    I will definitely be looking at multi-point locking systems when replacing doors. I would also think they would pay for themselves when selling my home in addition to the benefits you described. Another great video Jeff!

      Yes, I don't think I would buy another door that did not have these.

    Thanks so much for this video! I bought a door on facebook and fixed the deadbolt knob because it was not connected to the flat acuator. However i was no clever enough to realize the knob did not actuate the deadbolt like a standard door lol finding this video saved me a lot of messing around. I would have never tried to lift the handle

    WE'RE in florida and got an estimate for soft-lite windows. Have you heard of them before? Any good? I believe they are more of a northern window but i think they are infused with td....Florida heat is awful and were looking for a great window that saves energy and hurricane impact.

    Thank you for this demonstration. I got an entry door from Facebook marketplace and to my surprise it had a 3 point lock attached which is great, but our concern is that the system doesn’t stay “always locked on the outside” as we prefer to not have to lock the door with our key when leaving the house. Several reasons why, but main one is our tenants absolutely always forget to lock the front door which is dangerous. We’ve had 3 different tenants and every single one had this issue so we figured a lock that stays locked on the outside was the way to go and it’s been working great. But we do need to replace our door soon and after finding the “new” one on Facebook we’ve been excited until we realized the potential downside with the 3-point lock.
    Is there a way we can possibly adapt this 3 point lock to always stay locked on the outside? I was thinking the key cylinder could be replaced to offer this convenience but a locksmith said it’s not possible. Can the lever handle be disabled and/or adapted into a “dummy” handle to where it doesn’t move at all on the outside and thus keeping the door locked? Not sure if this makes sense. Part of me realizes that the handle needs to be able to move in order to engage the 3 locks to begin with. 😫

      I've never had anyone request this before. I'm not aware of this being possible.

    Curious who makes the entry door you showed at the beginning? Is this an upgrade or comes standard?

      Not yet.. I think only one or two have started down that path. Expect it to be common place in a few years.

      Is it possible to install an Aqara u200 smart lock over top the deadbolt on a multi point lock?

      @@zakhutsul8227 It needs to handle the extra torque to turn the heavier mechanism. So it's an issue of the motor whether or not it'll work.

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts  4 месяца назад

      Yes, it can be done. However, it will be problematic because of the extra torque required. You'll need to be sure you pull the door against the weatherstripping to release some tension.

      @@HoustonWindowExperts Firstly - thank you for responding! Do you have any reservations about the plastic components within the door that make up the locking system?
      I can't find any reviews about that particular locking system - locksmiths seem to have less than stellar opinions of multipoint locks in general - unreliability seems to be the number one complaint.

      @jankyemailer I have probably sold a thousand of those doors in the last 10 years, and I've had no issues with the locking point whatsoever. In fact, I can't think of any issues we've had whatsoever with any part of the door

      Not really. It requires special equipment to create the routing for the pistons and mechanisms.

    I’ve lived with these in a newish-build rental while we build for almost a year and I hate them. The doors are wood and swell/shrink. When the door won’t align you can’t lock up the house. Even though the door is shut, the lock won’t engage until you’ve successfully pulled the handle up and I guess the swelling of the door or settling of the house is just enough to make it impossible! It’s a major issue.
