The idea that Matt Freeman would offer me bass lessons blows my mind... but thats what I'm going to request. Lessons olease Sir Matt! 😁
More songs from the first self titled album! Those bass lines are crazy!
Hey, Mr. Freeman thanks for keep the videos coming. It would be very nice to see a video of you answering some questions from your fans (me included) I really would like to know about the backstage, how you guys in Rancid prepare for tours, how you guys pick songs to put on the setlist, songwriting and so on. Thanks agains!
Black Derby Jacket is such a great one to me, lyrics & vocal straight in our hearts
A very underrated Rancid song. Just love it !
Hell yeah.
Matt Freeman with another BANGER!
That totally rocked! Insomuchas I will replay it,, now.
I think I speak for us all when I say we want to see you play shake down on your stand up.
Great tune. The awesome bass is the icing on the cake
Go off the track as far as you want brother Matt. I'm here for the ride!
A nice one, once again. I bought the cd when i was in the United States a few years ago !
dooont ever doubt yourseeeeelf myyy brooother we oonly got a ghost of a chaaance
Amazing! Ultimately I want to hear every song off the first self-titled LP. I love it all, but that album is so raw, I love it a lot!
Matt! What I would love to see is a video on how you come up with the lines you play in songs, the in between root note runs ala Maxwell Murder, Journey To The End..., etc.. your fast runs are a signature of your style, and the coolest part to me.
I second this - I’m always pretty amazed at how many different melodic ideas Matt comes up with . I mean there are only so many notes and chord progressions and Matt always has new ideas with how to connect those chords with differnet meolodic runs. And I have figured out and stolen quite a few of them for my own band back in late 90s lol
thanks Matt!
It’d be neat to see healthy body or artificial life. Again, Mr. Freeman thank you so much for taking the time out to give us a snapshot of the music you have played on and or written with Rancid.
Rancid so firee
I love this song
So rad!! 🔥
Arrive at work, sees Matt has posted a video. Well, work can wait for about 2 and a half minutes.
Would love to hear any and all from Devil's Brigade by the way! It's a killer record.
Yeaaaah ❤❤❤❤
Great tune !
The play alongs of Rancid songs are always great, but some other ideas are: rig/pedal/bass rundowns, discussion (or playalongs) of your influences as a bassist, and what it is that makes your style uniquely yours. Thanks for making this channel!
I can't think of any songs where Matt uses a pedal.
Yea!!
Matt: "I like this song because it showcases our drummer."
Also Matt:
Thanks for the video Matt. Would love to see play alongs to Black Lung or 1998 from Life won’t wait!
My favorite song on the album! Thanks Matt!! Definitely keep playing it at the live shows, it rocks!
I watch these videos when I wake and bake. ❤ please don't stop posting!
Honestly one of my favorite Rancid songs ever! So inspiring!
Hey Matt great video, can you do one for “the crowd” or “radio”
I second 'The Crowd'
Love this song and the bass line is the best as always!
I would say the same
@@MrPeteBaker Honestly one of my favorite Rancid songs ever!
My first introduction to RANCID was the cover art for …And Out Come the Wolves. After a few years of mainstream alternative grunge rock, I was looking for something new and exciting that none of my friends were in to. Green Day was cool, but also too mainstream. I fell in love with that album, then I dove into the first two albums, then Op-Ivy and then the world of punk rock as a whole. I’ve been to so many of your concerts and at 45, I still have a great after-concert picture with Lars and myself in 1998 at the Electric Factory in Philly. Black Derby Jacket is one of my all time favorites 🖤
Awesome video Matt, you’re so talented never stop playing 🖤
Awesome as always keep them comin
Thank you so much for these!
Just came back from a hard day of work. Usualy when I'm workin I play all my fav albums but almost daily Let's go! It's like a motivational fuel. So, long story short, Rancid is on my daily menu. Thank you guys for your work! Cheers! ❤
Absolutely LOVE these bunker sessions, Matt! I use these to study your techmiques, especially your picking placements wherever it fits the song.
Can't wait to hear you in Seattle 🤘 Wish i could offer a drink after the show, lol!
Master parce
So much fun to watch these. Love ‘em
Great video Matt! I'm loving it!
Thanks Matt another amazing video Would love to see you do Cocktails
I really like the tutorials. The making of songs. Also some history on when you first started playing Bass. But I dig all the stuff you have put out on your channel. Very interesting stuff. Thank you 🙏
I would love to see a playthrough of one of these days. I love that bass line
Also, I hope start now is on the set list this summer.
Black derby jacket ❤
I remember the first time I heard this song I was like damn, this band is never going to run out of bangers. Great song and bass line
Beautifully done as always! Would love to see Let Me Go or Radio Havana some time! Keep up the great work! Love to see these!
More lesson videos! Literally any song! Especially White Knuckle Ride, though 😏
MESTRE!
Fantastic Album!!!
Hey Matt, thanks so much for doing this, it's awesome to be able to see how you play all these songs we've all be enjoying for decades.
One thing I'd be interested in hearing about is your music background and how you got started. Cheers!
This is by far my favorite channel on yt! I'm sure you hear it often by Maxwell Murder is what got me into playing bass guitar so I would love to see you do that beast. Thanks again for posting these.
Matt Freeman has a fucking RUclips channel?! My drummer just sent this link to me and I am giddy over this shit. Matt, you are THE main inspiration behind the style, speed, and rhythm in my bass lines. Just subbed and will get lost in a rabbit hole of your videos from here on out!
Love that you do this, Matt! Haha, you make it look so effortless. Since you're taking requests, how about one of my favorite oldies but goodies with a similar name...Ghost Dance!
Thank you, great man Matt ! I really love this song🎶And of course I love Matt's bassline🎸✨
Bloodclot, I'm gonna keep pushing for it
Show us 100 years from the B Sides and C Sides... awsome basslines in that song 👊🏼
I love your channel Matt! Would love to see you play Radio 🤘
Thanks Matt!
How about a video on your amps and eq settings, where you put mid, treble, and bass to get your tone?
love Troublemaker, that album came out in my uni days here in Salamanca, Spain. Really special one. Awesome bass lines as always Matt
I did a quick look and I'd love to hear 'Jaded' with stand out bass!
Show us the influences that helped develop your style on Energy. Did you learn James Jamerson bass lines first? Talk about your guys use of minor chords to create dissonance in a major chord progression and how you use passing notes in the same way. How do you start after you have an idea? Show us an example of how you crafted one of your melodies on bass! Thank you 🙏🏼 and I loved the vid today!
Thanks Matt!!!! i was totally listening this song right now… I hope this is on the current tour list.
Red Hot Moon
Axiom solo!
Would love some lesson videos!
I would also appreciate gear vids.
How to dial in a proper bass tone.
How you decide what to write for bass parts.
Devil’s brigade and Charger!
I love your channel! Could you please do a walk through/lesson of the Maxwell Murder solo?
It would be cool to see how when you’re given a chord progression how you go about coming up with bass lines. Thanks!
Great playing! Love the lines in this. Never realised how cool they were until watching this. Bass needs to be more prominent in new rancid albums. Feel like it needs some cool distortion like it had in 2000.
Also I miss Brett tbh. Always wondered why he left?
Radio. Radio. Radio.
I would absolutely be psyched to see how you did the bass line in Bad Trip (Auntie Christ) ... totally ripping and under appreciated tune
These videos are great Matt, thanks so much for doing them.
As a bassist trying to learn these lines it would be amazing if you could pick out any parts/patterns in the different songs that you think are interesting, difficult or unique in some way (maybe at the end of the full playthrough), or show how you move between the notes in some of the really fast parts. Not really a how to video, just picking out bits you really like etc.
That would be super helpful to pick up better technique or to properly appreciate how much is going on (there are some bits that are so fast that I have to slow it down to the point where the sound goes weird).
hell yea .. Can you do your bassline from your guyses song " Corruption " that would be dooope i still bump it all the time haha
it would be really cool to see you play the bottle off the first album. That opening baseline is crazy.
Hearing you explain the song writing process would be interesting.
Thank you for this! Can you play Prisoners Song?
Would love break down lessons of songs now and again
👍
Can you do "The Bottle" and "7 Years Down?" I love all of the videos you post!
Bass is a bit quieter on this one. Still a fantastic song and a great bassline!
My son is learning bass.Would be good to hear your advice and what you would recommend he practise.Riffs, scales etc that helped you when you began.Cheers
Could you let us know what you were playing in the early days of Rancid. I see some videos of you playing a bass that has a head-stock similar to a Jackson
Matt I have a question- All these years, all these similar chord progressions(there are only so many available), all these songs, all these basslines- do you still surprise yourself with new melodic ideas and runs you never came
up with before? I’m always amazed at how many differnet ways you can connect two chords lol. I wonder when the next time that chord progression comes up you’re like oh shit I gotta come up with a new way to make G-C-D sound fresh
Next what about Adina 1st track on Rancid '93? Killer bassline
Hey Matt! Could you show some of your gear? Amps or effects you use live? Thanks!
I would like, after you execute the song you spend a little of time explaining what you played. For example “I put this phrase here because it I felt it merge well with the guitar”; “here in the chorus I play this for giving accents to Tim’s lyrics”. Something like this! not too long. Just on the parts you think were important for the song.
Anyway thank you very much for sharing your playing with us!
Did you play mandolin on Lars Frederiksens My Life is Just like a Car Crash :)
Play RADIO HAVANA please
Great choice 🔥
fucking crack!
Hey man, I found you're wallett In Toronto. I guess you and you're Legendary band better come get it. You can bring you're instruments and amps and shit and play you're bitching songs if you want, were cool with that. That's what southern Ontario Canada wants! To see you're cannel broadcast RANCID in 2024 in TORONTO!!!!!!!
There is a mathematical dimension to Robert Trivers theories that I can’t shake; something Dawkins doesn’t have… Even though the benefits from Dawkins feel more immediate… I probably wouldn’t be in the horrible shape I am in right now if it weren’t for that “exotic” theory
Would you be willing to play some kamala and the karnivores? Or are you just sticking to Rancid?
Wow. Your going deep. I played on one track on that record. I’m not sure I even have a a copy of that. Thanks for the suggestion.
@MattFreemansBassBunker yeah!! Back to Bodie, right? I love it, it feels like great rockabilly.
Matt, Play Dead bodies
What you play is just fucked up!! 😳♥️♥️♥️♥️.. You are dammed awosome♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
