As a Rancid Fan I really appreciate this kind of content, I think it's a way to get just little closer to people you admire and everyone here know how legendary this P bass is. Thanks again for the video Sir.
More! More! More! All the basses, all the guitars, all the everything. This is food for the eyes.
Agreed 🤘🤘🤘
I bought mine MattFreeman signature Squier in Milan for 450€.
Very hard to find in Europe.
I play it all the time.
❤
More basses you have? YES PLEASE!
Yes, more bass videos! The jazz bass on AOCTW would be interesting. And the signature bass too. All of it haha
This bass is punk rock history. I loved this video. I am also a proud owner of the Matt Freeman Squier bass. One of the best basses I own and it cost a fraction of what some of my others did.
You answered so many questions I've had for so many years! Thanks for this.
I'd love to see you cover your Matt Freeman Squier bass.
Ive been waiting for this video since 1997 when I first heard Rancid. Your 1977 P bass to me, a bass player, is like Hendrix's Strat to most guitar players. Thanks so much, Matt!
Matt I’m your fan 20yrs long from China. I love those late 70s white P Bass just because of you. I went to Japan to see Rancid live which was one of my happiest moment in life. In 2008, I bought my first Fender 78P which is blonde-white and it brought me so much fun in the past yrs! Earlier this year, I eventually bought a genuine Olympic-white Fender P from late 70s when I traveled in the US , which is exactly the same color as your 77.P. This is my dream, thank you for inspiring me across the ocean.
Would love to see more of everything, basses, amps, how you get your tone, practice routines, etc etc, thanks for the videos Matt!
Absolutely! More of these videos, please. 3 reasons why I bought my Fender white p bass and slapped a black pickguard on it, Paul Simonon, Dee Dee Ramone, and of course, yourself.
The sound of that bass is driven into my heart. I'm happy it's so well loved🎉
I love the detail you go into. People always call their instruments "just tools" without showing appreciation for the tools they make their work with.
I’d love to see more videos about your Basses, Matt!!
Growing up, I learned bass by playing along with you, to your records, so to see these videos and content is like a full-circle experience for me. Thank you Matt.
That is THE bass! Would love to see the Jazz as well.
I bought a bass a few years ago, i'm still killing my fingers on maxwell murder, this video is so freaking awesome
I just like re-living my teens here, so I'm stoked for whatever!
I'd love other videos like this -- in addition to play-alongs and other stuff. Pretty much, whatever you want to do or talk about, I'm guessing the majority of us will geek out to it. Thank you for always sharing all you do 😀
YES I WOULD LIKE MORE BASS AND GEAR VIDEOS 😁
Really appreciated the look at your bass! Us fans/bass players are always down to find out about your gear.
Hey Matt! Long time fan! Please do more in depth bass videos like this. So cool to see this up close and learn about it!
Maybe a bass collection video one day? Thanks for all the years of awesome bass playing and music!
Hola Matt soy Traver de la legendaria banda punk argentina 13 Puñaladas, saludos desde Argentina, aguante el punk rock y el Bajito!!! Abrazo idolo!
Hell yeah, show us some more basses you’ve played! So cool to hear all the history of that bass.
The 3 pioneers that made me get into playing bass is matt freeman steve harris and alex webster ...legends
there is some kind of magic on those 70s precision basses!
Would love to see/hear more about your basses. Especially the Jazz from ...And Out Come The Wolves, the internet argues to this day whether you used a Jazz or a Precision on that record.
Love seeing musician’s old, well played basses in the kind of detail.
You’re such a legend, dude. I was 15 when “and out come the wolves” was released and I spent hours playing along learning the bass parts. This such a thrill to see. Thanks for sharing
The bass of legends!
Got to see you live in Memphis quite a few years ago and got to talk to you about basses at the time. You played a Geddy Lee jazz that night and just absolutely killed it!
I remember talking to you about a signature model. This was before the Squiers.
I loved this rundown! I got the original Op Ivy record when I was 10 in 1990 from my older sister and it changed everything for me.
Do your whole rig tour - amps, preamps, pedals, etc
Matt you changed my life. I used to try and learn your lines when I was younger for hours and hours. I learned so many techniques that I would use for the rest of my life. Thanks for sharing this content and remaining humble regardless of being a living legend and also many kids’ hero
So cool! Would love to see the jazz and maybe you could talk about the differences and your preferences.
We're one step closer to the Matt Freeman rig rundown we've always wanted haha
Love "Crimpshrine" written between the bridge and guard. Would love to see a video on the guitars behind you as well as your stand up bass(es) during the Devils Brigade days
This is so exciting. I’m only 20, but I’ve been daydreaming about playing your basslines since I was a 10 year old girl listening to Op Ivy with my dad. I got an electric bass when I was 12 after deciding to pick up the upright, and have been trying to coherently play Op Ivy songs since then. This year, I finally have gotten to that point, and am SO explosively excited about it, and then I stumble upon this channel!!!! What a blessing!!!! You are such an inspiration!
I love this, please do more! The history of that bass is mind blowing to the rest of us. ;)
I bought an olympic white p Bass because of you and dee dee too! Love these bass , so good to play ! Thanks for the video !
Please do more videos like this! How about a video on your love for jazz and precision basses. I would also love to hear about the squier. I hope fender can reissue them at a good price. I recall it as the best sounding bass I’ve ever tried in a music store.
Such an iconic bass! I actually built my own 70’s Precision modeled after these white ones. Definitely do more bass/gear rundown videos!!
Matt, thank you so much for making this. In my opinion, this is most notable Fender P Bass in all of punk history.
I wanted to get one of your signature Squier P Basses when they were available new, but my finances never lined up quite right. They are even more expensive now on the used market! Maybe Fender needs to do another run?
I'd love to see a video about what it was like working with Fender to create your signature P Bass. Also, tell us about the guitars hanging on your wall, ever since you started these back during the pandemic I always wondered what their story was.
Thanks!
Please, more videos like this one! Thanks, Matt, you're awesome!
I do bought your signature back in 2012, i changed the pickup with some Fender 63's and sanded the back of the neck just enough to remove the shine for fadter action. It is my favorite instrument and i will re-install the pickup that came with it soon. Thanks for your videos as I really enjoy to know more about you, your gear and your talent.
this bass is a huge part of punk history and i only hope one day when its live its life we are able to see it in the punk museum in Vegas. I'm sure that's a long ways away.
What a tasty bass !🎸
Using since "Operation Ivy"?
Master Matt with a very nice vintage bass✨
So cool to see a legend like Matt just playing with everything stock and not messing with it. Looks well loved!
I bought a 2000's Fender P Bass 24 years ago just influenced by you and I still play on it!!!
Thanks for being a constant inspiration I wouldn't be able to play bass for shit with out learning your bass lines when I first started playing bass I learned pretty fast and thought I was hot shit until my friend silver put in his operation ivy record and said oh yeah can you play this shit and was floored so I spent the next six months learning all the op ivy songs and the three rancid albums that were out at the time and for the first time ever playing bass got me laid by a hot skinhead punk chick and i dated her for a while tried to start a band with her brother but he just couldnt pay attention long enough to learn the songs
Never been a massive punk fan, but this boy is fucking monstrous. The nofx cover of sticking in my eye is awesome
yeah, as a base player who has been chasing your sound forever it was really awesome for you to give an overview of this bass.... the brightness it has is very unique
Time to send it to the punk rink museum!
Yes!!! More content on your basses, Matt!! There’s one in particular I’ve always been curious about that has your name inlayed on the fretboard, looks kinda rickenbacker-ish
I love how much character this bass has. It's so impressive to see an artist use the same instrument for most of their career. See also the Bouncing Souls guitars.
Would love to see a side by side sound comparison of the Fender and Squire.
Legend!
I'd love to hear just isolated bass tracks from the albums so I can learn how to play more accurately. I love that bright bass tone. I only ever wanted to learn Matt Freeman style bass
Great video Matt. Would definitely enjoy seeing more of this type of video. Really cool how you talked about the stickers and other oddities surrounding that beautiful bass. Thank you for this.
As a Rancid fan and a bassist that’s probably the most iconic instrument of my life.
I wish they would do another Squier run of these, hard to find used and worth a ton when you do.
I would love to see more videos about your gear
I've got the black squier matt freeman signature p bass. It's my favorite bass.
Thats the tool that laid down some of punks most enduring basslines...
Thanks, for sharing!
Thank you sir!
This was awesome. Thank you!!!
I know some people aren’t into Fenders but honestly look at well that instrument has held up after 40 years and 30 years of shows and recordings. I’ve never played a genuine fender P but man, do I have a lot of respect for those instruments. I also appreciate Matt playing a Squire at live shows bc there are valid reasons to use professional grade instruments, there’s some pretentiousness about it too.
What an honor to have a reissue made, huh? Dude, that is one incredible bass! Cherish it and make sure that it goes into the right hands when you're gone... I'd love to see more videos and hear more stories about your guitars. Yes. Cheers!!
Thanks so much for this! Love the deep dives and play alongs 👏
Definitely would love to see more Basses!
I really appreciated this, I like story's and things
You rock Mr. Freeman. Big fan of MDC 😎🤟🎸
Cool bass, I love instruments with mileage and history.
My first bass was a White Jazz with a silver scratch.
Sounds amazing
This is really cool. Thanks, Matt.
This is awesome man, Thanks for sharing 😎
The most down to earth bad ass on the planet 🤘
Videos like this are what makes YT awesome. Thanx Matt!
Thanks for your video Matt :)
This is amazing! Yes please do more like this!
Love these videos about your bass collection. Keep them coming
I have two of your sig models and they are by far some of the best basses I own. I own more than 10 and some are a couple grand. You are the reason I started on bass in ‘95. Thank you MF.
Definitely a video on the squier
Another cool video, grateful for it being put together
i love that bass ❤
Truly fascinating. Cool video. Thank you for sharing
A lot of stories behind this bass, that’s a very cool idea to focus on these details !
Great.
What a piece of history! Thanks for sharing matt 🔥
That's the same reason I love my white p bass. The maple neck is always a plus too!
This is wonderful! Thank you
You are awesome Matt.
This was really cool
Loved this!
More gear videos please!
I've always been a fan of what artists play from instruments to rigs! I always scope out what's on the stage. This was a great vid for all of us fans and I'd be honored to see more about your different instruments. I love the guitars behind you too!
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day also Saturday is my friends birthday ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
I want more of the Matt Squire! I missed that in Europe and they are not easy to come by these days in the used market
Please please please do one on the OCTW sessions bass. I really enjoyed this one!! Thanks Matt!!
