It doesn't make sense why she isn't. The Batman who Laughs, a version of Bruce Wayne, is a skin for the Joker (who, believe it or not, is not Bruce Wayne). They could have just done the same thing with Nubia and Diana and called it a day. It makes very little sense why Nubia is being added to the game as a seperate character before the likes of The Flash, GL, Aquaman, Black Canary, etc from DC do

Nubia is the Byleth of multiversus
So a character who's pretty important within the context of their franchise (Byleth represents the best-selling Fire Emblem game to date, Nubia is the first Black woman superhero of the major comic book publishers) but is over-hated by fans for not being someone else? Then yeah, that's accurate.
In Byleth's case, hate all you want, but they're among the most likely FE characters to return next game (more so than Roy/Chrom, Corrin, or even Ike) alongside Marth/Lucina & Robin.

In the 70s comics, Nubia was Wonder Woman's twin sister. However, she wasn't as popular with the viewers until the late 2010s. I'm glad she's in this game and the mainstream of the DC comics. ❤

People complain about her being added and being too obscure, but two things:
1. Fighting games always have the wierd characters, and its fine to have a lesser known when we just got one as big as Powerpuff girls.
2. We are getting a new fighter literally every month, more often than any other fighting game ever. People who dont like Nubia can suck it up for a single month

@monke3423 Because Smash Ultimate was the fifth game in a long running series that pretty much copied characters over from.the last game.and only made a handful new at launch, while Multiversus as a single new IP from a small studio that is building every character from scratch

John Stewart, Cyborg, Static Shock, Black Lightning, Vixen, and Bumblebee are all more well known characters than Nubia is and they're also more than just their skin color, unlike Nubia who has no character outside of being Black Wonder Woman.

Very odd choice to add nubia of all characters? She's a great character in the comics but she has little to no media presence outside of them and there's more DC characters that could be added instead like the flash, Green lantern, Aquaman, Static, Lex luthor etc. I do appreciate that they're trying to add more obscure characters to the roster but I think they need to get the essentials out of the way first
She was probably easier to make into a full character on a tighter timeframe considering the Powerpuff Girls were like 3 movesets for a single character with varying speed/knockback/damage. They probably took much longer than previous characters due to how unique they are with their unconventional 3 character hurtbox and switching mechanic.
It was either they only release PPG this season or they try to reuse existing assets to save time and have another character ready for Season 3.
I'm fine with this to be honest. Other fighting games like Street Fighter (Ken/Akuma) and Smash (Dark Pit, Lucina, Doctor Mario, Jigglypuff) also reused assets to pad out the roster that was otherwise going to be lacking in some, just as a neat bonus.
@@caldw615 Even then I'm kinda surprised honestly considering they could do the same with characters like Bizarro, The batman who laughs, Shazam, Punchline etc who are far more well known and popular than nubia is. I just find it to be somewhat confusing as much as I like nubia she has little to no outside media presence aside from some mobile games and toys so it'd make more logical sense to use one of the previous more popular characters I listed for an echo fighter style character if you get what I mean
@@Martiancookiehunter365 I think a few factors are involved.
1. She has enough source material to pull a unique moveset. She's been around for 50 years. Bizarro is by all accounts a clone of Superman and sure you could tweak some numbers but he'd be largely the same thing. Nubia plays very different to Wonder Woman.
2. The character ideally should have a lot of source material to pull skin ideas from. Sure some characters maybe only have 1 thing they are from like the Iron Giant but make up for it by being extremely unique. The Batman Who Laughs is from a single comic run in an alternate dimension so would mostly just be getting skins for the events like Circuit Drone recolours. Again, Nubia by comparison has been around for decades.
3. This game is severely lacking in female characters as a whole. The PPG technically boost it by another 3 but they are considered 1 playable slot, otherwise it's like 24 guys (25 if you count Jerry) and only 6 girls (8 if you count all of the PPG. It's even more of a disparity if you include skins because for every skin like Cake there's also more male alts like Fern/Batman Who Laughs/Shagworthy/All the alternate dimension Rick&Morty's. Nubia is the only existing asset they have they could use that could satisfy all these criteria at once.
Robin from Teen Titans. Mordecai and Rigby. Ben 10. Static from Static Shock. Do you guys even CARE about the characters that we WANT?

Of all the DC characters to pick, Nubia? Really? Even as a hardcore DC fan I would had taken a Wonder Woman villain like Circe or Cheetah

Warner Bros. and PFG, you have one of the BIGGEST potential rosters available to you and you showed with the last season that you can absolutely pick the right characters to bring hype back to Multiversus, so why did you waste time and money on a character that most comic readers don’t even know who it is???
If you needed a black character, why not add Static Shock, Vixen or Cyborg to the game? Hell, i am still waiting for Michael Jordan! This is the Byleth moment Smash players had.

She was going to be a skin for wonder woman but that was scrapped and they used the already in game assets to make a character which is less work than making a new char from scratch.
I'm a big fan of Multiversus but I don't think anyone wanted this character. One mainline hype release and then one budget cut character doesn't really qualify as a "New Season". Just my opinion.

She's a DC Comics character and part of Wonder Woman's mythos. In current comics continuity, she becomes Hyppolyta's successor as queen of the amazons and introduces new policies allowing amazons to travel to Man's World as they wish, where originally only Diana had gone as an ambassador. Also, Hyppolyta has ascended to godhood after being killed by a rogue amazon who was then sent to rehabilitation.

It's pretty cool that MultiVersus is willing to do deeper cuts like Nubia, especially since she's pretty important to the history of comics. Without Nubia paving the way for Black women super heroes, you wouldn't have Storm, Misty Knight, Photon, Shuri, Bumblebee, Vixen, or a bunch of others.
You're putting a lot of importance on a character who has three appearances in three decades
Storm absolutely would've done the same thing and Storm has done way more than Nubia
Deeper cuts like Nubia would indeed be cool if the game wasn't floundering so hard after its botched relaunch.

@@kenshanparchman6838 Honestly, I wouldn't be too surprised if it turned out that Ruby was planned for the "heroines" theme of the season but since Warner sold away the rights they had to move Nubia ahead. Even knowing that she was first leaked as a WW skin in the beta and they eventually decided to make her a fighter, it feels really weird to have her so soon.

Hey MVS and Player First! I want this to come off as a positive message and hopefully one us veteran players can get a hot fix for. We currently can not purchase Beetlejuice, nor can we purchase Nubia in the character shop OR from the character select screen without it prompting me to have to use one of my 9x remaining fighter unlock tickets. I do not want to spend that form of currency as in the game, it stated in text that we would be able to unlock these characters "at specified dates" via gleamium and character currency but Friday came and went and now Nubia is prompting me to buy with character ticket. I LOVE THIS GAME, AND I JUST WANNA PLAY ITS NEW CONTENT! So I am unsure if this is a bug or something you had intent of doing to nerf players who have everyone unlocked. But after saving 50,000 currency and 4000 gleamium, I REALLY dont think its fair to force us to use our beta currency on these characters. PLEASE, FIX the shop so that everybody can buy Nubia and Beetlejuice with Fighter Currency and Gleamium, I save my gleamium for skins, i save my tickets for characters I LOVE AND HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR (Like Joker) so for charachters I dont care much for... PLEASE let me spend my fighter currency

I really wish they did a more iconic DC character. I don't have a problem with Nubia or anything but id much rather see someone like Green Lantern, The Flash, Cyborg, or Aquaman in the game.
It's always the iconic characters, dude. If you're always focusing on the faces then it gets boring and predictable when all people do is choose the obvious for a crossover especially when this is a Wonder Woman series character and Wondie needs a bit more franchise love.

@@ryugano5025 Problem with that argument is that this game's roster is MOSTLY comprised of characters fans have wanted or would see in a WB Smash Bros including the DC universe that has a solid yet typical selection for a crossover. A fighting game needs have to some characters that appeals to other crowds including those who actually know about Nubia or would actually get people into learning about these characters or OTHER characters from DC that's not the faces of the company.

We srsly got Nubia before The Flash, GL, Aquaman, Shazam, or literally any other widely known DC hero OR villain. So now we have 3 Batman characters, Superman, Black Adam, and two Wonder Woman (because Nubia couldn't just be a skin for Wonder Woman like how The Batman who Laughs is a skin for The Joker smh). How does Nubia make any sense to add? Aside from the fact that many ppl will complain about having a clone of wonder woman in the game, let alone the fact that she is black, nobody in the Gen Aud knows who tf she is because her character is like what, less than 5 years old at this point? (correction: she has existed since the 70s, I don't read Wonder Woman comics very often, I only thought she was more recent of a creation because of her larger presence in comics the last couple of years).

There's even plenty of black DC characters they couldn't gone with over Nubia that also aren't define by their skin color; John Stewart, Cyborg, Static Shock, Black Lightning, Vixen, and Bumblebee.
What those character also have going for them is that, unlike Nubia, a LOT of people actually know who they are and like them. If the developers wanted diversity that badly, they could have gone with one of those characters and no one would have complained. Instead we got Nubia, who is a very obvious DEI pick from Sweet Baby Inc.
