    Geoff's voice is eargasmic, and his videos are better than some movies! This man could me a major star if he wanted to, but he's happy sharing his love of music and his talent on a smaller scale. It's not about money, or fame, or any of that. It's just a love he chooses to share with us. It's honestly a blessing.💙

    One thing you might not know since the last you followed him was for acapella, Geoff arranges all the instrumental parts, too. And plays them on the keyboard with plug-ins. Obviously the percussion is done differently. He also seems to be very particular in adding appropriate soundscapes as needed. He also shoots all the video with the help of his wife Kathy and with lighting usually set up on a computer by Eli (with whom he sings in VoicePlay). For some songs where he wants more movement in the filming, Layne (Beatboxer from VoicePlay) has shot it on SteadyCam.
    I suggest taking a dive into his other works. "I See Fire" is the follow-up to this (from the 2nd Hobbit movie), using the same 4 personas. I do not know which songs on his channel you might have already heard. If you have not yet heard it, I highly suggest "16 Tons" for which all the bass is sung entirely in chest voice. No subharmonics, even though his more recent covers often do use the subs. Another grouping of personas can be found in "Ghost Riders in the Sky" with the 'ghosts' then in his most recent "Unshaken" as 'themselves' pre-death.

    The Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim is a great VoicePlay cover for the immersion into a fantasy setting. For something completely different their version of In the Hall of the Mountain King is super fun.

    Thank you for a priceless reaction to Geoff. He loves to clone himself 3 or 4 times to harmonize with himself but not all his solos. Never the less all the voices you hear in his solo work is all him. Geoff & Voice Play are the masters at what they do.

    Geoff is a genius. His arrangements are superb, his voice and instrumentals are always just right. How he comes up with his ideas I have no idea. Such an imagination. And then the dedication to produce it and put it all togther. Genius. And so modest with it. And yes he does like to slide on and off notes. I think his beautiful nature comes across in his singing and you can always feel the emotion.

    If it’s been a while since you’ve checked in on VoicePlay, you may be in for some surprises. They’ve gone rock. And it’s amazing. Check their cover of Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters. They did a cover of Hellfire, from Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame. It’s a very dark villain song and Geoff is front and center. You may want to hear that too.

    Whatever he has released is my favorite… For a while. But I return to this one over and over again because it is so beautiful. It’s slow, sonorous, and soothing.
    You really have to check out the sequel (I See Fire from Desolation of Smaug) however because each of them gets a chance to sing for an extended period. In this one the other three were providing background vocals. Here we have Thorin Oakenshield, Fili, Kili and Bombur.
    And if you really love low bass you need to check out his cover of Unshaken. I can guarantee you will be shaken.
    For VoicePlay, my ongoing favorite is Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean 3. As an opera singer you should really enjoy it because there is a great set with incredible costumes, a bit of a story line. And the vocals are outstanding. It always reminds me of opera, but bite-size!
    If pirates aren’t your thing, you did mention fantasy worlds. They did Dragonborn/Skyrim from the games the Elder Scrolls. I’m not a gamer but this encouraged me to go out and check out the soundtrack. And Geoff’s opening note will rattle your bones. (And it’s another gorgeous set - probably my favorite…so far.)

    Great reaction and analysis! As others have mentioned, the 'sequel' to this, I See Fire has the same 4 characters, but they each have a part in the song - it gave me chills when I first heard it! Both Geoff and Voiceplay are amazing, doing most of it all themselves - no label, completely independent to do what they want - and we love them for it! Subscribed for more!

    I am sure you have noticed that Geoff does not stick to a cappella in his solo channel, but we are still happy to hear his voice. He chooses such appropriate music and does not overwhelm us with it.
    Please do react to any or all of his works. I look forward to accompanying you on this delightful journey of discovery.

    Thank you for this amazing insight from your perspective and welcome (back) into the wonderful world of acapella music with Geoff, VoicePlay and so many other amazing acapella groups, but I have to confess VP (and Geoff) are favorites for me. I hope that you will continue with these reactions with Geoff and, even broaden out to VoicePlay. They have been making amazing music (without music) and I would love to hear your take on them now vs what you heard from them before. Thanks again.

    Welcome to the amazing and cosy Voiceplay/Geoff rabitthole. It would be so wonderful, if you could take us with you on your journey into their/his arrangements. I subscribed immediately ;-)
    It is so impressing, how good you are able to show what you feel.
    Of course it would be cool if you could watch "I see fire" next, but I think, also "The sound of silence" from Geoff could be quite interesting, since you connected the deep notes of him with a kind of silence, which I really feel 😍

    I enjoyed your review of Geoff Castellucci. Since you appreciate the bass voice, I would love to hear your opinion of The Bass Gang, a mainly acappella group of four bass singers. Two Americans, Peter Barber (opera singer in his day job and a RUclips reviewer), Bobby Bass (also a member of The Wellermen), Tomi P (from Czech Republic) and Marwan Ayman (from Egypt). I suggest a recent release, a cover of If I Had a Heart, with guest artist, opera singer Ekaterina Shelehova.

    That was beautiful , love this song and this voice is incredible and amazing . The song suit him very well.
    You love bass? Do you now Forestella, it’s a vocal male quartet and one of them is a bass profundo, the others are tenor, counter tenor and barytone. The tenor and the bass are operatic trained, the barytone is a musical actor and the counter tenor is a gifted freak with no training . they have a lot of covers and also incredible originals song and I wish one day, they will made a cover of that beautiful song and all the song in Lords of the ring ( see fire and the beautiful song sing by Peregrin) .
    If you want to discover the ability of this bass profundo and all the group ( they are truly kings of harmonies ) I suggest you their cover of Bohemian Rapsody , Time in the bottle , angel ( my favorite) and legends never die, and for their originals, if you love epic songs, save our lives ( the mv video , because the live have an audio problem) and white night.
    Thank you for this reaction, you have me discovered an incredible singer 🙏😃 love that a lot!!!
    Edit: I want straight to my music application to find Geoff Castelluci and man I m falling in love with his voice, so so beautiful . Again, thank you.

    • @johndeeregreen4592
      @johndeeregreen4592 3 месяца назад

      The "bass" from Forestella isn't a bass, let along a basso profundo. He struggles to get below G2 and was a bit weak on the D#2 doing the inverted 5th of the G# chord. He is a low baritone. Great voice but he is not a true bass.

    • @johndeeregreen4592
      @johndeeregreen4592 3 месяца назад

      To put it into perspective: Geoff on the above reaction, his low note he kept revisiting was a G1; this is one octave and one semi-tone deeper than the "bass" in Forestella was hitting on the root note for the I chord in "Bohemian Rapsody". And even Geoff isn't a basso profundo. Geoff is a true bass, however.

    • @legende827
      @legende827 3 месяца назад

      @@johndeeregreen4592 i m not an expert like you seems to be , so I believe you in this😅 . And you say Geoff Castelluci is not a bass profundo??
      My god, his voice is so deep!! So if you know a real bass profundo singer , please let me know, I want to listen to that !! Thank you .

    • @johndeeregreen4592
      @johndeeregreen4592 3 месяца назад

      @@legende827, a basso profundo is more about the ability to sing low AND unamplified. A real basso profundo must be able to sing an Eb2 at fortissimo. That's basically a piano playing at 3/4 volume. They must also be able to project a C2 within a choir. There are many basso profundos who can go much lower and are much louder than even that. The greatest of the basso profundos is Glenn Miller.

You should check them out for sure!

    I hope you can get around to covering the version of this song by Peter Hollens feat. Tim Foust (from Home Free) called Misty Mountains. I love comparing Geoff's and Tim's voices here, especially on that final low note. I see several recommendations here for Geoff's I See Fire. I'd also recommend that number done by Peter Hollens and see why I think of him as the King of Layering. I am amazed by Peter's version every time. I think you should also check out The Bass Gang. Start with Arabian Nights (which is the first in a connected series of videos) and Gaston, which features their opera singer Peter Barber and is part of that series. Peter is also a reactor and it is so fun to watch his face as reacts to his own groups videos while seeing the finished product for the first time.
