Love his face when he plays some of the older stuff. It's like he's saying, "what was i thinking when i wrote this???"
lol i think thats more of a "this is hard af" face hahaha
Everyone gushes over Maxwell Murder, but that first LP was just chock full of blistering basslines.
Yes. All of that
@@ThinkyPain Foreal bro. That first LP had the sickest basslines.
Smiling and still loving it... its awesome to see
I dont think I have ever seen anyone have so much fun playing music.
One of my favorite Rancid songs ever. In my opinion, this is the one that should still be in the live set.
Agreed, even after seeing them 4 times in Detroit, it was never played there. We were waiting for it. I will be patient. Things to come..?
@@Ty-138 I have definitely seen them play Detroit live, and I'm pretty sure I have seen them open the show with it. What I can't remember is if it was in Detroit or in Chicago. I almost think it was at the House of Blues in Chicago. I can't remember. It's hell to get old!
Matt, unless you make one of these videos for "Holiday Sunrise" I will forever be convinced that there's NO ONE on Earth who can actually play the bass line to the song properly.
Yeah me too bro. In addition, Holiday Sunrise has excellent dynamics. Love this song, love this Record, love Matt Freeman :>
How big happiness is to see your bass hero playing his tunes with such a joy... We are waiting for White Knuckle Ride. 😊
My god. This is the song I play people when they claim anyone other than Matt Freeman is the greatest bass player to ever live.
Came here to post this or “Clockwork Orange”
Hi Matt , I would really like to dope sick girl, Adina. Ohhhh man sound system. Rancid and Op Ivy have been a part of my life since I was a youngster. Thanks for having this series for the fans Matt!!!!
i second Adina
@@friend_xtra third, love that song so much
My 3 favorite Rancid song of all time. “Old Friend” is my all time favorite Rancid song.
He looks like a Teamster. Talks like a calm Special Forces dude. And he plays the bass the way Miles Davis played the damn trumpet. The guy is the definition of legend.....except he's still here chillin on the couch being a genius. Unicorn mafk.
This song brings me back to a time I was “trying out” for a band in high school. Went to guitar center with a couple friends who wanted to see what I could do and this is the song I played. When I played the intro, they looked at each other and were shocked. They didn’t know rancid like I did. Matt, you’ve inspired so many bass players with your phenomenal bass lines!
this is all a dream come true as a life long freeman fan!! as an upright bass player myself, would love to see some Devils Brigade stuff and the basses youve played in the studio, ive seen a white one in live videos on youtube, your technique and so on. cheers matt!
Thanks. There will be more stuff about my bases. I might try to do a DB song. Im really out of practice on the upright.
@@MattFreemansBassBunker do Bridge of Gold pleaaaaaseeee
Matt, this is the song that inspired me to buy a bass and I still can't play it at full speed, after nearly 20 years of on-and-off practicing it! You are the greatest bass player in my mind.
One of my absolute favorites!
one of my all-time favorite Rancid track and seeing how much you still enjoy playing it makes it a million times better and I didn't think that was possible. You're definitely a legend.
Amazing! This channel is the best thing to happen in a long time! Please do Adina or the bottle soon
Also a play along to the TV show Barney Miller theme would be pretty sweet or your rendition of it
Once I travelled to the US (I'm from Spain) and did a bus trip from Boston to NYC listening to this song in a loop. I didn't have my bass at that moment, but this was the first song I practiced when came back home.
Awesome!
Matt, these videos have inspired me (at 54) to pick up bass after 40 years of playing guitfiddles. Been playing 4 strings for a year now, has revitalized my love for music, and I'm actually way better than playing 6 strings. Thanks for the inspiration; you are one of the most underrated bassists ever. Peace, bro.
This is still one of my favorite Rancid songs since I heard it in ‘93! Love these videos!
These bass lines are insane!!
When we were 15 (‘93), we spent two days learning the verse bit of Detroit on our bass guitars. The rest was a bit much at the time, lol. Freeman taught me how to play fast major scales on the bass. Thanks, man.
Show us that fender jazz and play us something from life won't wait! Thank you Matthias "Mr." Freeman.
Ha. Thanks dude. I really appreciate this. I can't believe the way you play some songs. Some are in completely different positions than what I've seen/ played and thought were dead on.
This is one of the ones that I was waiting for.
my favorite bassline of hardcore ever
Hah, this is basically the first song i play on a new bass to see how well it plays and has been for 20 years. Much love Matt
I remember seeing you guys in southern Virginia somewhere (Norfolk?) back in '93 after this album came out. I think it was some dive bar and there weren't many people, but it was a great time and we got to hang around briefly with you all at the bar after the show.
Absolutely the best!
Cheers from Detroit!
My favorite rancid song favorite rancid album. This album gives me energy and some good memories of some bad places. Hoover st a good one backslide too anything off life won’t wait that album is underrated or maybe it’s not anymore but I remember ppl not give that album a fair shake.
I did a video on Back Slide way back in 2020. It would be in the videos if you scroll down. Thanks for watching
Rancid 1993 is one of the best punk albums recorded. I saw you on Pitt Campus at Bellfield hall in 1994 with Avail and Pink Lincolns.Great show and you and Tim were so nice when l talked to you.
Watching these videos has been a reliable highlight of every week for me. I'm pretty sure I spent the summer of '96 in my basement with my first bass and unreliable tabs just brute forcing my way into learning as much of ...And Out Come the Wolves as possible. I'm pretty sure that learning to play along to that is the only reason I became okay enough to join a shitty teenage punk band. Now - nearly 30 years later - I'm in a shitty middle-aged punk band! Thanks, Matt!
This is still my favourite line of yours and, in my opinion, proof that you aren't actually human. Absolutely insane talent.
Matt, Matt, Matt…
Most note-dense bass lines sound too technical or prog-rock-y, but yours are fast and dense and sound absolutely fantastic! So melodic.
Putting on my good headphones
One of my favorite songs off that album -- that and Adina are just awesome.
First like and One of the First songs that made me fall in love ❤😂
The bass lines on the first album are all amazing and cool✨ very technically impressive and have a great sense of style🎸
Master Matt is truly amazing !!
One of my fave song ever ❤
Smiling the whole time you were playing along with you. Such a fun song!
Hell yes!! I've always wanted to see a close up of this song. Amazing!
It is always so incredible to watch a master of their craft, show us their art. Thank you for the decades of inspiration Mr. Freeman. I've been a fan since the Op Ivy/ Dance Hall Crashers days.
Completely brilliant!!!
I love Matts bass bunker! We appreciate you Matt! There's too many to name but I would say solidarity or a power inside.
amazing!
F**king awesome Matt, this song always had me thinking wth and to see u play it evokes the same feeling, could listen to play thru this whole album to be honest, outside of that black derby jacket is close to my heart, thanks for giving us fans a glimpse
These videos are awesome of the nine times I've seen rancid play. The one thing I always take away is how much fun you're having when you're up there on stage. Watching these videos is like going to a show and seeing you play live each and every time. Keep up the good work. It's amazing!
BTW awesome shirt I saw them play at the colony in Sac a couple of months ago!
this song has so many great licks. Thanks for making this channel and posting, its so awesome to see exactly how you play and approach these songs. great stuff!🤟🤟
Shredding!
So rad seeing this one played. Thank you Matt! Rancid 93 was one of the first things I tried to play along to when I was learning bass in 2000, 2001 high school days. Could never get that chorus line fast enough. Would love to see Axiom or White Knuckle Ride at some point- Oh and some upright playing would be fun to see at some point as well like Lady Liberty or stuff from Devil's Brigade.
But til then I'll be happy and content with anything you wanna post.
This song is proper nostalgic brings back memories, killing it on the bass as always Matt!
YESSS!! played along with this track countless times.
QUESTION: It would be so easy to do simple root/5th bass lines, what pushed you to go as "extra" as you did? That was so amazing to see up close like this.
My god, you are fucking amazing to watch play! Rancid has been my favourite band since 1995! I've seen you live too many times to count, and every show is so fucking great!
Low End University sent me. Though I've dug Rancid for many a moon.
YES!!
Great song, great album! You are ripping it. Love you Matt!
love it
Rancid 1 will forever be a feel good album for me I bought that and warning: and fell in love with both records.
Альбомы 1993 и 2000 одни из моих любимых у Rancid. Спасибо, Мэтт, выкладывай дальше видео с рифами.
I keep watching your videos via the Low End University RUclips channel and I’m always as blown away as much as he is:) These are amazing playthroughs!
Thank you Matt amazing stuff as usual! keep 'em coming!
Ive been waiting for this one
Thank you for making so many of our dreams come true with these videos!
I can't wait to see you guys this summer. You are a huge inspiration and have been since op ivy.
One of my favourite ever records. Thank you so much for making these videos Matt.
I was out of breath watching you try and play that. So good.
Thank you so much for that. Always had a hard time with the faster part of the intro
this is so much fun matt, keep doing this
I want to learn every song in this album!! I can actually play this one!! I'm so glad I can see Matt play it from beginning to end
I went his weekend to a bassclass and everyone talked about their favorite bass player, I talked about mine, Mr. Freeman and I was proud. Thank you, again! Cheers! ❤
Thanks!
This is one my favorites rancid songs, soooooo good. Thanks Matt!
So epic! 🔥🤘
Finally! Detroit!
My favorite song of my favorite rancid album, awesome Matt!
Thank you for making these! Some of my favorite bass lines are from that album! I would love to see 1998 from Life Won't Wait!
Nice! Thank you! Fan since 94. Love you man.
Matt, you are the reason I picked up bass decades ago. I’ve spent the last 30 years of my life teasing out your bass lines.
You’ve contributed to the soundtrack of my life, from epic parties to hanging out with friends to the toughest times. Through my early teenage skate punk phase, street punk phase, skinhead phase, and now middle age, you’ve always been in rotation with Op Ivy and Rancid.
You are a master craftsman and a maestro who deserves all the recognition and accolades. I tip my hat to you.
I would love to see Freeze Up in a future Bass Bunker video.
I can’t say see ya in the pit anymore because my old ass will be at the bar, but the sentiment remains.
So good.
Dude! Thank you so much for this.
Hell yeah! Been waiting for this one.... THANK YOU MATT
Yeahhhh Amazing bass line, a piece of an amazing song. I'm still listening the entire album
Greatest bass player in punk...ever
Without a doubt.
This was great! Respect from Detroit. I would love to see the bass bunker perform "Black Lung"!
Really this was my first impression of Rancid. This was my new favorite bass line by my new favorite bass player 93-94' Long overdue in saying...thanks Matt!
Having heard bands you've been in before seeing them live or on video, I was always amazed by your playing. Then seeing you play was more amazing. Now...I'm amazed how effortless you make it look. I know this one wasn't a perfect play through, but there are ridiculous moments in it, and I friggin' loved it! Thanks!
Dude you are such a bad ass. Thank you so much for posting these.
I’d also love to see more videos talking about your gear. Other basses, amps, strings, anything.
awesome lines!!
I did for this for my GCSE “Mocks” Music performance before choosing Journey to the End of East Bay instead alongside Maxwell Murder. Thanks again for making me look cool while getting an easy A in the practical side of music.
I know it’s relatively easy for what you normally play but the Junkie Man line is such a nice one to listen to.
Love the warts-and-all honesty in this take.
Another great video, love watching you play
awesome video!!!
Nice!
So sick man brings me back to the old days
Had to order this 💿 from the local music shop that year. Still have it. Great tune!
Sick!
I'm going through some shit and this brings me joy. Matt is the reason I picked up a bass.
HELL YEAH!!!!
I like that song, and amazing bass too!!
pretty good is a understatement love all these videos would also love to see one on your live equipment set up Cheers Matt
So effortless, amazing!
This intro is amazing. The whole bass line is 🔥
Una completa locura, cuando escuche este tema por primera vez a los 14 años, sinceramente no entendia nada de lo que estaba pasando, simplemente me volo la cabeza!!! Gracias Matt por haberme hecho amar tocar el bajo ❤
"Things to come" me gustaria verte tocar, esas lineas son bellisimas!! Saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷
