This is definitely going to be a divisive episode! What did you think of the penultimate episode of the season? From a creative and stylistic point of view I thought it was awesome and it genuinely felt like we were watching a theatre production! But I don't know if it did a good job at setting up the finale... Comment your thoughts below!

Episode 7 was a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. GET TO THE POINT, already. An entire episode was not needed to reveal Apollo's real dad or Brian's murder by Lillian. GET ON with it, already. I've already lost interest. 🤦‍♀ And, what's the point of the seedy hotel, exactly, and the dude dying of AIDS? None. No point. A waste of time.

    • @tonyareed5083
      @tonyareed5083 10 месяцев назад

The ending Brian sequence was WAY TOO confusing and CONVOLUTED. One Commentator asserted that the dying guy was Brian, which means that Brian was gay. Who cares?
It was OBVIOUS from Episode 1 that Charles Blackwood is Apollo's father. "Lillian's first child was conceived in the beautiful blur of 1977." This voiceover statement was made in the first episode, and repeated in episode 7. The statement does not indicate: "Lillian and Brian's first child was conceived in 1977," which is more precise. Therefore, there was immediate doubt planted regarding the father of Lillian's child.
Most important, however, is the reality that Apollo does not appear to be EVEN REMOTELY, bi-racial.
I did not like the final episodes. This may be because I am not a fan of Sci-Fi or Horror film genres. However, I admire the performers and production. In fact, I only watched the first 8 episodes because I know some of the performers and producers.
I will not be returning for the continuing episodes. Not my cup of tea.

People in the comments…there is no indication to me that Brian was not Apollos father. If she had the affair with the boss she would not have had to work Saturdays and leave her child alone. Lots of Black biracial people don’t appear stereotypically biracial and lots of Black children are lighter as children and get darker as they grow older. Brian was a malignant narcissist clearly, he was abusive, and I could see someone like that harming their child.
I thought this episode was quite beautiful and artistic and brilliantly directed and acted and once I accepted that the whole episode was Lillian’s story I was able to settle in and enjoy it but to make it this long and so close to the end when people are wanting to get some other questions answered is a strange choice to me. And every movement so drawn out like her putting things one by one in a suitcase. It was not a big revelation to me that she killed Brian I’ve known that from the second it was clear he came to the apartment to harm her child. That’s a mothers instinct. The fact that Apollo has survived whatever was going on when she saw that smoke under the door and Bryan was nowhere to be found plus the scene of her throwing a suitcase in the water had already suggested that. Why so much time given to this storyline while Cal keeps talking in riddles about what happens to the doggone babies.
This show has a lot of individually beautiful and fascinating and interesting pieces but tonally and structurally and storytelling wise it’s incoherent and frustrating I don’t feel like I’m enjoying it all enough to make up for sitting through a baby being boiled alive three episodes in. The show set out to do something wonderfully ambitious in terms of the storytelling but I feel like isnt giving enough attention to the viewers experience.
With one half hour episode left it seems like this is one of those cases where they’re trying to stretch out the book source material and end this on a cliffhanger and we won’t find baby Bryan and I am going to find that upsetting.

The scene with Brian and Lily Ann at their picnic was the most chilling scene. Brian would smile while making dark comments and coming off like he was joking. I think someone is more scarier when they tell you how they are feeling and their motives in a playful tone than if they were serious.

But this is what I could gather: Brian was hella abusive, Is Brian really Apollo’s father? (I dont think so - Apollo is 100% black not bi-racial, now Emma on the other side is for sure bi-racial). So did Lillian get pregnant by her boss maybe before she and Brian got together, and thats the mistake? Does Brian THINK that Apollo is his or realizes that hes not and tries to drown him? Was Apollo really killed by Brian and Lillian made a deal w/ another world to exchange Apollo for a Changeling and indeed Apollo is a changeling?? Really Lost - but I love your review

I agree that it didn't do much to advance the plot of the rest of the story, but I felt so inside of Lillian's world, that I didn't feel a strong need to know what the next part of apollo's story was going to be. I did red the book after watching the first episode of the show, so that might also be why I'm not super thirsty to just know how things turn out.
This episode was so masterfully done by all parties involved and felt like the best episode of the series by a long mile. I lowkey could stay in Lillian's story, because they did something really magical here, and I kinda feel like it might be because this was the one episode that wasn't taken as much from the source material?

I enjoyed this episode. While it is difficult to process we have to remember The Changeling is a fairy tale and as such there will be lots of fantastical elements to its storytelling. I appreciated the use of allegory to tell Lillian's perspective. It is so rare that we see a black woman's innermost feelings and action explored in depth. I realize this could be challenging for some but it was worth it. It's also an episode that may require multiple viewing to see what the showrunner and author are telling us. Stretch your mind, it's ok❤ I agree with you that we will see at least one more season to complete the story. Thx again.

It’s rare? How so? Black adult women make up about 3.5% of the entire population of the United States. I would say that they are far and away overrepresented in the media, in pop culture, in everything really. Black females, including children, make up 6% of the population, yet they demand to be 50% or more of everything. Don’t believe me? Just watch a tv show or a movie or commercials today. Blacks are so overrepresented in them yet they still claim they are oppressed.

I felt like it was over ambitious to have such a standalone episode that was so metaphoric at this stage of the season. For me maybe this episode would have worked earlier or if it was broken up and shown in parallel with Apollo and Emma scenes. Late to the party. I disliked this episode because of Brian's character assassination. I have an issue with how Brian was eventually shown to be trying to drown Apollo. It just came out of left field. If he had doubts that Apollo was not his son, he would not have spent that much time with him. Due to this, it raises more questions than answers, such as how Apollo got those books. His mother's occupation is getting fired, etc. I loved the show initially, but now it is something else. I used to be excited about the upcoming episodes, but the last two, where we changed POV from Apollo, did it for me. We are already trying to piece his story together, and now we have two other characters to follow who are as unreliable as Apollo regarding what happens in the story. I think after the last episode, I will move on.

We don’t get to see when kindergarten and his army start destroying the wise ones and throwing entire trees at their boat. Don’t get to see Patrice and Apollo go to the cemetery and dig up “Brian” only to find that his Brian really was just an illusion, and was really just a bundle of hair and teeth and flesh, proving to him once and for all that his wife’s crazy erratic behavior was justified the whole time, and he’s appalled that he actually held and loved and fed such a gross disgusting monster illusion that wasn’t a baby, as Emma said. Now why would they waste two episodes on the shit they did, and not on the story I just explained?

I enjoyed the theater transitions but not the storytelling and editing. I felt it missed its mark until the young/old Lilly interaction. I'll have to watch it all again to really catch the dialog. The sick Brian scene was just too abstract to understand. The Lena Horne references etc. I did, however, understood that Apollo and Lilly were victims of different types of abuse from Brian. Apollo is not Brian’s son. If this is the case and Lilly sent Brian swimming with the fishes, who sent the box and the things to older teenage Apollo? Charles or some other mysterious being? That part is interesting. All that being said, Lilly obviously feels her decisions led to Apollos situation. Maybe it did… the book is the breadcrumb I believe.

You people are not getting the point I’m trying to make Apollo didn’t deserve any thing that happened to him but his mom is the reason the husband went crazy and did what he did leaving him alone for hours at that age to go be around her boss she literally killed her husband mentally before she killed him physically because she know how much he loved her and Apollo and she took all that away from him and he snapped none of it would have never happened if she didn’t do what she did now her demon is coming to hunt her and as a grown Apollo have to suffer because of her and face her demons because of the choices she made

It's all but explicitly stated that the boss is Apollo's biological father. I don't think there's any other interpretation that really makes sense.

Too many riddles, I get the theatre concept and the strory of the mother and the fact that the episode is a masterpiece, but it was boring I was just expecting to see Apollo and hoping that it unfolds normally but I guess the next episodes will be much better, great series over all.
