Most people flying Fokker DR1 replicas tend to fly them pretty conservatively and I don't blame them but Mr. Carlson flys HIS Fokker like the weapon it was meant to be. An incredible display of flying that shows how formidable the DR1 really was. Thanks for this amazing 13 minute history lesson Mikael! mike
It's great to see people keeping those pieces of history still flying !!!!! This is an example of how maneuverable they really were !!! Great job guys!!!!!!!!!!
Incredible! I’ve seen them fly before but never to their full capability. No wonder some of the top aces kept flying them despite there being more modern designs available toward the end of the war. A pilot that was good in one of these would be unstoppable.
That's from the Rise of Flight description of the DR.1 (and they didn't even get the Flight Model right for stall/post-stall or uncoordinated turns) that stated some pilots still used it to "snipe enemies" until the end of the war. I have no idea where that myth came from originally, but it's false. Pilots had no choice in the plane they were flying, the DR.1's were pulled from frontline service by Idflieg once D.7's became available in quantity.
I can only dream of this level of detail and authenticity. When flying my modern reproduction I think of how much more difficult and dangerous these would be. Congratulations on such a feat, and thank you for bringing it to the public for posterity.
Yeah, it was really surprising how agile this 100 year old bird is and how tight it corners. Amazing pilot skills by Mikael Carlson 😎👍Thanks for watching😎
As I see this Dr1, and hear the Ride of the Valkyries, I see Col. Klink standing there so proud, chest puffed out, jaw set, monocle clenched in his left eye, right arm cocked, fist clenched. Hilda looking at him and kinda smirking.
What a beauty, what a work of are. Das Dri-decker. Dr.1. Im in love witht a beautiful bird. LOL! Now if you had one in red and white, J/K its fine! The pilot is amazing with his aerobatics, Look at that radial spinning up. Man! Wunderbar!
Awesome piloting and some really smooth WWI era Immelmanns, turns and fly bys at low altitude. All smoother than butter. Most of these antiques get to fly carefully around the pattern, this pilot shows you what she's got. It's a mystery how the Germans lost that one. Great video!
technically, this triplane isn't antique its a reproduction, although I believe the engine is an original. There aren't any original complete Fokker DR1's that survived. The last one was destroyed in a bombing raid in Germany during WW2. I agree with you wholeheartedly though, it is a great video!
@@37silverstreak1 It's built after original plans, to original specs, using methods of the day. So no welding, just brazing. Mickael was a bit annoyed that he couldn't find a recipe of the original glue, but he found a glue that looked like the original when dried.
It is an original engine from the war, and as far as i know some original metal parts were used. All wood and fabric are newly built by the pilot himself. Check out his website for more information.

Now that is real combat flying. I wish all WWI airshows put on such aerial displays.
Awesome display. Thanks for watching my video 😎👍
Agreed. Awesome display here
Glad to see them keeping their culture and history alive considering the onslaught of cultural enrichment going on over there
Simply beautiful . Such an accurate reproduction . Thanks for posting
Stunning work. Thanks for watching 😀👍
Great filming despite the clutter on the ground. Very smooth.
Does justice to the plane and pilot.
Very good.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. 😎👍
The Fokker Dr.1 could turn on a dime Werner Voss was famous for this, he was in my opinion germany's best ww1 pilot and bravest.
Impressive flight with a beautiful plane. It's very fast and manoeuvrable.
A beautiful plane flown by a very skilled pilot.
Perfect fitting words 😎👍
Wonderful spirited flying in such a demanding plane to fly, with proper rotary engine too!!!
WOW! That wasn't a takeoff ...that was a LAUNCH! The good old DR-1, what an airplane. Great video.
Thanks for watching my video, glad you enjoyed it 😎👍
Fantastic. The best demonstration of a Dr1 I've ever seen. Well done guys.
Great work! What a magnificent late-series production aircraft! And the sunlight on those wings. magnificent.
Great atmosphere at this sunset display. Thanks for watching my video 😎👍
Beautiful display. You can really see why it's such a famous machine. Look at how fast it climbs!
Impressive what this plane can do with an amazing pilot. Thanks for watching my video 😎👍
I've never seen a WWI aircraft performance demo before! That was really awesome!
Amazing pilot skills 😎👍
That Max Immelman turn, spectacular !! 👍😏🍻🥂
Low level around the trees.... Wunderbar...! Magnificent....!

Just fantastic! Awesome flying.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching 😎👍
Fabulous video,a beautiful plane with the sunshine adding to the spectacle👏👏👏
Superb... in the hands of an good pilot they must have been very hard to beat in air combat. What a fabulous aeroplane :-)))))
It is impressive what is possible with this 100 year old design. Thanks for watching 😎👍
Incredible lift off of rotating in what looked like 200 yards !
Impressive display! Thanks for watching 😎👍
three wings produces a lot of lift

It's as if Fokker found rediscovered the plans and built them today.
The Oberursel engine was licence built in Sweden at the Thulin Werke in Malmoe.

Reminded me of the movie BLue Max
Now THAT is really cool!
Glad you enjoyed my video 😎👍
That was excellent (now I know why Snoopy got shot down)!
Yeah 😎👍
Why, the 'Camel' use a rotary engine too...
I think maybe that's really Werner Voss flying that Dreidecker?
Ausgezeichnet. Die Deutsche flugzeug sind immer am besten.
Anthony Fokker was Dutch but yes, great plane.
@@peterrandewijk Yes, but this was a German plane as were all Fokkers.
Excellent! 👍🏻

when the sun hits the underside of the wings at 13:15, Glorious! Werner Voss would be proud of this demonstration!
Magnificent ! It is surprising how much horsepower the little rotary had for its weight ; I think 150 hp ?
This original 9 cylinder Le Rhône engine has 110hp according to Mickael Carlson's website. Thanks for watching my video 😎👍
Awesome!

Amazing little aircraft..was there also French and British aircraft at show..is the engine in D1 original..
Yeah it has an engine it could have been flown with back in WW1.
Is this also an Oberursel engine? Or an engine modified for ROTATING ALONG WITH THE PROPELLER? What an incredible machine!
It has an original 9-cylinder Le Rhône engine from the 1910s, which is nearly identical to the Oberursel.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@ :33 that exhaust valve has plenty of clearance!
Grymt...
I'm assuming from the description this is an original so is there any information on what pilot(s) flew this one during the war?
It is an original engine from the war, and as far as i know some original metal parts were used. All wood and fabric are newly built by the pilot himself. Check out his website for more information.
Wrong! That plane is actually a vierdecker. ✌️
Yeah, you´re right. Well, let´s call it a 3 1/2 Decker 😎 Thanks for watching my video👍
Much like your cerebral patte', the little stubby between the wheels doesn't really count as a "deck", so calm down and breathe, Young padawan

@@705547 😂👍
Is this an Achim Engels build?
no, it was built by the pilot himself, Mikael Carlson from Sweden.
Is that the Fokker with the colors of Werner Voss?
It has the colors from March 1918 from Leutnant Johannes Janzen of Jasta 6.
the barrels of the guns look like they would send bullets into the propeller...
Not with the Fokker-conceived interruptor gear.
Les biplans sont quand même plus élégants
