Miles (Toby Kebbell), Sam (Tyner Rushing), and Lee (C.S. Lee) and the rest of the crew at Happy Valley pick sides. Dani (Krys Marshall) is devestated when the mission fails and violence breaks out after she activates the CIA and KGB assets.

    Official Apple TV+ Logline:
Rocketing into the new millennium in the eight years since season three, Happy Valley has rapidly expanded its footprint on Mars by turning former foes into partners. Now 2003, the focus of the space program has turned to the capture and mining of extremely valuable, mineral-rich asteroids that could change the future of both Earth and Mars. But simmering tensions between the residents of the now-sprawling international base threaten to undo everything they are working towards.

Sorry about the stuffiness in my voice in this one but I've been battling with the flu this weekend. This was a great point to leave things because it feels like we might be able to transition to a different future. I'm sure there will be more setbacks along the way. Where do you see things going from here? It's a little hard to figure out who the main characters of next season will turn out to be. I'm excited about it though. Let me know what you think.

      @TheDollyce 4 месяца назад +41

You're right! Her first love: space exploration. That's what she and Aleida talked about. But a bonus is that she was finally able to escape Irina's clutches! Sergei outed Irina to Margo, and warned her about the danger of returning to Star City (Russia). Irina was tasked with getting Goldilocks captured, and once that was done, Margo would serve no further use. They'd have killed Margo. Or worse...a prisoner in a cold dank gulag in Siberia. Well, at least Margo has upgraded her prison environment! I could see a slight smile on her face as she was handcuffed and taken away. At least she's home. On the other front, having failed her mission, I think Irina is dead meat now. 😊

That "Free Mars" sign on one of the buildings on Goldilocks suggests that Mars (or at least a portion of the Martian population) is trying to be a more independent colony. That is definitely Dev and Ed's motivation for stealing Goldilocks. Ed and Dev want to stay on Mars and I think Kelly and Alex will stay too. Maybe Kelly will finally discover traces of life on Mars and will stay to continue her research and Alex seems to be 'healthier' on Mars. After what Lee did to that one North Korean officer, he and his wife will probably stay on Mars too and when Ed said to Lee that "This [Mars] is my home" Lee replied "Mine too". Also, Lee's wife came to Mars with a bunch of people. Maybe Mars (or at least Dev's Helios) starts accepting refugees to increase its population and its work force.

    • @richardtaylor1652
      @richardtaylor1652 4 месяца назад +7

Well Dev's ultimate goal is to make Mars a self-sufficient colony. Goldilocks basically guarantees that and together with Helios funding and support would make the M8 agreement somewhat obsolete.
It is a chance to start again for many people after seeing a whole season where politics trumps the ground needs and wants.

Such a great show, but although I agree with just about everything you said (especially progress isn’t free and Lee’s reunion), I couldn’t help but feel a little let down by this finale. I think it’s because I’d rather see on-screen deaths or writeouts than have them happen between seasons, or have everyone be old and kind of out of the game in S5. Nothing came out of Kelly’s search for life (yet), the gun turned out not to be that important (yes Dani getting shot stopped the riots but she was quickly completely fine again), and I guess there are more questions left than usual. But damn I love this show and hope we get much more! Thanks again Pete, really appreciate your efforts!

Like I don't mind some of it being present, but the previous seasons WAY overdid it in my opinion, wherever they could they had to jam in a relationship with absolutely no buildup or chemistry. As much as I love Ed and Dani, this episode (and season) really belonged to Margo and Aleida. They were PHENOMENAL this season! Their relationship seemed to mirror the Goldilocks/Mars trajectory, with Margo seemingly impossibly distant from Aleida, but the gravity of their relationship drew them back together. It felt like it might remain a distant relationship despite some brief proximity, but emotionally they couldn’t break free of each other in the end. If that makes any sense.
I’ve moved on to The Looming Tower now, which I somehow missed when it first appeared some six or seven years ago. I needed more Margo, and Wrenn Schmidt is one of the stars. It’s quite good, if not as impressive as For All Mankind.

The hallway shot hit me for a bit. One side is the strike team and the other side is the team that was on strike. They're still divided but this is bringing them together. It also speaks to humanity. We can't get out of our way. We carry the worst of us wherever we go. I think this is a moment where we start to get out of our way and go forward.
My only disappointment in this was that the time jump was not greater. I was hopeful we might jump ahead to 2020 to see greater advances. Perhaps the first half of Season 5 is 2012 but we jump up to 2020 in the second half. Risky and they'd have to get the stories right for it but it could open up so many options and get us to deep space faster in terms of the show.

I highly doubt they’d take it to 2020 in S5. The longest time jump they’ve head in a season is 5 years back in S1 (1969-1974). The 2020s would be reserved for S6.

    • @Hevach

Most seasons do a double time skip. Season 1 jumped from Apollo 14 to Jamestown, season 2 fast forwarded a while but didn't really do a full second skip, season 3 jumps over the whole preparation for the Mars launch. This season only did a few months.
2012 would put the timeline around where Aleida said they'd start to get a return on Goldilocks at Mars, but they'll need a few more years to start seeing the benefit, and I expect that'll be passed in another double jump.

    • @danive89

@@Hevach S2 is similar to S4. It happened in a span of a few months. It started in with the Solar Flare in May 1983 up to the nuclear reactor meltdown in September 1983. Actually that would mean that S4 had a slightly longer timeline from May-September 2003.

yea Margo made the right choice, she would've been killed in Russia or before. But her arc is complete, I don't know what they can do with Margo in Season 5 which hasn't been announced yet. Ed isn't going to a retirement home so maybe he will go out in a bang like the old school he is. Also Alex is around 18 now, so maybe he will be more important now. Dani should be teaching in NASA or maybe even run NASA. My opinion is that Margo will have cancer or something that will kill her soon while in prison, while Ed is dying as well from the condition he already has, and they do a shot on shot view of both handling their end of life afflictions. I do believe both will die next season. The show writers must add an X factor next season to continue the story. Alex must be the key. He's the legacy of the story. Ed will die on Mars, while Margo die in prison. There should be a grave site scene of both, with Aleida there for Margo's, and Dani's for Ed's. Like they said, progress isn't free.

Great ending, what shocked me was when Margo confronts Irina about Sergi's death and Eli is watching this and she confronts him as well in her stare and her eyes back to him and with his eyes he gives away his guilt- immediately Margo knew that Eli must have been informed about what Irina was planning Sergi death.
Whether he goes into full details from Irina or Irina disclosed this at the last minute and did not stop it because after all his career and also him being head of NASA and bringing Goldilocks to Earth would have cemented him later in life after he exited NASA, probably commercial space exploration. Great episode but this piece I was not expecting this, and maybe I was the only one who saw it, but I knew they did that shout purposely when they put the camera on him when Margo went ballistic against Irina but then the move the camera to him.

If you ever get a chance to ask the writers questions you should ask if why they didn't go with Mars mining instead of asteroid capture. Also have they ever considered Mars's moons, I feel like most sci fi stories ignore that fact.
I liked this season more then season 3 but they still make a lot of choices for the sake of drama that don't actually work and that really hurts my interest in wanting to rewatch the show.
As for the next season I can see terraforming being the big goal for the season. With the shot of Dev looking over the ice field besides thinking about Mars's water supply I can see him wanting to release the methane locked in there to jumpstart a ozone layer to help build a atmosphere. Then there's the Nation of Mars that would be used to most likely help almost everyone, Massey did to much to be safe, who was involved with stealing Goldilocks.

What happened to Sam after she fought Palmer outside the ship?
What happened to Miles and his wife on Earth who helped him smuggle goods between Mars and Earth?
What happened to all the crew who in some way broke the law? The news anchor says that they’ll be punished but we never saw that.

First off: Russia did Margo a favor of epic proportions in turning her over to the FBI, you wan to be imprisoned in the US as apposed to a Soviet Gulag after being tortured. This made me laugh while I watched it, like Margo just won the lottery. Also, unless Mars is completely self sufficient, and able to defend itself military, isn't every single person involved in the plot to steal Goldilocks, and every single person involved in the violent insurrection, going to earth prison? I mean, isn't Ed, Dev, and everyone else criminals that the US would bring to justice for what they did with Goldilocks? How can they just let them all stay on Mars, even if that's what they want to do. I think this might have been the end of the series, which makes me sad as I really enjoy it.

    • @mightheal

Nah the Russians can still easily kill Margo in a American prison so it's not really a big win.
The people who were in the brawl wouldn't go to prison that can be dealt with using base discipline or fines to their pay. The ones who were involved stealing Goldilocks would be sent to prison though, but I can see the writers coming up with Dev creating the nation of Mars to protect them so they would be stuck on Mars.

Like, how did you think they're getting ppl to talk?
Same goes for creating a goon squad to put everyone in line, and not seeing how ultimately they won't be answering to you.
I guess this is what happens, when even a character known for doing what's best for everyone, and being the one trying to solve a situations, not letting her own ego get in in a way, gets too wound up in a mission, and the exercise of authority.

It was totally inconsistent with her character..this is a supposed Trekkie who believes in the Gene Roddenberry vision for humanitys future....who said "f___k it" to NASA orders on Apollo-Soyuz and did the diplomatic mission anyway coz she believes in that future ....suddenly acting like a Bush or Obama or Trump national security goon from our timeline with a "do whatever it takes" (hint hint!) attitude to interrogation???
The only way of explaining it is this: they hint via the news article that in this timeline the Church committee stuff about the evil levels of abuse the CIA engage in never happened so the public thinks they are just gathering intel and occasionally stopping imminent threats that cant be dealt with via civilised means all Jason Bourne or Jack Bauer....and don't know as we do it's an agency culture that attracts sick fucks, paranoids and megalomaniacs who do a lot of unjustifiable evil.
Also of course post 9/11 revelations and the NSA abuses Snowmen leakes didn't happen yet or at all in this timeline so even astronauts may be more naive...still she's meant to be smart...but book smart people often are not street smart

This ending really cemented the feeling for me that this is like a precursor to The Expanse.
