3 possibilities come from this: 1) "I'm afraid I can't get parts for this, the manufacturer is out of business, you will need to get a carpenter to replace the door." or 2) scarf in some pine and stick in a new deadbolt off the truck or 3) allaboutdoors gets to add to their product line a whole bunch of new stuff.

up here in scandinavia we use multi point locksets for better weather sealing, and the top and buttom hooks are just folded over metal, so they can be forced out easily. But in the south oh Europe they have locks that push hardened rods in all directions and the doors and frames are heavy metal as well, so they are burglar proof.

The versions we see here have a number of variations i the locking design. Hooks, rollers, shoot-bolts that engage threshold and header.
This thing is a redo of the initial one itroduced a couple of years ago, and is likely to satisfy the demand for keyless access for rentals and airb&b type usage. This demand will NOT be ignored.
Allowing traditional style trim, yet maintain a claim of sturdiness. I expect these to be an abysmal failure, as is the Trillenium lock from the same company. The idea of latches that extend into bolts SOUNDS awesome ( Remember Weiserbolts, and Corbin-Russwins' SECUREBOLT ? The stress of turing the thumbturn to force out the latches into the three strikes is too much to ask.... you get broken tailpieces and broken keys.

I guess imo, the biggest failure I’ve seen with any multipoint is that one or more of the 3 point locking mechanisms is hitting the hole with some type of interference (misalignment or warpage) or needs lubrication and that causes the gearbox to fail when the bolts are thrown and the drive gear stripped the teeth off. For that reason I always triple check those clearances where the bolts go into the jamb plates. Idn how the plastic will hold up but I guess it depends on what part is plastic (or plastic steel laminate?). I’d be interested to hear from those that have worked on these. Thanks for sharing!

Not sure about this one with plastic parts. Sounds like it will break very easily. Here in Europe we have multipoint locks on most new homes. Yes they can and do break, even when made out of metal. The hardest thing is to open the door once it has broken, there are tools and good methods to be able to do this. Then it is just a simple task of replacing the broken part. On a good door and frame they do provide excellent security, there are videos out there showing the police failing to open them with their big red key.

Haven't run into Pano, but I've had to deal with a few multi-points over the years - some better made than others. A lot of them seem to be vaguely functional decorative items. But even the 'functional' ones are prone to problems, as well as being plagued by problems sourcing replacement parts. Manufacturers seem to like to cease all production on a particular model after a few years, and then people have to buy the latest and greatest model, which isn't compatible with any of the old models (or installation specs). This Pano thing looks like it's built for 'lifetime customers' if you take my meaning.
You want multiple locking points, install extra deadbolts 😂

I had a PanoLock multi-point system installed with a Wi-Fi keypad. When the door is locked the center is not actually locked and if you depress the lever from inside or outside the center latch is depressed. So in reality it is only a 2 point locking system. My installer told me this is how it is supposed to work but I challenge that as it does not make sense to have 3 locking points if only 2 of them actually lock. I am curious if what I was told is accurate

I was largely a commercial/institutional locksmith for my last two decades. But I am so glad I retired before encountering this kind of crap.

I never liked working on the Hoppe style locks because they weren’t designed to be repaired. Total replacement was needed and special ordered, which means a return trip. Such headaches.

We just had a set of French doors installed and they have this panolock on it. Looks sturdy and feels sturdy. The only issue I have with it is that it locks when you open the door three times or if you shut it to hard. I need to find out how to adjust it or defeat it. Any suggestions?

  • @citylockapolytechnikeyllcc7936

I do not expect this product to go after the retrofit market at all, just to create a bottom up demand to door companies to start using it, when the door is built. I watched the install videos. They are going after the door makers!

    • @ablelock
      @ablelock Год назад +1

I think the same thing you do this is going to be the biggest piece of crap in our industry to have to deal with. They won’t want to get us parts to fix it and if they do get a stub it’ll probably be over will send you out the whole part. Or if not the whole part, they won’t want to send the whole part to the customer which will take days and what are we supposed to do with the customers door while the product doesn’t work, and there is nothing in sight. 😂😂😂 I have put in a few multi point locking systems because I am a dealer for Asa Abloy. More direct. Mul-t-lock and they decided a few years ago to take it out of the country and take it back to Israel because it was too much headaches here in the US for the dealer and for the customer. Then they bring out this piece of crap made out of plastic and ten are they kidding?

A fraction of the cost of Anderson's hurricane rated doors. This might be a budget friendly option in hurricane / tornado areas.

Wahahaha Endura acquired the W&F Trillenium... which works lovely on the bench... actually, silky smoooooth. The design, however has a fatal flaw. The thumbturn or key gets forced to throw the latch-bolts.... twisting/snapping the tailpiece, strippign out the tailpiece hub in the mortise case, or breaking the keys off. Sort of like a Lexus or Honda locking steering column binding up, and trying to overcome it with your key. This product is going to depend on a particular spacing between the prep for the deadbolt escutcheon and handle.... so existing doors are not likely to be compatible for any sort of a universal fit. My guess is this will weasel its' way into Home Depot or Lowes, preinstalled on the doors they sell

Yes I know that I'm Not a duly licensed locksmith"YET". But I've been in the construction side of building houses, for many years. And as a Builders perspective, all I can see is the DEDICATION of more resources, tied up with little to no profit return on it. You will need 2 people that specialize installing these. Yes I understand it says 1 person can do it. But what if that person is out on Maternity Leave Or totalled their work truck and they're laid up in the hospital. So the GC will tell the Owner Sorry you will have to wait till they can get back to work in a week, before we can install the specialized lock you requested.
And Now from the Fire Department viewpoint Dear Lord How are we going to breech this door. So No Thank You

Just spent $6400.00 to put front french doors on my house and was talked into by the building supply company that I needed these locks. Well since day one, I have had nothing but issues with this thing. It's Junk! Called the building supply company to replace it because it was under warranty and the one they brought out to replace it, was broke already out of the box. So they put the old one back in and said they will get back with me. Well right now I have a chair up against my door because the damn door either won't close or you can't get through it because it's jammed up inside. Stay away from this thing. Like I said, It's junk and hasn't worked since day one.

It looks like a really poor design, from a maintenance and durability standpoint. Those “snap in” parts to adapt it for various manufacturers just don’t look durable. And of course the two thin parts around the post holes will most definitely fail in short order. I have seen and used some very nice multipoint locks in Northern Europe, but they are FAR better made than this appears to be.
