      Thanks so much for watching Rogue Aquariums, I appreciate the comment.
      I’ve really enjoyed this project once we determined we were going full softs. After a few months of the “ ugly phase” I was pretty quick to stock it with a range of Zoa, Rhodactis and LPS, but was getting a bit exasperated by our lack of time to manage it correctly. Now I absolutely adore octocorals and I’m really looking forward to seeing the corals grow into more of a forest and also to see what the CVE+ does for them all.
      I talk about this setup often at the store to clients and I feel I’m slowly lifting the pretentious stigma of thinking soft corals are boring. It’s particularly useful when clients are struggling with difficult to keep corals.
      Wishing you a happy holiday season,
      Ania

      @@GalleryAquaticaTV I agree with you about being a Zoa nut as well. Lol. I absolutely love them. That’s good that you can help your clients and show them that a lot of corals aren’t really that hard to keep as long as you have fairly stable parameters. Curious as to how the CVE+ works for you. Have a great New Years and all the best.

      Hi TatooedDancer91,
      That’s awesome to hear you have a similar setup. My one regret so far is just the 120L space restriction! I guess I’ll have to get out my Fragging gear once these pieces all grow out!
      Something I wasn’t prepared for was the rate and frequency of their skin shedding. I’m not sure if it’s the fact they are so small that they are growing fast thus shed frequently or the double dosing of Iodine… or maybe that’s just an Octocoral thing. As an example, I would say I have NEVER seen every single leather open together on any one particular day. Which would be such a pleasure. But also, it’s kind of fun because when some are shut, it gives their neighbours time to shine.
      Do you find that too?

      @@GalleryAquaticaTV Hi Ania,
      It's funny, I do not. Mine rarely, as in VERY rarely, sheds.
      They can be closed when the clown pair is moving furniture around because they want to lay eggs in a small 140 liter tank, which is annoying me and the corals. But they open back up.
      Shedding I feel happens mostly after sudden shifts. Like moving a coral from one tank tot he other, or when feeding is increased. Stuff like that :D
      It's a great tank you have there! The scape turned out great for softies for sure.
      My favorite moment from my own is when all 5 strains of sarcophyton were large and open at the same time, and my clown bounced between all of them. Bliss! Now I I cut them all the time to make room :D

We stock about 200+ varieties so my initial plan of showcasing every single one was scrapped. Maybe one day I will be able to set up a 4 footer with intent to house every Zoa properly :) That scape structure will probably need to be multi dimensional, given the zoas don’t create any shape on their own. Hi Kern, thanks so much for watching! What kind of fresh water setup do you have? I always previously had a lot of freshwater tanks, they can be equally as beautiful and fascinating as a marine tank. At one stage during my university years my housemates had to cap me at 30 setups 🤣🤣 so I’ve had a lot of experience with different biotypes. I encourage you to get started with a simple Softie setup like this one, it’s really been such a joy to have!

      THIRTY TANKS lmao.... I'm capped at 5 at the moment.
      I did discus tanks for several years and peaked at a 220gal with almost 30fish, loved them. Seeing that my tanks were mostly barebottom the only plant I could keep was anubias, then I fell in love with Anubias and collecting all the different species. So now I'm fully into planted tanks, hi tech...low tech and everything in between.
      I've seen a few macro algae/mangrove displays pop up on you tube a couple times. I imagine that would be the closest thing to a planted tank and easiest to transition to, but the beauty of corals and anenomes makes me feel to dive right in.

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  Год назад

      Yes! I agree! A macro algae tank would be really interesting. A big challenge to achieve here in Australia because we aren’t allowed to import any internationally Collected or captive bred coral, inverts etc and all the macro algae in Australia is heavily protected so we seldom get to see a diverse range available here. Occasionally macro algae can come in on the base of coral shipments but usually all those bits get cut off and removed for transit so it’s rare. Generally reef tanks have so much clean up crew which loves eating macro algae so even when I find an interesting one I find it hard to hold aside for those who would like to try grow it 🤣
      Hope you get your dream marine tank setup soon!
      30 tanks was indeed a little crazy. We then lived in a giant run down mansion on the Gold Coast, there were 17 rooms !! So I had LOTS of space to fill 🤣

      @GalleryAquaticaTV  Год назад +1

      Hi and thanks for watching :)
      Soft corals particularly thrive in presence of available iodide. It helps with tissue health, shedding and growth. Tanks which are keeping mixed softies with LPS and SPS also benefit from regular iodide dosing however you have to be more careful not to overdose when SPS are present. Softies can handle very high levels which is why I’m not concerned about doubling the dose daily in this setup. I only have softs. There are a lot of different brands which offer Iodine dosing, notably Seachem Iodide is the non toxic form of iodine, I love using Coral Essentials as it’s potassium iodide and super concentrated. And potassium is also very important for coral health and colour. Continuum does one too. I think it’s called Sustain.
      Start dosing slowly while you stock the tank. Once you have alot of pieces of coral you are best to use the full recommended dose on whichever brand bottle you decide to use. Hope it goes well for you :)
      Happy Reefing!

      The sandbed may appear shallow on the screen but it’s actually at least two inches thick at the back. My banana wrasse is just a tiny juvenile, about one inch long, (3cm) but he isn’t a coris, it’s Halichoeres chrysus. I believe in USA a different yellow wrasse gets the common name Banana but either way, we can always increase the substrate as it grows and/or swap the fish with others in our store once they get too big for this setup :)

      Hi JAHs Reef!
      I can certainly explain it better on the next update. I’ve had a good chat with the CVE developers since filming this and it’s quite an interesting philosophy, very cool concept and quite unique compared to other products currently available on the market.
      I can however give you a fun hint ..
      Have you ever googled a photo of whale poop?
      🤣
      Cheers, Ania
