetime achievement awards and legacy acknowledgements they got. Even today - he has already done enough to warrant it.. and he will obviously do even more by the time he’s in his 70s.
    Like all the greats I listed above, he too managed to check two important boxes:
    1. to be considered the very best by musicians
    AND
    2. still have audiences who are largely NOT musicians or music students, somehow.
    Most instrumental artist who succeed at one don’t succeed at the other. Only the 0.0007% of the very best succeed at both. People like Keith with his solo piano stuff or Herbie with his funk stuff and songs like “Rockit”, which crossed over away from jazz fans and into the general public.
    Brad is definitely the new giant of jazz and will go down in history alongside the likes of Herbie Hancock etc. If this still wasn’t obvious 10-15 years ago, it sure is abundantly clear today.

      His only problem with his playing is he is not sharp anymore. It sounds like he is playing to himself for himself. Maybe it's inevitable to sound like that in trio but when he is playing with other soloists he still sounds like he is playing to himself. Maybe growing more as a composer made his playing go backwards.

      @@berkay2503What’s your definition of ‘sharp’? Brad’s playing is sharp enough to me. Sounds great as always.

    • @berkay2503
      @berkay2503 10 месяцев назад

      @@JaeilJi When he is playing with other soloists his response and improv is slow it sounds like he is thinking more about structures, harmonic ideas etc. he looks like he is trying to find something to put on a paper in other words he looks like he is trying to compose but when someone like patrick bartley plays he is sharp, he just performs.

      @@berkay2503well I guess you had to see Patrick Bartley's own statement recently about Brad Mehldau... it's his very favourite pianist of all time and he even mentioned that the instrument that Brad Mehldau is playing is likely limiting the Godlike music that he has to offer to the public. If you have a doubt go ask him and he'll tell you more why... Brad is way way more than a piano player.. he's an alien.. considering that timing is maybe the most important element in harmony in order to deliver a beautiful phrasing etc.. just by that if you listen enough to him you'll realise how great he is.. and that's something that a lot of players are lacking unfortunately and it makes all their beautiful technique and phrasing fall apart from the main impact they're supposed to have on the listener.. his breathing is simply beyond perfection...

    • @berkay2503
      @berkay2503 10 месяцев назад

      @@MrOthman91 Brad Mehldau is my favorite piano player too i think saying piano is limiting brad's playing is similar to when you play a symphony on a piano it sounds limiting which is exactly my point he is thinking way too much when he is playing. This is my opinion for maybe last 5 years or maybe less. Before that I think his playing was the best.

    Used to watch him at those free concerts at the Wadsworth Thearter In West LA in the early 90s. He was already good then. Three decades later, he's become a Master.
